Where are their masks? Have they learned NOTHING??

Re: Sweets teaching Brennan facial expressions. He makes a comment regarding Booth being a natural at reading expressions.

In last week's Lie to Me Lightman points out that naturals have someone MAKE them a natural--you learn to read expressions to, say, read when an abusive person is about to lose it on you.

That seems to fit what we know of Booth, do you think?

Gigi said...

Ummm.... definitely gross... I don't usually get grossed out by this show but yucky...

Dani said...

hahaha i like Nigel Murray's response "im secreting adrenaline"

i thought it was highly amusing...!

Dani said...

oh did anyone notice Hodgins missing eyebrows after the fire?!

I only picked it up cause he mentioned it in one of the interviews about David directing...

I liked the episode i didn't think it was the best but i was ready for anything after 3 weeks of nothing.

Sophie said...

I loved the ending!

AAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Amanda said...

My favorite part of the ending is that Booth got into the cab. That cracked me up.

I was thrilled to see Angela come in not only to save the day, but to give Brennan a CLUE that she so desperately needed. :)

I missed the eyebrow incident, so I'll have to look closer on hulu.

LOL on the lapdance scene. Booth looked so cute!!!

Anonymous said...

favorite line: "Did we get our $60 worth?" Brennan was so serious - it was freakin' hilarious!

The last scene was great, too - very married couple- type fight!

Nano said...

Hodgins eyebrows looked disgusting! But overall i really liked the case in this episode.

It was a good case tonight which we have been lacking! I thought it was a solid, cute episode! Yay for 11 weeks!!!!

I don't usually comment on the state of the bodies (it takes a lot to gross me out) but this one was brilliant! I mean, the little boy that lives inside (this adult woman) was just delighted with the gooeyness and squishiness of it all. Major props to the uh, props department. :P

Also, Hodgins' King of the Lab was phenomenally followed by N-M's comment on the monarchy and inbreeding. I loved that. Oh, and Cam and her wine. lol. All in all, a truly funny ep.

Ok, that's it for now. *goes back to packing*

i thought it was great!! i dont know if i would have liked it as much if it were shown with consecutive episodes...but i thought it was a great episode for the bringing back/ really long episode streak of Bones!!
Loved the ending..definitly a married couple moment!!! :)

I really liked this episode. The case was fairly light but solid and engaging, the science was interesting and weird enough to be attention grabbing. I liked that we saw Brennan in the lab while Booth was out in the field, even if she didn't contribute terribly much to the lab side of this case.

One of the things I love most about Bones is the interaction between the characters when there isn't any big drama going on, and I thought that this was a great episode for that. Everyone seemed to be working together and responding to each other well. The relationships were very fluid and comfortable, down to the little things (like the Brennan, Booth and Cam dinner scene).

This was a good episode for Cam in general; I loved her handling of Mr. Nigel-Murray (turning him from a charicature to a character in one scene - still not my favourite intern, though) and her frustration with the constant alarms and lack of progress. Both of these things seemed very true to character, and a nice demonstration of why she's the boss - and does a great job at it too.

I also found Hodgin's "King of the Lab" scene very touching. I like that he's now moved to this point, but it was bittersweet that there was no-one there for him to share the moment with. Hodgins has really been awesome all season.

The main thing I wasn't too keen on was Brennan's lesson from Sweets. I was fine with her asking him for help with this, but the scene was too stupid. We know she's a fairly good actress so she could get this direct stuff; it's only troubling for her when people are hiding what they really mean. Plus, the interrogation could have been less awful but still believably bad. But I can forgive this because it led to the truly wonderful scene with Angela - one of the best warm fuzzy moments for a long time. I liked the end scene with Booth (and I like that they're now mixing up the tag scenes a bit) - but the Brennan/Angela one was really excellent.

This episode also had just the right amount of Sweets. I like Sweets, and think he's an interesting character and has had some great scenes, but sometimes it seems like he's just there to hang out.

Does it bother anyone that Bones used to have a sports car in season one, that her publishers gave her? Seems to me like a continuity issue. I was bothered by the lack of protective gear, too. I wondered if Cam's testiness might also be related to the episode when Epps poisoned her because she broke protocol.

