The Princess and the Pear - Live Thoughts and Discussion

Some of you have already seen "The Princess and the Pear," either as fortunate Canadians or through other means. Please, do not spoil the episode before the US airing from 8-9pm eastern is over. I'm putting this up under good faith that no one will instantly jump on and give away the best parts or the ending before the episode is over for the US viewers.

Dish away in the normal fashion though!

is it done yet, is it done yet, is it done yet??

Anyone else drool like a madwoman when booth came to the door at the start of the ep in half a suit...

I dont know why but i found the buttoned up top and boxers combo sooooo sexy hehehe

Milky said...

yeah... and the way his shirt looked... don't know why, but the fact it looked recentrly pressed was quite sexy LOL

I liked the ep a lot... so many wonderful moments!

Kat said...

HEEELLLP!!! Someone tell me what happened at the end. My stupid cable provider had a misfeed and I missed the last 2 mintues.

Can't wait to talk about the phone call moment.

Kat said...

@Dani Uh, YES! to the drooling. Brennan seemed to like it too!

I'm not a huge fan of this episode. I do actually like Perotta and Sweets was not annoying in this episode. It was too quick though and hardly a concrete ending. Mediocre episode at best. Also, fight scenes with the quick cuts where you can actually see what's happening doesn't look good.

I, though, am very excited for March. I don't want to wait three weeks for ELEVEN BONES EPISODES. The preview looked fun.

Dani said...

i thought this whole episode turned up the tension another notch, Booth's really showing how much he digs Brennan, we've always known but now its getting more and more into the open...!

I cant wait till the 'lightbulb' moment when Brennan realises how he feels and how much she returns them...

Pauline said...

OMG ADORABLE. The fight scene was cheesy though. I remember the way Temperence used to kick butt and she has lost some skill. Sweets was cute in this episode too!

F.Anthropologist said...

Oh, I thought the B/B interaction and moments left much to be desired.

Anonymous said...

You know when Booth was just like "soft skin and silky black hair" who was he talking about? Was it abot Bones or was it the drugs talking?

Milky said...

@Kat: Bren actually fixes Booth's back and just when she's doing that, there's a knock at the door. Booth says it's open... It's Perotta who's bringing him home-made food.

P, at seeing B&B in what she thinks a compromising position, offers to leave. Bren, in what seemed to me like a run for her life, leaves the apartment quickly, followed immediatly by P.

Leaving Booth alone.

Silly women.

Though it was only P who had to leave.

Dani said...

Anon, was bones he was talking about, which is why Perotta said what she did after the phonecall, when Brennan said she had no idea why Booth is so protective of her...

plus the Vicodin was playing a small part...

Anyone else think his dragon's with tiny hearts comment was hilarious?!

Anonymous said...

Alright so P knows that booth feels that way towards brennan but yet she still brings food over. But i can't wait until 3 weeks. I thought it was only 2 though.

Milky said...

I think this ep made something really obvious: even though Perotta knows Booth's... let's say "interest" in Bren, she's still willing to try. She's *that* interested in Booth!

The way she reacted at Booth's "silky black hair and soft skin" (yeah, anon, I think he *was* talking about Bren... only that if he said it was because of the vicodin)? a clear indicator :)

Nano said...

I loved the dragon and tiny hearts comment! So funny! This was a very enjoyable episode. The lack of Booth kinda sucked but when he was there it was played out great! I actually diddnt think the epi would this good!

Kat said...

@Milky - Thanx SO much!

Dani said...

thats what i love about not building up expectations on episodes Nano.. the ones you dont expect to be as good usually turn out to be fantastic...
I really enjoyed the way they had booth not a full part of this ep, i think it helped to move the B&B relationship along in a cool and quirky manner...

Plus, i really enjoyed the heck out of Fisher's appearance as this weeks intern, i thought he was hilarious, especially the 'i think she might use the pear of dispair on me' comment hehehe

Did anyone else think that booth was wearing a hospital gown when he was part of that interview on the computer?!

Milky said...

You're welcome, Kat ;)

Eli said...

- Agent Perotta has a big beautiful eyes
- I like Fisher
- Hodgins has a blonde moment too
- Sweets a guy with a red lipstick
- Cam is still a boss or demoted and replaced by Brennan
- Brennan thought that everybody has a skills like her, can just swing the sword around the lab
- I'm afraid Angela will be the next Zack, less screen time and less attend the function

Anonymous said...

Um Eli whats ur point? Just curiosity?

Anonymous said...

I am going to say that he was, for sure, talking about Brennan during the "black hair" comment. He was drugged and he did say something to the extent of "if anything happens to her (something something) silky black hair, smooth skin..." :)

Dani said...

Anon, that still makes me giggle.. that whole little scene...!

Nano said...

I really hope he was talking about Brennen! It was really cute! :)

Milky said...

btw... what about Hodgins telling Ange he'd be OK with 'friendly sex'? I feel kind of bad for him. He's still so in love with her...

And I loved seing Ange on a field trip :D

sciencefan said...

Hello! The best moment of the epi was in the beginning when Booth calls Bones over just to help with his back. He says he only trusts her to touch his back and she coyly smiles saying his charm was "effective". Then she snuggle up against him with only his boxers on!!!!

