Ryan O'Neal pleads guilty

Despite maintaining his innocence from the beginning, Ryan O'Neal has plead guilty to drug charges.

Ryan O'Neal pleads guilty to drug charge

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Ryan O'Neal has pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge.

He entered the plea in a Malibu courtroom Friday morning and was ordered into an 18-month drug diversion program.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says the case will be dismissed if O'Neal successfully completes the program.

The 67-year-old, Oscar-nominated actor was arrested in September along with his son, Redmond, and was later charged with felony methamphetamine possession. Sheriff's deputies had searched the actor's home while doing a check on Redmond O'Neal, who was on probation for a previous drug conviction.

Ryan O'Neal was nominated for a best actor Academy Award for 1970's "Love Story." Redmond, 23, is his son from a relationship with Farrah Fawcett.

If he plead guilty to just put it behind him - let's hope he can do that, and stay out of trouble from now on. If he is guilty let us hope the treatment program is successful and he can move on to a fuller, clean life!

Anyone know if a drug diversion program means he'll still be able to work? Or will he be in some kind of treatment facility?

Selfishly, I miss Max, though I hope he'll get the help he needs.

Usually, drug diversion is a program where the person has to go to drug awareness classes, at least twice weekly NA meetings and have mandatory weekly drug testing. It's not inpatient and would not affect a person's ability to work.

However, it could be a problem for the studio if they can't get him insured.

oh god. i'd forgotten all about love story...

"love means never having to say you're sorry" - one of the most embarrassing quotes from my generation.

please. all you younger readers. don't watch that stupid movie...or if you do, please don't hold it against us. i'd rather be associated with shaft, or m*a*s*h, or even omega man.

I'd much rather think of O'neal in Peyton Place (the TV version)..or Paper Moon.

I do hope he comes back to Bones. I'm gonna miss Max Keenan.

lol, catnapping... IME, love means saying you're sorry over and over and over... especially if it's not your fault, but it means you can end the argument with some kind of dignity.
