I was listening to the words of the song at the very end of the show and it says something along this lines of 'my feelings have changed' or something like that. I would imagine that was on purpose. I thought it was a good show. I loved Sweets. Cam was awesome, as always. I love how she feels for her team. Loved Booth's face after the infamous conversation with Max. He was very surprised, pleased, and you could tell he was thinking it over. I think we are seeing progress in baby steps. I sure wish they would leap, though. Chrys in KS

Naturally, I meant along 'the' lines... sorry for the typo. Chrys in KS

LOVED the Max/Booth conversation in total. My favorite part of the episode. "Bones is beautiful" and Max's obvious approval of Booth as the man for Bones seemed to make him happy even if Booth couldn't admit it!

Also really liked Sweets alleviating Booth's concerns about what kind of father he is. Nice moment.

The ending was sweet. Booth's look when Brennan asked if it was a "partner thing" was lovely! Nope, it's a you-and-me thing...but OK we'll just call it a partner thing if you insist.

Nice one to hold us over until January! *sigh*

@Chrys "I think we are seeing progress in baby steps. I sure wish they would leap, though."

Aw, me too! ICAM! I need to go back and listen to the song now. I was so focused on watching for "the look" between the B's that I didn't even pay attention to the lyric. Nice find.

it was good, i loved it!! i hope it holds me over!! :)

Ohhh...
I crave for comments right now, lol.

It seems the Max/Booth conversation rises to the expectation I have on it-- and I add now the expectations on the ending and the overall ep...

Ok, keep 'em comments commin' my way!
Tonight it's a paper I'm faking to be writing, so I need the diversion.

For anyone that's interested, that song at the end of the ep was "The Sun Will Rise" by Brendan James. I have entirely too much time on my hands... :)

I really liked this episode. It was pretty good. I loved the ending of course. Their smiles were just great and how they looked at each other. I always love B&B moments but this one was great.

The scene with Booth/Max was great too. I can't believe max asked him that though....but i liked the moment...I agree with Anon....What Booth said was sweet......

It was nice to see Parker after a long time. He is so cute just like his dad...lol..I loved the way Booth looked with out his tie in the interrogation room...he looked good...idk just thought that when i saw him...

I still can't believe we have to wait till January but what can we do.....but this was a good episode since we have to wait for a while.....

I had fun with this last week, so I have to add them again. My friend and I text back and forth.

Friend: That's no conifer. Did you catch where they supposedly are?
Me: A National Forest somewhere.
F: The tree looked like a Live Oak but bark was like a sequoia. Didn't look like somewhere to look for walnuts.
M: Cough filmed in California cough cough.
F: Yea, that was my first thought. They could at least try to fake and ecosystem. Or change what the guys were looking for.

Me: (on Cam's comment that Brennan killed one person) She actually killed 2 people. And I'm a 20-something with a bad back.

(Proof that she nitpicks on things that aren't the same things I nitpick on).

F: Still don't get why she lied, if hubby doesn't care.
M: I don't know either but I hope it's a cool reason.

Me: (after Booth/Max scene): Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww
F: LOL! Btw, she's sleeping with Mr. King and Cal could get arrested for insider trading.
M: Go you. Good call. Or maybe a twist--don't ask don't tell?
F: Oh! Maybe.

F: It's her psycho killer son. (almost right--very cool).
M: Two killer kids in two weeks.

I also liked to see the progression from Booth horribly hating the idea of privileged kids/adults (S1-The Boy in the Tree/S2-The Man in the Mansion) to considering putting Parker in a private school to help him out.

I also liked Angela getting to show off her mad skillz. Another little throwback to season 1.

Hodgins was fun this episode. Is MVP going to replace KOTL for him?

Sweets was really good this episode, too. I thought his words to Booth were not only appropriate, but realistic.

catnapping said...

Oh god...those two sooooo love each other.

i wouldn't care if they never kiss in front of us again...they are so in love.

great epilogue.

catnapping said...

p.s. that little girl was evil. did you see the expression on her face...and my god - her motive for killing the nanny?

she is evil.

Kat said...

@ Amanda... LOL re:the commentary!
I felt Booth started doubting his stance on private school kids because of Brennan saying what she did and him realizing he wasn't qualified to be able to "enrich" Parker as she'd suggested. Brennan's digs about how the private school kids advantages got to him but ultimately it's obvious that advantage doesn't buy character.

How smart was Booth to play to Brennan's intellect in getting her to not fire Max by asking if she and Max would "enrich" Parker?! I love that two weeks in a row Booth has shown how well he knows her and can bring her around to his way of thinking without forcing it on her. I just adore their relationship mechanics...and we haven't even gotten to the truly good stuff yet! ;)

Kat said...