Jilly said...

I really, really hope he was talking about Brennan...but even in a Vicadin state, why would he say "black" hair and not "brown" or "dark"? That one word prevented me from having TOTAL pleasure!

And do we think he knew Perotta was coming over? Do we know if she's in future episodes?

Anonymous said...

Of course he was talking about brennen...who else would it be!!!

Amanda said...

All I could think of when Booth was high and describing Brennan was "aaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww."

That said, I'm really irritated that Perotta is still going after Booth after she KNOWS what he thinks of Brennan! I mean, sure, all's fair in love and war and all that, but have a little common sense woman! Don't waste your time!

Milky said...

well... I would have expected him to say at least 'brown' hair... but I've no doubt he was talking about her. Just see P's reaction to it.

I take it to be a mistake in the script  which DB didn't correct

Anonymous said...

Brenna doesn't have black hair tho....its light brown!

I'm liking Booth in casual clothes..its HOT! I knew he would be the first to show his feelings for her.

I don't think this was the last we'll be seeing of Perotta. I also didn't get why she was bringing him food after she pretty much admitted that he's into Bones.

I loved when Sweets asked if he could call Brennan Bones. She only lets Booth call her Bones :)

They also mentioned BUFFY in this episode. Loved it :D

rachel said...

i LOVED booth answering the door in his boxers/shirt. i thought that this eppy had a weird ending though. it was kinda left open, not really even a cliff hanger, just unfinished. i was not a fan of that.

Anonymous said...

when booth said "black hair" he prob didn't think about exactly what shade brennens hair was but that it was dark... so the first dark color that pops up in your mind is black ...he's used to blonds so anything darker then that is prob black!

perotta's reaction to what booth said correlates to the reaction she gave brennen.

cat said...

It needed more Booth.

could anyone tell me where i might find the promo for the next episodes?

Anonymous said...

If u wait a bit maybe someone will post it on youtube! It'll probably be on youtube in the next few days.

Rolywa said...

i thought it was a funny episode! my mom commented to me (yes, I live with my parents) that they seem to be doing less lab stuff and more field stuff and she doesn't like that as much...it hurt my feelings! I like the comedy but some more drama would be good to sprinkle in for the end of the season.

Scout said...

I thought it was a cute episode, but the "black hair" comment still bugs me!

I loved Brennan saying "Don't call me Bones"!! :)

Anonymous said...

11 more meaning we get 26 epi this season yeayyy!!!!

Anonymous said...

did anyome catch that comment in the promo abt him telling her what making loving is like..lol

Christina :-) said...

I think I liked the preview better than the episode, lol!

But only a little. ;D

I may shut my eyes and avoid seeing Brennan make a fool of a herself watching Booth get a lap dance and making inquiries about it, hehe.

Angelator said...

I thought it was pretty funny...Angela's and Cam's facial expressions during the beginning when Brennan was filling them in on what happened was hilarious! And when Sweets and Brennan were in the car, "remember last week, when we talked about correcting?"....and Brennan's forced, "how did it feel when you won the sword?"

Overall, I enjoyed this episode. So many funny moments. I am excited for 11 episodes when we might get a more serious feel, but I think I would have been more annoyed to have to wait 3 weeks if this had been a super serious character building ep.

Sorry for the novel!

I thought this episode was good but have preferred previous weeks episodes a lot more.

Perotta doesn't appeal to me. I missed Booth & Brennan working together. I didn't really care for the case itself however I thought Fisher was the perfect intern for this episode and I enjoyed all of his scenes.

I liked Booth charming Brennan into fixing his back at the beginning of the episode. I also liked Booth telling Perotta to look after Brennan and Perotta's subsequent conversation with Brennan. I agree with Milky, even though Perotta knows how Booth "feels" about Brennan, she is still willing to take a chance on him.

I liked Hodgins and Angela working in the field. Always enjoy Hodgins and Cam's wit. Sweets in his red outfit (and the fact he probably had it in his wardrobe at home) also made me smile.

There were some great moments in this episode and I did enjoy it but not as much as some other recent episodes.

I forgot to say ... I thought it was cheeky of Sweets asking if he could call Brennan "Bones". Knew Brennan would say no but I am positive Booth would also have some objections of his own.

Sorry my posts are so long! I get carried away with typing.

Jeannie said...

Just a few random thoughts - I thought the episode worked well with the Booth-lessness (nice change of pace - don't hate me), but I was not a fan of the soft skin and silky hair comment. Too much. I'm just glad Brennan didn't seem to pick up on it.

When they looked at the apartment and talked about how somebody had really searched for that sword, all I could think about was who would make such a small cut into a couch to look for a sword that was like 1.5 meters long???? ;-) As if you could hide that kind of thing behind a couch pillow. And how could that be called "buried"? It was more or less laying on the ground outside. Weird.

I thought Sweets was cute in this episode, and I liked the return of the "Don't call me Bones" from season 1.

Also, is it just me or do the episodes seem to become shorter to others, too? I was totally surprised and checked my watch when they already revealed the killer. Felt like a lot less than an hour (43 minutes - give or take).