Carrie said...

My grammar was poor. Epps did not poison her because she broke protocol, but the poisoning did happen as a result. Sorry!

Eh, I didn't care much for this episode. The science was really shoddy and I don't think the attempts to further develop the character of Fisher were interesting. (Of course, I don't like Fisher in general.) The last scene was fun on one hand (the back-and-forth bickering) but kind of lame on the other ("Women are bad drivers" jokes? Seriously?). Oh well, at least I won't have to wait 3 weeks for another shot at Bonesy goodness.

Anonymous said...

Edit to above: Nigel-Murray, not Fisher. Still dislike the guy though.

what is with bones and booth talking about sex all the time? and not like in the episode where booth has that awesome speech about 'making love' in the diner but it came up twice, plus that crazy lap dance scene.

this episode was really fun, sweet. good balance of using the characters.

I also think it's cool that Brennan was trying to be empathetic... its uncomfortable but its sweet, too. We need to see her weak side more, not just the hidden sadness but the weakness. its awesome.

and i just hate interns with gimmicks. sorry to the actor who is fine but you can only take the fun facts gimmick as far as it got in this episode which is not far. so annoying.

Shep said...

That was probably one of the ickiest bodies ever! Loved it when it caught fire! But I was annoyed they weren't wearing protective gear too. And I've been wondering, aren't they supposed to wear masks and head covering anyway, especially out where a corpse has been found? You see forensic guys on the news dressed head to toe in white overalls, even shoes covered, with masks on. They probably don't do that for television purposes - you wouldn't be able to see characters' expressions and they'd spend a lot of time in the suits. Still bugs me though.

David did a fantastic job directing this! The music in the end scene (which was hilarious and completely married couple-like) was very David-ish. The car was awesome - I loved Booth's interrogation of Buddy! However, I was bothered by the fact that Brennan used to have a sports car in season 1 as well.

I thought the scene in the strip-club would be longer - we already saw the whole thing in the spoiler clips. But I did like Brennan's 'did we get our $60 worth yet?' Also, was that a hint of jealousy from Brennan when Booth 'raarr'-ed back at the saleswoman at Jungle Jim's!

My favourite part was Brennan's attempts to empathise with people. It could have been done better, but I love the idea and the Angela/Brennan scene that followed was vital.

Hodgin's 'King of the Lab' scene was very good too - very sweet.

Does anybody recognized the song they played during the last scene? I could only get a few words during the BB-bickering. But have a feeling that the lyrics were significant and emphasized the underlying symbolism of that scene. It seemed to me that while on the one side playful the words were fraught with meaning.

Jeannie said...

Cordy, the song was Nikki Costa - Stuck to you. Hope that helps.

nigel is by far the worst intern and needs to be kicked off quickly

thanks jeannie and sai

very nice song, I think I have to go get it from itunes

I LOVED the commercial in the middle with the bones outtakes/bloopers :)

and I HATE mr. nigel-murray. sorry to those of you who like him, but I can't stand him. not one bit.

Anonymous said...

well u know it takes a lot for me to completely go ewwww...on the decomposing bodies....but this one did...the foam oozing out was gross...yukk...
n i was perturbed as to y they werent wearing protective gear as well...
on the episode..well it wasnt the best but it wasnt the worst too...directed well though...but it bothered me y brennan wasnt handling the body given the complexity of the case...instead leaving it all for nigel murray(who i thought was taken to his limits...with his constant ramblings)...
although i have to say the scene b/w angela and brennan was one of the best in the episode...
brennan doesnt lack empathy..how about "Boy in the bush" or "The girl with a curl"..or "stargazer"...what she isnt good at is reading people and social skills...
and i though brennan already acknowledged booths skills in "wannabe in the weeds"
dint say she undestood her limitations and admired his expertise in certain areas??? then y this sudden need to be better than him???
loved Cam and Hodgins in this episode...i gotta say Hodgins has been brilliant this entire season

Anonymous said...