@Cupcake: Thanks for the song name and artist. Saved me some research time!

@catnap: The girl was soooo evil. I thought Tempe was going to come unglued at seeing her evil look. And no real motive nor remorse. Yikes!

I too loved the interaction between booth and max. I liked the way he just came out and said that she was beautiful to max (now only if she was over hearing :)) Also the ending was so cute. I just imagined them as happy family. I thought they left on a good note. The only thing i was disappointed in was that they didn't have any new footage for the episodes in janurary, which is my favorite part so maybe some will leak soon!

This episode was pretty perfect to me. The case was interesting, but not overstated, and the character development smoothly coincided with the science.

I only have two continuity and story nitpicks. Yes Brennan killed 2 people not 1, and the scenes where Cam tries to get Hodgins to do an ONLY WITH ZACK experiment would have fit better if it had been shown earlier on.

But the case, definitely thought it was the boy not the girl child, nice twist. She had that sociopathic child look at the end.

And I about jumped off my couch when I saw Gina Torres(Jasmine from Angel) as one of the suspects. I love her! And you could tell she and David were comfortable acting together.

At first I wanted to beat Brennan up for making Booth question if he was a good father. Especially after she had said before that he was a great dad. The woman has been giving him a hard time lately. First she thinks he's a loser, then she makes him sad because he keeps her away from her true passion and then she tells him that parents are irrelevant after a certain age and that Parker isn't getting what he needs to fully develop.

But then I realized that she was just projecting and making sure she didn't look inadequate in some way because she didn't get that after 15.

Cam and Angela are really becoming good friends and I am liking their scenes together. The whole "mad skills" high five was really cute.

I love how Max convinced Hodgins to do the experiment and Wendell joined in. I actually like Wendell. He's like Hodgins minus the sarcasm. Almost got a little teary eyed when Hodgins named himself most valuable player and not King of the Lab.

Okay Sweets was spot on in this episode when it came to Brennan's reasoning for not wanting her dad to work at the Jeffersonian. But unfortunately Brennan didn't want to admit it and at first Max didn't want to believe that Sweets could tell that much. Loved the bickering like brother and sister between Brennan and Sweets.

The scene with Booth and Max was hilarious. "Bones is beautiful" he was so serious and sincere I melted right there on the spot. SERIOUSLY THE MAN DOESN'T HAVE ONE FLAW!Then when Max says that Booth is a good man and "I want that for her." Booth didn't protest he just soaked in his words and actually looked kind of nervous that Max could read his feelings so plainly.

The end scene was beautiful. Max trusted Booth to talk to Brennan and he did and she did him a favor "a partner thing" which was totally BULL she did it because he's Booth and he asked her. And yes very much a grandfather and grandson scene with parents watching on.Adorable.

Loved the episode. Now we just have to occupy ourselves with reruns, fanfic and discussion until January 15th which is like FOREVER away. I think I am already going into withdrawals, detox is soon to follow.

Loved the scene with Max and Booth - it was funny but sweet at the same time, and had lots of hidden meaning. Like everyone else, I loved the "Bones is beautiful" line. I've been waiting for him to say something like that for ages and the way he said it was perfect - no hesitation, no ambiguity, just the right mix of seriousness and tenderness. How could anyone not melt at that?!

Also loved how Max gave his blessing of Booth (again!). Booth's reactions made the whole scene though ... he seemed touched, but a bit embarrassed and guilty that he let Max think they are more than partners.

I just could have had an hour of that one scene. Although then we would have missed out on Booth in a tie-less shirt ... that's a good look.

So, looks like no Bones till January then! Was hoping for some new scenes in the promo as well.

Louise said...

Oh! And loved that Booth had orange juice on his tie! That man needs a good woman to look after him.

colby said...

Too bad Brennan's not the kind of woman to take care of him in that way. :) I did think also that it was too cute that he had orange juice on his tie.
And...I have to echo everyone with the cuteness of the end scene...:sigh:...

So many cute moments in this episode! I'm so sad that we have to wait until 2009 for more. At least we'll get a repeat of the Santa in the Slush kiss to help tide us over!

Well said Lindsay! Spot on with my own thoughts.

What a fantastic episode. I have loved the last 3 episodes. All the scenes with Max were great. I liked the father / daughter interaction and the Booth and Max talk. “Bones is beautiful”. “You’re a good man and I want that for her”. The ending was very sweet. “Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate what you’ve got”. It was also good to see Parker again if only for a minute or so.