And whoa, 11 new episodes??? That's a long season for sure! (And a lot of reviews for you to write, Wendy. ;-))

Jeannie said...

I have one more nitpick right now - Xena was specifically mentioned by Booth to Angela and Brennan a few episodes back, and they both acted as if they knew what he was talking about. Tonight, Brennan was all "Who's Xena?" Dear writers, please simply don't bring yourselves into that kind of compromising situation. We *are* paying attention!

Dani said...

next ep looks awesome... but again, i am totally biased heheheh

Poolaw said...

There are so many great characters on this show that, while I miss attention being paid to some of them, sometimes (like Angela) I SO APPRECIATE that each character gets a chance to have fun and develop- I love Sweets!

And as far as the B/B stuff, the 'soft skin' vicoden comment and all of the B/B/P stuff was awesome- they are setting up that stuff very carefully and nicely. Especially with Booth charming Bones in the beginning. AND--Gotta love the way Booth looked at Perotta when she was all flusterd in his apt, Bones still holding onto his head- like 'uh, what are you doing??' she was probably NOT invited over.
the case could have been wrapped up better to be sure- but after circus and blowing up navy ships this was more fun, less insane kind of thing.

and yeah, perfect intern for this episode!

*Vodzu* said...

Oaaakaaay, time for my comments:D
Ok, i liked the interaction between the characters, many funny moments. The best one, as for me, was Fisher.OMG,, he was hilarious, and when he started singing -

"Well, I drug your ghost across the country
And we plotted out my death
In every city, memories would whisper
"Here is where you rest..."

Song by Bright Eyes, "The Calendar Hung Itself", btw.

I was rolling on the floor at that scene xD His interaction with Hodgins was so funny. Funny moments from drugged Booth
- "did you give her a sword?"
- "a sword?"
-"Its a knife but its only huuge"
hahah

As for the case - it didnt exist. I was saying it ealier - its not a crime sloving show any more. Im sorry but hey, the cases seem waaaay to easy to involve best FBI and Forensic team thay have, dont you think? Come on, there was nothing in that case couldnt have been done by a 2nd year student. And judging by the promo, i dont expect next episode to be any better case-wise. Sad, i always loved the case solving process, how they figured out stuff, made test and stuff. Now its enough that Fisher brings sth out of nowhere and says "thats the murder weapon", come on.

Shep said...

My favourite moments: Booth in a shirt and boxers - YUMMM! and his comment 'oh that silky black hair..and oh that soft skin..' - haha! Brennan doesn't have black hair though - but that was probably due to the Vicoden. But at that point, even I couldn't believe how incredibly oblivious Brennan was; it was expected but I was still going - 'for God's sake woman-he's in love with you!'
Booth should have a reaction to medical drugs more often - his comment about the dragons and the small hearts cracked me up! It was like Man in the Fallout Shelter again! Loved Booth's charm in the beginning too!

Still don't like Perotta. She can see that Booth has feelings for Brennan and still tries to make a move with the chili and all..

I thought they would never have a Buffy reference in Bones since David Boreanaz was actually in it! I suppose it wouldn't matter to those who haven't seen Buffy though.

I really liked Fisher in this episode - he was hilarious.

I, too noticed Brennan not getting the Xena referance - grrr! to the writers. I really want be on that writing team to make sure they get it right. Heck, they don't even have to pay me!

The sword and the fight was cool! But the murder weapon - eeeew!!

Bok Choy said...

Morning all, loving your comments about the episode so far!

Here are some of my tidbits: I, too, loved how Booth was only half-dressed (brings out the boyish vulnerability we love about him amongst everything else, eh?); how Brennan was visibly annoyed at having to work with Perotta (loved it when Angela had to remind her that she was the person who had to report their newfound facts); Fisher singing with his earphones on whilst the team was watching him; and seeing Angela out on the field...and picking up the vibes between her and Hodgins again! K, I'll leave it at that for now...

Regarding the cute "silky black hair" comment, I'm wondering whether or not Booth's medicine-induced state was picturing Brennan as Xena at the time as it's reasonable to assume that Bones just filled him in on how she had gotten into the sword fight. Course, that would then have boosted his protectiveness even more when he was talking to Perotta. Since this was also while he started to get dreamy (yes, great reminder of his hallucinations in The Man in the Fallout Shelter!) and hence, the ambiguous description of her hair?

The important thing here, of course, was that he was dreaming of her at all...and telling Perotta! And, yes, she had a lot of nerve to come over with her home-made chili. Maybe "milady" felt she had a chance to change Booth's mind since she realised Brennan's cluelessness of his deep affections (sorry, just loved the medieval character talk...no, I'm not a geek!)?!

Tis my novella for the day...can't wait till March!

cordy said...

Great comments so far. Now here are my 2 cents.

Booth was so hot with his boxers in the beginning. Usually I don't like men wearing shirts and nothing below (don't know if this sounds right, what I mean is men should always undress top down, never ever use the bottom-up method)

And I liked the way he charmed Brennan into fixing his back. And much more I liked the fact that she let him charm her into it. Of course we all already knew his charming-smile works on her as well as any other women, if not better.

