American Idol continues to trample on our Bones

As a couple of comments have posted...Bones is once again being pre-empted next week for American Idol (I paused about 30 seconds before typing those two words trying to think of an appropriate, but clean adjective, to describe my feelings for the monster that is AI and what keeps happening to Bones because of the show, but could think of nothing.

Fox schedule for next week

Guess we should've known that 11 weeks straight of new episodes was just way too good to be true when it comes to FOX. -__-

ARGHHH!!!!
but isn't that why we have two back-to-back episodes in april?
but still,it's hard enough having to wait all week. :D

It's because the Pres will be holding a live press conference Tues night. I respect the office of the Presidency but that doesn't mean I have to like Bones getting preempted once again. I guess the economy is more important than a tv show but still! Grrr! lol

This is what the Fox Exec said in the Boneyard:

"Yes, it is because of President Obama's press conference on Tuesday 3/24. Because American Idol cannot air on Tuesday (it is 2 hours and can't be split up because there is a vote at the end, and we have to show all 10 before anybody can vote) - Idol has to move to Wednesday. Lie To Me is also preempted and the fans of that show are not going to like it either.

The results show will go in the Bones time slot. Idol is the least flexible of any of our shows because it's got a built in pattern of eliminations, 2 shows a week and it's live so there's a cast and crew and venue to reschedule. Hell's Kitchen is also set up so you can't skip an episode, and if we preempt it next week we have to double up in a later week - preempting Bones.

I'll admit when I heard about this press conference next week I thought, the Bones and Lie To Me fans are going to hate this. There is not perfect solution for all our shows and I'm sorry this is the way it lays out."

I feel like my heart just got ripped out. If that's even logical.

It's not because of the President; it's because of Fox. Did you know they're playing TWO reruns of House? one on Monday, and one after the press conference? Why couldn't they have played it then?

In addition to the whole nation being upset about out economy, they'll have about 10 million people even angrier about Bones.

Sophie said...

That's IT, rage blackout time. So this means we get two double weeks in the future, then, instead of the one, right? Because we had the one when Fox was dangling those eleven weeks in front of us, and now that we've been robbed to the pr machine that is AI... I'm expecting two. In fact, I want a whole week, a new Bones each night.

Someone's going to be getting a STERNLY written email.

*grumble**grumble*

I'm unbelievably mad right now. Why can't they preempt House (which I like too) once in a while? GRRRR!

Aly said...

The press conference may run over one hour. By having a rerun in the lineup they can "join the program already in process" if they need to. In this case I don't think moving the show to a completely different time slot for just one week is necessary. Yeah it sucks but we've had worse before. Anticipation makes the heart grow stronger right? Trying to put a positive spin on things here...

Dani said...

HEY.. i just thought of something, perhaps they will air two weeks with two back to back episodes?!

Ruthe said...

Hi found ur blog via a #bones search on twitter & having fun reading ur posts. I may have missed something but why does AI affect our bones airing? I thought they moved Bones to Thursday???

Danielle said...

Grrrr. AI and Fox scheduling annoy me so much! I wonder if this means we will get a second back-to-back week, or whether they will extend the season by a week. Is the date for the season finale an absolute?

Louise said...

No! They promised! I blame the President ... isn't this the second time one of his press conferences has caused this?

Christina :-) said...

Let's see, they've ALREADY aired 2 episodes in one night.

And there's ALREADY two episodes in one week coming up. It's getting ridiculous.

And @Ruthe up there:

American Idol affects us because when something takes it's place i.e. Obama's press conference on Tuesday, Fox ALWAYS airs American Idol on Thursday in out time slot, because they ALWAYS have to have a results show.

Anonymous said...

Soooo Fox...

ggjunkie33 said...

Okay, Fox, if you don't want to seem like the boy who cried wolf, next time don't make promises you're not sure you can keep.

I mean, I understand the President's conference is important, but why can't they preempt AI or another show instead? Why do they have to keep taking Bones away from us? :(

As a side note, I don't remember ever having a year before this where the schedules for ALL of my shows (not just Fox, CBS is doing some weird stuff too) have been so screwy and jumpy. What is with the TV schedules this year?!?!

Christina :-) said...

Agreed, CBS is jerking NCIS around; it seems like bad luck is following me everywhere I go.

cordy said...

So much for Fox specially advertising 11 episodes in a row. *grr* I don't know why it always has to be Bones thats been pre-empted. Defenitley not fair.

Dani said...

yet every bones fan out there should be super proud of themselves... for all the jerking around the network has done, the numbers have continued to increase each week...

*pats all the US loyal viewers on the back!*

*Vodzu* said...

that just sucks, really, it seems like they do preempting Bons on purpose - cant believe they have no other shows to move or even put Bones on ealier or later that day :>

P.S. did Canada got Bones on last night or is it now Thursday for every1?

reallyannoyed said...

Words cannot describe it. Ugh.

And without being alarmist, which is undoubtedly what I'm going to be by posting this - is it really true that a Fox exec posted on the official forum to say one of the episodes might be bounced to next season? I can't find anything on that site, but read elsewhere someone had said that.

It's like when you know someone, who knows someone, whose sister works with the second cousin of (insert famous name).

Surely they cannot do that. Surely. All the episodes coming up look great.

Wendy said...