Booth & Brennan’s relationship is really coming together. If the episodes were shown in written order it would have really complimented the hurt Booth felt in Con-Man. Still, this was an enjoyable episode to “break” on. I thought everyone played their part really well. I look forward to reading your review Wendy.

It will be a long summer waiting for the next new Bones episode …

This episode was good. I was glad to see Max again since its been quite a while since Verdict in the Story. i think Brennan felt a little threatened by her dad because the kids liked him so much and he designed the experiment so well. we know how important it is that she is "top of her field." I also love the end where Booth and Bones both know that she would do anything for him and he would do anything for her. can't believe its 49 days to the next new bonesday.

Lindsay said...

I don't think she was necessarily jealous JDAY, I do think that it is very awkward for her to have her father in her work space since the reason she became a forensic anthropologist was because her parents disappeared and to have one of those parents in the lab is a lot to deal with. On top of that everyone is standing up for him and he is teaching kids and is really good at it...she didn't get that from him for the longest time and like Sweets said she doesn't want to get accustomed to him being there and then leave again. She is just not used to the interaction.

Lindsay said...

I meant threatened on the above post, not jealous. Sorry

Louise said...

I did feel that Brennan felt a little threatened by her dad being in the lab, but for different reasons. Her father has always been a very unstable factor in her life - the lab is where she retreated ... it's her 'safe' zone, and has been the most stable aspect of her life for a long time. I can see how the two mixing would cause her some anxiety.

I love how this season is really showing the development of B&B's relationship, as if they were a couple. They're now at the 'family' stage in their relationship ... Brennan has met and learnt about Booth's brother, and now Booth is accepting Max into his family more. There were so many hidden meanings in the final scene, but Booth's "look at my little boy, with your father" was the most telling. It was as if he was saying "look at our family, look how lucky we are".

I loved it. I think Sweets is becoming one of my favorite characters. I liked seeing Max again and hope he is going to be in more.

I loved see Gina Torres, I remember her from Firefly and Justice League (Vixen's voice).

Shep said...

Another great episode!

The case was really good and I didn't really expect the young girl to be the murderer. The way she explained the muder was quite creepy - she showed no remorse for killing him!

I haven't seen Gina Torres since Angel - her acting was really good - she still kinda creeped me out a bit!

After this how can you not love Max! The Max/Booth scene was brilliant and so sincere - 'Bones is beautiful' - eeee! and I love teh bond between Booth and Max - when he said 'I want that for her' it was clear that he meant Booth and I think Booth could see that - even if he didn't want to! The walls Booth and Brennan have put up concerning a romantic relationship are wearing away fast. The ending was sweet - Brennan and Booth are really becoming a family and I agree with Lindsay - it was very much a grandfather/grandson scene!

I loved seeing a Zack-like experiment but it would have made more sense to show this before Con Man

katjem said...

I have never watched Angel but recognised Gina Torres from Alias. She used to play Anna Espinosa.

Shep said...

Max could be a great member of the Squint Squad!

And Booth without a tie - HOT!

Bones will be the only good thing for me in January!

Anonymous said...

OK! David was looking EXTRA hot in this epi. Love when Booth isn't clean shaven! And when he took his tie off....oh ya! The best part in the episode was when he called Bones beautiful :)

pumpkin said...

All ican say is, im going to die a painfull painfull, painfull death over xmas without bones new episodes! The bone that blew is def on par with if not better than Conman! so much love right now...i rewatched the max-booth and last scene so many times!!!!

Mickey said...

Did I hear Hodgins refer to Brennan's dad as "Max Brennan"? Isn't he Max Keenan (aka Matthew Brennan)? Love that Max's old school named the science lab after him!

irininde said...

I loved this ep.
Cute, cute, cuteness. These last three have been amazing:
ConMan was kind of angsty, sad, hurt, dealing with important stuff, and plain BRILLIANT (my fav of this 4th season so far)
Oven was fun, (THE GLASSES! I will never tire of that scene, hehe), light, sweet.
And Bone was just cuteness and ADORABLE! And funny. And creepy (the girl murderer... yikes). And awesome. And Booth said "Bones is beautiful" and I jumped in my seat. And Max was funny. And Bones was totally projecting in almost every scene with the whole domestic thing.
And "Look at my son with your dad" (or something similar), and the favour, the "partner" thing (OH PLEASE! The Nile isn't only a river in Egypt!)...
But I should really stop now. Hehe, I'll leave the review to the great wendy! ;)

Amanda said...