Fisher was just perfect for this episode. I think I would get bored very soon by his character if he were a regular cast member, bis in this special episode he fit in perfectly.

Also loved Sweets and his red lips *gg*
Of course Brennan turned him down "Don't call me Bones", but does anyone else think, he had the hots for her, just a little, after the sword-fighting scene?

Perotta really bothered me, I mean seriously is she really that needy to make a pass on Booth even though she knew firts hand that he is in love with another woman.

Booth comment about her "black" hair also bugged me. Granted, he was on pain-killers and men usually are a bit color-blind, but nontheless...

But after all, I really much enjoyed this epi and that even though or just because I didn't expect it to be a memorable episode.

Don't Call Me Bones! said...

Question: Why was this episode so Booth-less? Did David Boreanaz need some time off? Just curious.

Next question: In the promo for this episode...there was a scene where Bones and BOOTH were walking into a dark room...I think his gun was drawn...anyone know where that scene went? Did it even belong with this episode?

"Don't Call Me Bones!" Man, I've missed that, and I loved hearing it last night!

I loved all the Booth/Bones stuff, for sure...I love her reaction when he asks if she wanted more (in the shirt and boxers scene!!)...and she tells him what he's already done has been effective...ha!

"Silky black hair"...oh, Booth was totally talking about Brennan! He was drugged, so I took that as the reason for him mis-speaking!

Wendy said...

DB had to have extra time to prepare for directing The Bones that Foam + acting in it.

jenny said...

@Don't Call Me Bones: the scene you're talking about is from The Skull in the Sculpture,I don't know why they used it on the promo, probably to add an air of suspense in it..

I really liked the epi and i agree with most of the comments about the first and the final scene, both really cute and the B/B/P interaction on the phone was really funny. I too thought that it was kind of weird that Perotta still wanted to visit Booth WITH her home-made chili after hearing him talking about Brennan that way, but maybe she thought she could give it a try when she realized that Brennan doesn't seem to have a clue about his affection.
I loved the Hodgins-Angela interaction both on the field and in the lab(we hadn't seen that for quite a while) and Sweets and Brennan seem to team up very well(Cordy, I think you are right, maybe he had the hots for her, just a little, remember his "you are hot" comment on The Man in the Outhouse?)Oh, and Fisher was absolutely perfect for the episode!
But i have to disagree with some of you about two things:
1)i didn't mind the fact that booth was not in the field with Brennan that much-he was constantly present throughout the episode and it was really intresting for me to see how she reacted-adjusted to the whole situation e.g auction scene when they finally get the sword she seems she's about to hug Perotta because that's what she'd do if she were there with booth, then realizes who's sitting beside her and hesitates...i really loved that tiny part although it might not seem important..
2)i liked the case, the whole medieval "aura", the peculiar murder weapon,fisher-brennan interaction in the lab and most of all the fact that, maybe because booth wasn't there to drag her out at the field that much, brennan was more a scientist in this epi:i really like her when she's focused on her science(as she said in The Passenger in the Oven, she's a scienist first),finding and explaining important clues for the case. Oh, and i really love it when she speaks so formally-reasonably-scientifically, mostly to hide her true feelings(and this epi had a lot of that)!
sorry for the huge post and any stupid language mistakes!!can't wait for the next epi!!

Just an obsevation about the last episode. Emily D is a beautiful woman who is a fine actress. But this show would be nothing if it was not for David Boreanaz. Without him in most scenes this show was subpar.
Us Bones fans were led to believe that Brennan would show extreme jealousy when it came to Booths interaction with Perotta. She is quit oblivious to that. It looks to me that the writers are trying to hook her up with that annoying Sweets. This is absurd. All the producers and actors better hope the David B stays with this show for the duration because he is not paid enough.

btw,can someone please explain the whole Vicodin thing?maybe it's because i don't live in the US and i don't know this drugs commercial name but how can a painkiller or antiinflammatory drug make you confuse hair colour and think that furniture appears friendly(i think that's what brennan said in the scene with ange and cam)? or is it something more powerful like morphine or something?
just curious :-)

Kili Climbers said...

Yeah, I liked this episode! Bones is back. Needs more DB of course....and I look forward to Agent Perotta's exit....:-) But I liked this episode alot. Sweets did a good job being the "walking lie detector". Yeah for Bones and a great episode!

Jenny - I have never taken Vicodin but it is suppose to be a strong pain killer. The side effects were probably exaggerated for TV....but it made perfect sense how they used it....

Anonymous said...

the best part about sweets getting flustered by how 'xena' brennan was with the sword (oh he had the hots all right) was that his 'can I call you bones?' seemed to be the last straw in people trying to take booth's place- bones practically ran out of that scene and into... booths apartment.

also, just because it hasn't been mentioned yet, "I like working with Booth, I'm nice to him" or whatever she said made me smile.

and, for everyone who DOESN'T know where this relationship is going, I think all this slow build-up must be very exciting.

I must say I agree that I miss moer attention being paid to the cases and not the people. Bones really needs to be, like, two hours long.