Overall, I did not like this episode much...there were a couple of amusing moments (and my adoration of TJ Thyne went up a notch) but generally I thought the episode was weak. The way they are setting things up in terms of the finale spoilers etc. is getting too obvious for me...if the show continues along this route, I can see myself losing interest pretty fast.

I thought it was a good, solid, case-of-the-week episode. I was missing Angela, and so I was cheering when she appeared to save the day--and have a great little chat with Brennan

ninirific said...

I loved this episode. David did a great job.

There was a great mixture of funny, sweet, and sympathy for the case.

The body was right up there in the nasty scale! Sooo gross, but cool!

Bones was def jealous at the whole rawr thing. Hehe.

I squeed out loud when Angela came in to save the day. She voiced what the fans have been saying. Why don't they ever ask her to do the impossible?? Methinks she rocks. Hard.

I also loved the Angela/Brennan scene. I had missed those a lot. Their quirky interactions with a lot of information going on in between the cool forensic work. Very nice scene.

I loved Hodgins all around in this epi. As well as Cam and I liked Nigel-Murray a bit more. His line "I'm secreting adrenaline" was gold.

Ending scene was perfect. Very double entendre!!!

The lap dance scene was hilarious. I loved how uncomfortable Booth was.

Did everyone catch when the dancer said "your boyfriend" and neither Bones or Booth corrected her???

Squee!!

Here's to 10 more weeks!!!

Mr. Nigel Murray is annoying. I found him mildy amusing when they first started doing the whole intern thing, but I am so over his rambling facts I can hardly stand it.

Overall I was disappointed by this episode. When it started I really thought the case would be interesting, but it wasn't. Pretty boring. There seemed a lack of enthusiasm by everyone involved...the bones are dissolving...yes I know...what should we do...I don't know...darn I was hoping you would. The biological alarms go off and everyone gets locked in whatever room they are in only to be released 5 seconds later because.......

In the past when the alarms go off people freak out, put on masks, lock everything down...in this episode everything was sooooooo laid back, it was almost like they didn't really care. Plus if Angela hadn't have popped for a couple minutes the case never would have been solved. Not that it really mattered because I don't think the case was all that important to anyone.

In previous episodes Bones would have been in the lab trying to help, but she was off with Booth doing nothing or getting lessons from Sweets about reading body language. Yes the evidence is dissolving...but I have to go to this strip club to observe Booth.

The strip club scene was very funny though.

Did anyone else feel like they were watching a car add??? First when they go to the dealership and they start rambling off information about how you can fit so many people comfortably in booths vehicle and how great it is...and then he audi. Yes we get it it's a very nice car. And how was the car a surprise to Brennan at the end of the episode...did they take separate vehicles to dinner??? I would have thought not. An how is it she can drive her Mercedes, but not and audi...that makes no sense.

I thought the lunch scene with Cam was odd...Although her drinking the wine in frustration was funny it made no sense and just seemed plunked in the middle of the episode for no real reason.

I know that they are working toward Booth and Bones getting together, but I hope they don't take away the quiet touching moments they had by injecting sex talk into every conversation they have.

I do want them to get together, but I am soooo worried about how they are going to handle it. I love this show (despite my disgruntled comment) and I really don't want it to go downhill.

cordy said...

Although I enjoyed the episode for the main part I have to agree about Brennans lack of interest.
Just remember her "I'm a scientist first"-comment in Passenger in the Oven. I would expect her to be extremely intrigued and inquisitive about the foaming bones, as was shown in the beginning when she peered over Cams shoulder. But then she went with Booth to interrogate and question several people and it seems she totally forgot about this curiosity. Suddenly even a meeting with Sweets was much more imortant (although this scene totally cracked me up)

ninirific said...

Cordy, Sweets' confused face made me LOL. Hard.

Totally loved the episode. David did an excellen job. And dang he looked hot in the bar! Take it for what it is, a fun episode. Just enjoy the show and chillout

Major Kudos to David. He did a smooth job as both actor and director. And all done looking smokin'! Fab episode, a favorite of mine!

Lauren said...