Let's hope that never makes it past "alarmist gossip." :)

po'ed said...

re: reallyannoyed: That is just speculation from someone on the Boneyard. That's the place where a lot of weirdos flock (e.g. they keep discussing a return of Sully time and time again...*eye roll* even tough no one who has anything to do w/ the show ever spoiled sth. like that...).
I would think that it is more likely that FOX will do another double epi week or that they show back-to-back episodes in one week. Might be wishful thinking but I really think that is the more likely scenario... We should all send e-mails to askfox and ask them for a schedule-update!

reallyannoyed said...

I really hope that too, Wendy and po'ed.

Because really, that would suck so much.

Right, I'm stepping away from the computer now...

So here we are again :(

N2AgentBooth said...

I sent this email to ask fox;

duh

Thanks for selling the rerun rights for Bones to TNT. So between TNT and Hulu I don't have to watch Fox at all and won't, But I do wish you would sell it to a station that will appreciate people with an IQ above 60 who want to watch TV.

wow. that is truly annoying.
But if they air all the episodes before May & viewership stays high enough that Bones gets renewed, it isn't really a crisis. just frustrating.

Louise said...

Honestly, I'm not actually that mad at Fox. At least from the statement that Christina posted, they seem a bit apologetic, or at least aware.

I can understand them having to keep AI on next week - if I were an (objective) tv exec I'd much rather move an already-filmed episode than have the headache of trying to move a live show with public votes and a studio audience.

I just wish it wasn't Bones that suffers. Why couldn't the press conference be on Monday?!

Louise said...

Vodzu ... I read that Global/Fox have moved Bones to Thursdays as well. Not sure how official that is, but it makes sense in terms of ratings.

I have to admit, I did watch it online last week, and didn't even watch my DVRd official version (in my defense, I was away from Thursday, and didn't want to miss it!)

Everyone who hasn't should send an E-mail to: http://www.fox.com/community/askfox/ and voice your angry and justified objections.

This is just moronic by this point.

This so sucks.. i mean that was the episode with my old friend from HS and it was airing on her Bday too.. Why could they move Bones to Monday for next week.. i mean 2 hours of house repeats? Fox programmers will need to double up again or push everything back.. This stinks!

Shep said...

Not again!!!
Now I'm just depressed.

WHY BONES???? Why? Why? Whyyyy?

I hate FOX. This sucks. Of every frigging show they have, the choose screw with ours!

Anonymous said...

@ CCB

We'll see all the episodes, but one (or more) could be pushed back to *next* season. It doesn't sound like FOX is willing to push the finale date back. This late in the season...it'll be a very tight squeeze to get all the episodes fit in before May 14th...

http://www.fox.com/community/askfox/

Wendy said...

That is complete conjecture at this point. If we've seen anything, it's that Fox can easily (and willingly) shuffle schedules at will. Even if the finale date is set (and we don't know for sure that can't change), there are 2 months between now and then.

Anonymous said...

The way that FOX always prempts this show is a real bad joke. This is after they were bragging that it was going to be on for 11 straight weeks.I was once an avid HOUSE watcher when it was a great show. It is now terrible. Peter Liquori and other Fox executives must have a love affair with that paticular show. I am sure they moved it to Monday so that American Idol wouldnt interfere with it. All of us Bones fans should be very worried about the lack of respect this show gets from the nitwits that run the Fox Entertainment depatment.

Bones Fan, I deleted your comment but don't feel bad. Just don't post spoilers in non-spoiler posts please. There are many, many blog readers who avoid even the tiniest spoiler, but there are plenty of spoiler posts around here where you can chat about it! :)

Bones Fan said...

Wendy I dont feel bad. I did not think that what I said was a spoiler. It is only my frustation on how this all playing out.

Christina :-) said...

Not to be an alarmist but...

I was amidst all the heat last night at the Boneyard, and the Fox exec said exactly this:

"One way or another you will see all the episodes because they are all being produced. Either we'll find a slot for it or run it next season."

Not good at all.

Wendy said...

GRR :(

Anonymous said...

so basically it sounds like the fox execs don't have a plan yet. they may fit all the bones episodes in this year or they may not... i have my fingers crossed.
and i will curse them if they bump it to next year.

Wendy said...

We've seen how little it makes sense when they bump episodes out of order in the same season, much less bumping an episode into a completely different season after the 'big' finale and premier episodes which always make big changes...

Anonymous said...

Korbi is reporting that Fox are considering bumping the Finale episode into Season 5.

I hope she's talking out of her ass again. Because, surely, they CANNOT do that after all the publicity they've generated. There will be a riot.

alexandra said...

The only good news is that we will have our 5th season...

N2agentBooth said...

I found this on the boneyard it made me feel better
"In case you don't know Robert Bianco writes TV reviews and features for USA Today. During Bianco's TV Chat today he was asked a question about 'Bones'.

Decatur, IL: Why do you think Fox treats Bones the way it does...they promised 11 uninterrupted episodes and we get one then pre-empted this week. Now there are rumors that we won't see the season "finale" til next season. Why do they do this to the shows loyal fans?
Robert Bianco: In part because you are such loyal fans. Fox has come to count on "Bones" as a reliable pitch hitter - the kind of show it can move to other time slots and put on hiatus without disrupting its ratings performance. It can be annoying for fans, but that resilience has also turned the show into a very valuable commodity for Fox. So at least you don't have to worry about cancellation at the moment, which is the worst network treatment of all"