Ninirific - It was only a little reference but Fisher said 'Okay,I admit: I'm a geek! I love it all: Star Trek, Star Wars, Buffy, Xena...', - somewhere at the beginning.

I loved the episode. I mean from the bringing back of Booth getting the "best effects/side effects" of meds, i mean him tripping in the Xmas episode the first season is still bringing me a chuckle ( and explains him getting the hair color wrong of Bones) to Sweets almost getting killed dressed as a Redshirt to Bones Swordplay.. Not to mention the return of one of my favorite interns.. Who i think Cam should hire as her own and just pop up from time to time!

The acting was top of the line.. i am so watching this again later before i head out just catch the ending where Perotta gives up, Bones gets up and goes too and poor Booth is without a clue ( due to meds not to denile like Bones ) Perotta was a glutton for punishment however but the end i think made her throw in the towel.

JB

Anonymous said...

I think that Perotta tried to use Bone's cluelessness about Booth's feelings for her to her advantage. She's a little underhanded and sneaky. No way was she expecting Bones to be at the apartment. The fact that they had her bring food that she had made (like when Bones cooked mac and cheese for Booth) disturbed me. What little jealousy we saw from Bones earlier on (or was it just annoyance) was lost when she passively walked out after welcoming Perotta to stay.

Poor Booth! Do you think he's moved yet? :)

Cece

Anonymous said...

I have watched this episode 3 times already but I think Bones leaves Booths apartment at the end because she thinks there is something going on between Perotta and Booth and she is upset by that but as a friend doesn't want to get in the way, and thats why she leaves. Booth at the start was extreamly cute and we need more - lots more - Booth. This was a good episode that i was not looking forward too but it exceeded my expectations. great episode for Sweets and Fisher and I enjoyed the interactions between Jack and Angela. We need someone for Cam to bounce off she needs more for such a character than just the interns and on occassion Hodgins.

jenny said...

anon, that's probably why we get to know all that background information about Cam in one of the upcoming episodes.I won't say anything more in case you haven't read the spoilers but the writers seem to have realised that(i totally agree with you, by the way)and since it's only a 43-min show they can't deal with ALL of them at the same time so they have to do it one step -person- at a time...

also about the whole "it needed more booth" that a few of you have said, i can understand and partially share these feelings but i read this nice comment on a forum which expressed my feelings in words, better than i would have done it myself,so I'm copying it here (stating again that IT IS NOT MINE):
"Despite the lack of Booth, I actually thought that this episode did an excellent job at showing how the connection between Booth and Brennan extended further than the fact that they are almost always together. Even though Booth was in his apartment for the entire episode, they talked on the phone several times, and the episode made it pretty clear that Brennan was always on Booth's mind, while he was always on hers."

doesn't that seem to be a considerable step towards the "more than just partners" direction?their relationship is now clearly much more than two people working together in order to solve murders... :-)

sorry for the huge post(again)!!!

Bok Choy said...

I was just about to rewatch the episode again, but just had to zone in for the latest comments.

Jenny, thanks for posting that comment you found on the forum, I wholeheartedly agree. I would have preferred to have seen more of Booth as well (e.g., anyone else think that interrogation scene with Perotta and Sweets just wasn't the same without either B or B?).

But...it really was a fresh perspective to see our favourite couple still interacting together constantly whilst they were apart. I mean, those 3-way conference call scenes were more than evident/symbolic of that. The calls should have screamed at Perotta about the fact that one can't really talk to/see Booth without Brennan being present somehow (and vice versa)...which she discovers the hard way with that fun ending scene.

And I agree with Anonymous and Anonymous about Brennan's reaction there. It was definitely one where her emotions were overwhelmingly threatening and she didn't know what to do. Normally, she'd rely on Booth or Angela to help her reason out her emotional quandaries, but as Booth was part of this particular one whilst being out of it at the same time (hehe, how's that for confusion?!), the flight vs fight adrenaline was obviously secreting copiously so she fled instead.

And with Sweets having just intruded into her personal bubble at the lab, what's the poor girl to do? (Flash thought: I hope Sweets tries calling her 'Bones' again when Booth is present and not drugged up...wonder how he'd react to Sweets using his special name on his Bones?)

Sorry for yet another long post, off to watch the ep again now!

I've enjoyed this episode though I think the quality of the show has diminished a bit. To make this show "cute", the writers has made Brennan so naive some times and not consistent. I think she knows what geeks mean since it is actually an English word and not a reference into pop culture nor TV characters.

I think it will be awesome if Sweet has a crush on Brennan. Yes, Perotta needs to go.

Dani said...

Ive been suprised reading through some responses that people are worried about Sweets trying to hook up with Brennan, Sweets doesnt think of Brennan that way, but he does want to be just like Booth, whom he idolises...