Not such a fan of this episode. Definitely not my least favorite, but I didn't think it was that great overall. It did have some good moments, I really liked the Hodgins/Nigel-Murray scenes, and Cam, and the Angela/Brennan scene, but other than that I didn't like much.

One issue I have with the whole Brennan-can't-interrogate thing is the fact that she's interrogated before and done okay. Intern in the Incinerator anyone? Sure she's not, overall, a very good interrogator and she misses the nuances that imply information she'd only get if it was spoken aloud, but she's hasn't been nearly as awful in the past as they made her out to be here.

Anonymous said...

I have been waiting 4 Yrs for not so much sex but for just ONE episode that shows extreme jealousy on Brennans part. I didnt see with the episode with Perotta and I assumed it was going to be in last nights show when Booth was getting the Lap dance. There was none shown. Yet in every show that she has had a boyfriend Booth was always shown to be jealous. The writers are making her so unfeeling. My girlfriends and I always watch this show together. There are ten of us. We are all losing interest very rapidly.

Linda said...

I think this episode was really good! Loved how cocky Brennan was when she though she could do exactly the things Booth could.. And then when she admitted he was better than here on somethings, it was just great! A really good moment for those two!

And of course the "fighting" in the end.. Priceless :D!

Anonymous said...

I thought the episode was funny but definitely not one of the best. What bothers me is Booth hanging up on Brennan on the phone and also leaving her at the intersection. I am also bother by the fact that Brennan did not help with the body. What is she if not a scientist? I don't know if he is overworked, but DB looked much older toward the end at the bar scenes.

Anonymous said...

i would also love to see bones crzy jealous. we need perotta back so she can work a case with booth while bones is stuck in the lab the whole episode without booth.

Jen said...

I liked the episode. But I did wonder why bones did not appear more worried about the disolving evidence. Maybe now that she got a reminder that she is not the best interrigator she will go back to her lab a little more.

Sophie said...

I don't mean to be the bringer of bad news on this one, but I think that open jealousy on Brennan's part is ever going to happen. For starters, it's not her style. She's a character that was intended to be portrayed as openly emotional (except in cases where she's devastated and starts to cry... and that's kind of rare these days). I've seen the theory a couple of times that she would find the idea of being jealous toward Booth's relationships irrational. HOWEVER, I don't think that doesn't mean she *isn't* jealous, she's just not going to play it that way. If she were, she'd show it in a way such as... oh, I don't know, getting annoyed with Booth over the fact that he's with someone and didn't bother to tell her, giving him a look when he 'rarrrs', getting impatient when he tells her to go outside and wait, or showing open annoyance with having to spend time with another female who has expressed interest. She's not obvious, but trust me, it's there.

In terms of the case, I think sometimes it's hard to remember that Bones is a story first, and a representation of science second. Personally, I think shows like Forensic Files do wonders for science first. In this case, they had to make a story. Yeah, Brennan didn't pay the kind of attention to the case that most people would have hoped, but in terms of story it was better. For the purposes of the case, we needed the multiple alarms and a certain amount of time for the case to be solved... because on Bones it's not in these "quasi-filler" episodes that the cases end early, and usually, the conclusion of who did it comes right after the science is finished. So if Brennan wasn't there to solve the case quickly because of plot, what exactly would she have contributed to the plot of confusion as to what the problem was that Hodgins, Cam, and NM couldn't? Nothing, they wanted to do something in particular with her character in this episode, which I think is a good idea. Or at least, better than having her stand there and saying, "Soo... what do you guys think it is?"

As for the lack of empathy... well, there is a difference between lacking and being completely devoid. I've got my theories as to why this is a plot device we keep revisiting... :)

Sophie said...

Oh crap, I meant she wasn't meant to be openly emotional. Not that she is.

Anonymous said...

Obviously the cases are filler-esque and a way of tying the show episode to episode and characters together. To be completely honest I rarely actually care how the cases turns out I am more interested in character development and their interactions with each other.