I noticed that too, Mickey. I kind of wonder if Max is again starting a new life, this time with the name his kids have? Either that or it's a goofed line that somehow made it past Post.

Laura said...

I noticed the Max Brennan thing too - and promptly rewound the tape... then tried to read Max's name label when he was on screen, lol.

Weren't the kids saying something like 'Max K, the Science Way' (I think I might have the quote wrong) though. Hmm. Maybe it was a flub.

I loved this episode too. Waiting til January is a killer! There were some hilarious lines again - like Hodgins line about Max reminding him why he became a Scientist and the exchanges between Sweets, Brennan and Max. I must watch several more times...

Milky said...

Cute ep!

I have the obvious continuity probs, but the Max/Booth scene was great, just as the beautifully emotional last scene was. They were so acting as a family there.

I'm a little troubled by the M/B talk, though. I don't seem to be ok with Max asking Booth if he was sleeping with Bren.
Was it parental concern? Just trying to understand why they weren't?
Was he trying to get Booth to talk to Temperance, and if so, why start asking by questioning their sexual relationship? Just to make him nervous? Because Booth did finish the conversation by offering him to talk to her. Was he just trying to distract him?

Independently to that, his line of her being beautiful and Max's line of approving of him for Brennan were just touching. And definitely Booth felt Max was saying he wanted them to be together.

I wonder if there'd be more than 1% of world population who wouldn't agree.

Del said...

I think "dating" instead of "sleeping" would have been more appropriated & realistic. I expected Max to question his daughter about her love life, etc to know where/who she is. I expected meaningful/emotional scenes where Max/us would have learned a lot about Brennan.
BTW, Max killed TWO men & ordered the death of the pig farmer.....

Mom2ABnTB said...

I love reading everyone's comments. And I loved this episode as well. I melted during the Booth/Max talk...and during the last scene. *sigh*
Is it January yet???

Kate said...

Kat, I totally agree that when Booth just said "Bones is beautiful" that is was a special acknowledgement from his heart.

firefairyangel said...

The daughter's confession in the end kind of creeped me out. I actually suspected from partway through the episode that the kids did it, but I was leaning toward the boy. She showed absolutely no remorse or concern for what she did, which for me is really creepy at her age.

Otherwise, I didn't like Wendall. I've always found him kind of boring. But I felt in this case, he was just unnecessary and his lines seemed to be added in just to give him something to do.

Del said...

Maybe Brennan called it a "partner thing" because this episode should have been shown just after "Perfect pieces" where they discuss a lot about what partners do for each other.

em-jay said...

I'm looking forward to the review, Wendy!

Carolien said...

I really liked Wendell. The whole experimenting thing with Hodgins was great and it felt like they were competing with each other for King of the lab which means Hodgins is getting his groove back...

Liked the Cam/Angela banter and the High Five was brilliant!

B&M and B&B were adorable together.

loved this ep.

Lily said...

I agreed with mostly everybody but i liked the way Lindsay pointed out things. I also like to read the comments and see what you guys think too. I really liked this episode too and like everyone said i liked the B&B moments and the scene with Max/Booth. Yea when he said that about Bones was just really nice. I also think he said from his heart. I reallyyyyy can't wait till January...its too far away...

Anonymous said...

Okay, hopping in a little late, but I wanted to leave a comment to the person who said Max should have asked Booth if he and Bones were dating. The two of them spend so much time together they could date and it wouldn't be any different, and Max (being Max, who knows everything and has connections that would make the CIA writhe in envy) already knows the two of them aren't hitting the movies or going out to clubs. They hang out at one or the other's apartment or office, go to dinner and, oh yeah...check out dead bodies! Lol.

What Max really wanted to know was if they did all that because there was a sexual relationship between the two of them-kind of a hey, you're with my daughter all the time, but are you sleeping with her? I think he expected Booth to say yes, and when he didn't was like, um, hello? Why not?

I don't think his concern was for getting Booth to talk to Tempe, I think he wanted to make sure she was taken care of when he wasn't around and to secure her happiness like any father would. Booth said he'd talk to her to shut him up b/c he didn't want to get into a conversation about why he wasn't sleeping with Bones with her father. I think the whole conversation creeped him out a little-no one wants to talk about having sex with a girl's parents, even if you aren't, and Booth would like to be! Lol.

And I think the whole "Bones is beautiful" think wasn't a wishful thinking so much as an automatically defensive, "What's wrong with you?" He was sticking up for Bones even when he was trying to dodge her Dad's questions, which says worlds about Booth.

Anyway, I'm done ranting now!