We already know that he thinks Brennan is hot from Man in the Outhouse, but he's been pushing B&B together and gets more excited then anyone over them potentially getting together

Dani, you are absolutely right, this hook up suspicion is really off,i think,no way this is happening. i just think that Sweets idolises her as a female "archetype" as much as he idolises booth as a male "archetype".he obviously wants them to end up together more than anyone else(except for angela, perhaps) but i suspect he would really like to be with a woman LIKE Brennan-not HER specifically...remember the connection between Daisy and Brennan, how Daisy really wanted to be like Brennan as a scientist and as a woman in general.
pinut,I don't know about the whole geek-greek confusion, can't judge objectively since i'm not american and i don't know how common the word is but it really made me laugh probably because i'm greek :-D (reminded me of the gyros reference in the other episode Fisher was in,Crank in the Shaft).but i do agree that the writers have compromised consistency over "cuteness"(does that word actually exist?)a little bit-not only with Brennan but also with Booth:i can understand he might not get the scientific stuff that much, the "ligamen" and "vertebrae" and all,but "incapacitated"?even i know what this word means and english is a foreign language to me! come on guys, booth isn't silly,he was supposed to be a counterbalance to the squints and a way of explaining the scientific stuff to the audience through him, not a 5-year-old!
i really should stop commenting,i always get too into it!sorry!!

@ Jenny and Kili re: Vicodin... Actually, the effect of Vicodin wasn't exaggerated at all. I've never taken it myself but I've been around people while they were on it. I'm sure it affects different people in different ways, but I've seen Vicodin make people even more wacked out than Booth was. Everything he said in the episode was completely believable to me. The stuff messes with your head.

The story line for this show was nothing to brag about. The only thing that I could get out of this episode was that Brennan has no romantic feeling for Booth. If she did she would have been furious that Perotta was trying to hit on Booth. (Like millions of women would have done). The writers are making her out to be an unfeeling robot. When Sully was involved with Bones in S2 it was so obvious the Booth was jealous. I guess that only men show jealousy.

*Vodzu* said...

Yep, cuz we have alpha male tendencies :P

katjem said...

I think Sully was worth getting jealous over. The writers did a great job of matching a partner for Brennan and an "opponent" for Booth. Booth had every right to feel insecure.

Perotta, on the other hand, is no match for Brennan. I don't think Booth would fall for someone like her. If I was Brennan I would be annoyed of Perotta not jealous.

Dani said...

oh my gosh folks.. how can you say that Brennan's not jealous of Perotta, she makes no secret of the fact that she doesnt like her...

'i dont want to work with anyone but Booth' etc.. etc...

Plus dont forget that theyve switched the roles around between B&B, making Booth all about feelings like a woman and making Brennan all logical, like a man...

She's not acting like a robot, just like many males would in that same situation, remain clueless till someone points it out in a hugely obvious way!

Amanda E said...

To the poster Katjem.
You got to be kidding. Are you trying to compare Sully with Booth.
While Sully is a nice looking man there is NO comparsion. DB/Booth is one the most handsome men on the planet. As in most discussions most of the posters side with Brennan. While Brennan is pretty there many better looking women. Most of you love it when Booth is jealous. Sorry it would never happen in real life.

i think its wonderful that these two characters are SO awesome, SO well developed and have SO MUCH chemistry that they can both power forth an amazing show AND have a romanitc storyline that is drawn out, clumsy, sweet, and truthful. We as viewers are really going to feel like they've earned it, that it is time, and that it's the right thing when the two of them finally get together. I think. I mean, as a former X Files fan I really mourned the horribly clumsy way that show dealt with getting the main characters together.

jenny said...

@Amanda E:I'm afraid I totally disagree with you...No doubt DB/Booth is really handsome but sometimes when you are in a relationship you are looking for more than America's Next Top Model-Male Edition.I don't mean it in an offensive way for DB/Booth,he obviously has more than looks, but Sully was also really sweet AND,the way the writers portayed him,he was a man who was also very intelligent, who never ceased to surprise her with his skills, who really cared about her feelings and needs and most of all loved her and WAS NOT AFRAID TO SHOW IT!I think that in a Booth-less world Brennan would definitely stay with him and sail off with him to the Caribbean!I myself would very much like to be with someone like him-although I would definitinely not say no to DB/Booth! :-D
I think Booth had every reasion to be jealous and he was probably thinking "Dear God I only let her alone in one case because of this stupid "evaluation"and look what happened!"...!
As for ED/Brennan, she definitely is one of the most beautiful women there are but also there is something else which is really important about her and it's called CLASS-and as far as this is concerned, she outdoes(is this the right word?)any other woman that has ever been around in Booth's life and that's dead obvious in comparison to Perotta, too, especially in the final scene where we can see them together, compare their reactions etc...She definitely is jealous and is not that super-confident to think there's nothing to be afraid of, but I think that Perotta doesn't stand a chance..thank God she realised it herself!

Franny B said...

To the previous poster. How can you say Brennan has class when she will say anything at any time with no regards to other people feelings. That is not CLASS. For a brilliant woman she is emotionally stupid. Go back to the Con Man episode and revisit the scene when Booth asks her if she thinks he is a loser. She could not answer him. A classy person would have reassured him that he was not a loser. The only person in this partnership that has class is BOOTH. As far as her showing any jeaoulsy I did not see it.

jenny said...