The problem I had was Brennan always cares about the cases and it just didn't appear like she did in this episode. If they would have been developing her character in a worthwhile way It wouldn't have bothered me as much, but they decided to go in a direction they have gone many, many, many times before. We all already know she isn't the people person and can't read them as well as Booth...shes already admitted this on numerous occasions. Maybe they do have a reason for bringing this up over and over and over again, but it's almost like they're beating a dead horse at this point.

Nona said...

i think there just too much goodness to deal with in this show! hodgins and angela are always so brilliant that i could watch an entire episode of just those two. cam has proven herself to be a pretty interesting woman but the show doesnt even have time to delve into her life (yet), we've just begun to round out sweet's character, and zach's absence is so amazingly felt that all interns, whether they're chill or totally infuriating (nigel-murray), feel like a waste of time. if bones was always doing science she wouldn't get out into the field, if the show spent too much time on their romance there would be no case and vice versa. Too much of a good thing is usually the root of my problems with any episode.

and i agree that it has always been that bones is both more oblivious and subtle with her interest in booth, (though it could never ever be denied) and it will probably stay that way which is awesome because we can look forward to her 'aha'! moment... however it does feel pretty silly that booth isn't getting any, ever- even if he digs bones its like, how is that possible??

Sabrina D said...

Nona, I strongly agree with you on the Booth not getting any comment. How could this be? This charactar is incredibly handsome and charming. In 4 Yrs we have seen him with only three women. Two of these women were from previous relationships. Never with somebody new. When we do see him there are only harmless kisses. When Brennan is involved with another man you see some torrid sex scenes especially with SULLY. Writers even the playing field.

Anonymous said...

To the above poster. You are right about the lack of a love life for Seeley Booth. He has not had a romantic interest since Season 2. Thats almost 2 Yrs. Come on get real.

jenny said...

Maybe there have been things, just not importat enough to show or share .We all know how reluctant Booth has always been when it comes to talking about his personal life. Remember in The man in the outhouse at the ending scene with Sweets when they talk about sharing information about their personal/sex lives Brennan accuses him of being "secretive"-and when she says "I assume you are sexually active" he replies "You do fine"...
And of course I'm sure Perotta wished for more and maybe he would have gone for it too had this happened a few months ago, but these days he seems to have eyes only for *his* Bones... :-D

Anonymous said...

Booths romantic interest is Bones. Did you see some of the looks he gave Bones and Sully when they were together. It was pretty obvious then. Booth does the whole relationship thing for love and he's in love with Bones so there wouldn't be anyone else. The writers have made it pretty obvious that other women want him...it seems like if there is a woman in an episode they're hitting on Booth, but he doesn't reciprocate, which makes sense for how they have painted him as a character so far.

Anonymous said...

Anon,

Why does it always have to be the same thing? It is always Booth is IN LOVE with Bones and he wouldnt look at another woman. Just one episode we would like to see Brennan show some truly romantic interest in Booth. I know people say that is not her style but she sure showed it when she went GAGA over Sully. She only now and always will consider Booth as her friend. Men and women who are always together cant only be friends.

Anonymous said...

Hi everyone, just watched the episode again after reading the previous comments. I love the way booth has to explain to bones why he roared back at the saleswoman. I also loved the end scene when she said that driving the car would be no fun on her own. We all know these two spend time together but they are starting to spend all their time together. the case for me was almost non existant as bones was just not interested she wants to be more like booth, this in itself show how much she loves him as we all take an interest in the things people we love like and want to take on some of the qualities that attract us to them. I dont like Nigel-Murray he is just annoying and if I never see him again it will be too soon. Hodgins was excellent and please give us more of this Hodgins angela and Cam were brilliant as usual Bring back Zach he never killed anyone and more caroline starting to get withdrawals from the humour she provides. I really really need to stop typing I am Writing a report for work and got distracted while taking a break I guess another all nighter

Melissa said...

I am not the hugest fan of Nigel-Murray, but what I love about him is that he makes Cam and Hodgins HILARIOUS. Though I wish Zach would just bloody come back and I am NOT a fan of the rotating intern game, I love Cam and Hodgin's interaction with all of them.
My favourite is, and always will be Wendell. such a CUTIE PIE!
Awesome episode - FANTASTIC job by David.