Dear Franny B,perhaps you have a point but what you are describing is Being Polite,I think...On the other hand,Brennan has always been Honest,I think that's the best word to describe what you're saying. And emotionally, she's just someone who has learned to hide her feelings, because she has experienced, first hand, what it means, sometimes,to let your emotions guide your life(I don't know how to express this better,I'm not English, but I think you know what I mean). About the scene in Con Man,reassuring Booth is not something a classy person would have done,in my opinion, but what someone who wants to "caress your ears"(an expression we use in my country about people who manage their way out of uncomfortable situations by flattering other people) would do-and she wasn't really given the chance/time to respond(phone rings-Booth urges her out of the room) plus she made up with a really Classy way at the end of the epi.
I wholeheartedly agree that Booth also has class(a different "shade" of class, perhaps) and maybe I didn't make myself clear in the previous comment but I really love and respect this character. I just don't think there was nothing for him to be jealous of,as Amanda E said.
And Brennan definitely was jealous-and to see that perhaps you have to forget how you and I would react and judge by what feels normal for her to do,given her character and personality.
I'm writting these with a good heart(I hope you did too) and thank you for helping me see things from a different point of view :-)
[wendy, you really should make me pay a fine or sth for these huge comments!! :-)]

Just an observation. Has anybody noticed in the most recent intervews between David and Emily how emotionally close they really are in real life. Watch the body language and how they always lean into each other. We all know David is married with an adorable son but sometimes you just cant help how you feel about a another person. Watch how Emily lights up when discussing their off screen relationship. After working 80 hour weeks sometime they meet on weekends to go over the next weeks script. I have never heard of this before. Either they love their jobs or is it because they want to be together all the time. I might be wrong but they are soulmates. This has nothing to do with the Princess discussion but I thought I would throw it out there.

em-jay said...

I know what you are saying genevieve, but I honestly hope not--that is one thing I appreciate about DB is that he openly values his family. I love that they work well together and love watching their chemistry in Bones, but I would lose a great deal of respect for him if it interfered with his wife and son.

Dani said...

as much as the two of them love to work together etc... they both value their relationships with their own partners, i see it less as sexual then i see it as two people who love each other like family, which is why i think emily has such a hard time with intimate scenes with david.

I agree with Dani and Em-jay. David clearly loves his wife and son very much. DB and ED both have fantastic personalities and their closeness is the result of working together all these years, which has obviously led to a great friendship. Their bond looks more familial than romantic. They are also both very dedicated actors,so I don't find it odd that they meet up to go over their scripts out of working hours: it's that extra work that creates the great B/B on-screen chemistry!

I just watched the Princess and the Pear again and I noticed Emily D had either an engagement or wedding ring on her right ring finger. I know her sister Zooey was recently engaged but there is no public knowledge that Emily was either engaged or married. If this is true why is kept so secret? Thats something that any girl would want to shout out to the world about it. I know I would be so proud of it.

Dani said...

that ring you see Anon, is Brennan's mothers ring that her dad gave her a couple of seasons ago, you arent the first person to mention her wearing it on her right ring finger...

BTW, wedding fingers are normally the left ring finger, at least in the states, uk and australia and surrounds

one thing that can be said about how much chemistry and affection the two main characters/actors have is that clearly some of it must come from getting along so well in real life but it also speaks to the fact that they must feel very connected to their characters and love the characters they play very much. its a very particular thing that inevitably happens in this line of work, so to speak, that people become emotionally invested, so this is not to say that the actors themsleves are soulmates, but their genuine affection and enthusiasm makes for characters who really and truley seem to be.

katjem said...

I don't think I was making myself clear in previous post and certainly didn't mean to start anything or offend anyone.

I meant that Sully was a nice character and someone who I could see Brennan getting together with if Booth was not around. I never meant a comparison between Sully and Booth or the actors who portray them. Jenny expressed what I meant about Sully in her comment just below mine very well (and I thank you for that).

As for Brennan & Perotta - I don't think Perotta's character is as well written as Sully. I don't think Perotta is someone Booth would become involved with if Brennan was not in the picture. Booth and Perotta are not a good match.

Agreed, Brennan has shown jealously of Perotta. I am not denying that. I was saying, if I was Brennan, I would be annoyed that Perotta has come into the picture and is trying to step on "her terriority".

Hope this clears things up.

katjem said...

I just wanted to add ... Booth told Brennan at the end of "Fire" that she had nothing to worry about in regards to Perotta. Speaking from a purely personal position, if my partner told me I had nothing to worry about, I wouldn't worry. There is no point in getting jealous when there is nothing to get jealous about. That doesn't mean you can't dislike a situation or get annoyed, angry, frustrated, etc.

Ok. I will stop now. I am really looking forward to the next episode.

Katherine said...

I agree with The poster genevieve. They are SOULMATES in real life. When they take photos with their respective mates they never look as happy as when they take pictures together. In the beginning of the show their photos were for promotion.
There is no need to promote the show anymore it promotes itself. If you see Emily D in the few photos we see of her and her current boyfriend who is very unattractive there is no spark. There has been previous comments that DB/ED are like family. She must like her family because this guy she is seeing looks like he could be her cousin.

Shep said...

Regardless of what he looks like, the point is Emily is seeing him, in which case she is probably very happy with him. And David always shows how much he loves his wife.

Of course they're going to have developed a great rapport from the chemistry between their characters and from working together for many years. In the promo photos, they are supposed to be B&B (even if Ed's outfits don't look very Brennan-ish), so of course they're going to look good together!

Nikki said...

Thank you em-jay, Dani and Shep. You know it's really disappointing when things like this come about. Although, this isn't the only show this type of stuff happens in. Any long time David fan knows he values his family first and that he's been with Jaime for almost 8 years and loves her and their son, deeply. He ALWAYS talks about her and their son. Also, we know Emily has been seeing her current boyfriend for some time, now. And, she adores him. He's an awesome guy who writes for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

David and Emily are friends. That's it. When David filmed BtVS and Angel, he and his co-stars were ALL close. This is including the crew. It was a big, huge family. That's what happens when you work so many hours together with people. It's like us with our jobs. To suspect anything else is going on between them, is ridiculous. Please have respect for David, Emily and their loved ones. I mean, this is an episode discussion thread for crying out loud lol

Katherine said...

For Nikki. How do you know that Emily D ADORES her boyfriend like you say. Do you have personal knowledge of this. Just because she goes out with him nobody except maybe you really knows how she really feels. Didnt you ever go out with somebody just because He/She was nice but that thats as far as it went. You must talk to Emily everyday on the phone to be privy to her feelings.

Wendy said...

Chill out on the private lives of the co-stars. What we do know is that David and Emily are both in committed relationships and they are very friendly with each other. It is not fair to them or their families/loved ones to make assumptions beyond that. Let's not turn this blog into a gossip blog, okay? :)

I know there are plenty of places out there where David/Emily discussions run rampant and all I can say to that is - To Each His Own. This is not the place for that.

I appreciate those who defend the choices of the stars (marriage, boyfriend, etc) as they have been presented by the stars themselves. We should respect those choices and know that, even if something else is going on behind the scenes it really is not our business.

jenny said...

Wendy-thank you for "putting right what has been rent assunder"(if I'm spelling this properly)[quoting Dr.Wyatt's words!]One of the things I really like about your blog (apart from the fact that it is so well-informed and insightful and all) is that it has never been "yellowish" and never chosen the path of gossip and indiscretion.I am a huge fan of Bones and I truly respect Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz as actors and, from the little I know about them,as persons and the only thing I feel I want to and have the right to talk about is this show and what I like or don't like about it. I don't think that the fact that we are fans of the show and its leading actors gives us the right to criticize their private lifes and relationships and people out there should remember that. I really like this blog and I would feel really sorry if I had to stop following it because of "conversations" like those above.

katjem-I'm glad we share the same POV on Sully..I never shared the feelings of dislike that other fans felt about him at S2-maybe because I love the character of Tempe and felt like she deserved to live something like this..at least before truly and completely breaking down all the "walls" around her for Booth!!! ;-)

Dani said...

thank you Wendy for putting a kibosh on the horrid turn this conversation was taking, if people want to talk trash like that about the stars relationships then take it elsewhere, this blog always has been and i am certain, always will be for the discussion about the show...

my two cents!

genevieve said...

When I posted my views on the strong emotional connection that David and Emily have I never once implied that they were lovers only close friends. If it came out that way I am truly sorry that I have offended anybody. I only stated from a few interviews that I have read from both David and Emily they have stated they both know each others personal secrets. Speaking only for myself there are one or two people in all my life that who I would tell my most intimate secrets. Because my saying that they were soulmates doesnt mean that they were invoved in a sexual relationship. I agree David always talks fondly of his wife and like he should. Again I am sorry that I caused a Firestorm over just an opinion.

Don't worry about it genevieve. It's all good :)

I am a HUGE Bones fan. I am a little nervous writing this because this is the first time that I have ever expressd myself on the Blog. I am writing this with a good heart. No offense meant to anybody. While we all agree that Booth is an incredibly handsome man it is rude to say that Perotta is not good enough for him. This is the same as the comment made about Emilys real life boyfriend being unattractive. To me I think Booth and Perotta would be a good match because they have similar jobs and seem to have some spark.

Wendy said...

Hi Louise - happy to see a new poster! Don't be afraid to express yourself. As long as you are friendly, willing to debate, and love Bones you've found the right place!

Connie said...

To Jenny. Let me preface this by saying that I really enjoy reading all peoples views on this site. It reflects differences of opinion. It should never be mean spirtied. I strongly disagree with you concerning Brennans hesitation in answering Booth when the loser comment came up.
You stated that she did not have time because the phone rang etc etc.
She really thought he was a loser. My god here was a guy who left a hospital bed to save her from the mob connected FBI agent who was going to kill her. Also when she was buried alive. Lastly when he took a bullet for her in the Wannabe episode. She only changed her mind because of the intervention(Cam and Sweets) and her confrontation with with Jared in the bar.She even admitted that That Jared made her beleive that he was a loser. If I was Booth not only would I never speak to her ever again(Her words), I would never never work with her ever. Booth needs somebody who will cherish him for the one in the million guy that he is. To me Brennan is an emotional pygmy.
