Extreme Spoiler Chat: The End in the Beginning

Here is place to concentrate all the heavy spoiler talk (ie the major stuff from the sides, that most fans do NOT read) for The End in the Beginning. Feel free to post links in the comments, but I will keep the post free of them.

The point of this post is to keep the really heavy spoilers away from those who don't want to read them, not increase the spoiler focus here. Have fun!

Although I do read the sides, I'm kinda hoping they won't release them for the finale otherwise I won't be able to resist reading them!

CupcakeBean said...

I agree, Shep! I don't usually read the sides, but I'm really afraid I won't be able to resist the temptation (I already caved and read the "Critic" sides)!

On another note, I'm really wondering about the title of the finale! It makes me worry a little bit... Not good when I'm trying to resist spoiling myself for the finale!

Shep said...

I hope this is a serious eppy, in keeping with the impression of certain doom given by the title.

Not that I want there to be doom.

the end IN the beginning

Shep said...

Oh yeah, the End in the Beginning. Makes it seem a little less horrible now.

Wendy said...

Thanks. I swear I tried to take extra care to write the correct title. Blogging fail!

Shep said...

I would've done that too. I saw the words 'end' and 'beginning', and my brain filled the rest in, assuming the worst.

Wendy said...

It seems MORE horrible to me - the other way speaks of transition. This speaks of a definitive end and makes me wonder just what's ending :P

Anonymous said...

I read the title as they'll start the eppy at the end (perhaps in bed) and then start at the beginning to show how they got there.

Shep said...

I took End of the Beginning to mean something B/B related starting, then ending horribly (yeah, I know, paranoid)

Usually the titles refer to the case so End in the Beginning seemed to refer to the death. But of course it could refer to many other things.

Anonymous said...

the link isn't working for me! i'm from Spain, is that relevant? some of your american links doesn't work here...do you have any other source i can look into? thanks! :D

Anonymous said...

i am a little bit opimistic sbout t ;) maybe yes, sadly we'll get the end of something but maybe a beggining of something better? like Brennan is ready to give up a part of her career and start something different with the baby. still - i try to think about 'journey ends, lovers meet' (or similar) what Angela said to Dr Gordon :D back in season 2. It can mean a lot, the way a see it, cause getting B/B together definitely will end and will begin A LOT.

Amber said...

The title is intriguing...is it ominous, or is it hopeful? I'm going with the hopeful route. It could simply mean the end of a chapter in the relationship between Booth and Brennan. By the end of the finale, the "just partners" stage of their relationship will have ended after they become lovers. Whether or not they stay lovers will remain to be seen next season, but regardless, the experience will have changed them, as they can never really be "just partners" again.

Shep said...

Yeah, I hope it's the end of their 'just partners' relationship and them crossing over that 'line'.

I hope the Zack issue is resolved in this episode too. It's been bugging me.

I'm so excited for the finale!

Anonymous said...

It's the whole alternative reality vibe the description of the episode has that makes me the most nervous. Then I think about what Tamara Taylor said about it and why HH is a font of information about the whole in bed thing...then I start to feel a little sick and worry that my favorite show has lost its way. Sigh.

gilliAHHn said...

it sounds like somethiong dies when it's just starting....like a baby or a newly wed-couple...that kind of thing....but thats pretty morbid :P

catnapping said...

Did I see Ryan O'neal listed in the credits?

I'm so excited about the season finale, I can barely stand it. And it's weeks and weeks away. I doubt I'll get any sleep Bones Eve.

I dont think they will release the sides.. although it might be a nice way to work folks up into a lather about the final ep...

HH said that Booth and Brennan would sleep together then spend the ep resolving the aftermath of it.. perhaps thats the reason behind the title...

Dani said...

hey was just reading on another blog and a comment from Tamara Taylor made me wonder if they've already filmed the finale...

she said "And it was nice to HAVE him back". about Zach...

Milky said...

I don't think it's filmed. As far as I know, they just read the script.

But I guess they start practicing (or something like that) the ep as soon as they have the 1st version, so Eric might have already been on the set-- even if not for filming yet.

gilliAHHn said...

dani, i see what you mean. it could maybe be the end of something that could have started, but really didn't

Nina said...

what we know from all the interviews and stuff about the last episode is everything will be 'resolved' having to do with their sleeping together (from HH) as well as the fact that the sleeping together has to do with the baby and the health crisis (from DB). So I remain very skeptical that their sleeping together is a simple 'aha-we're in love! lets jump in bed!'thing.

so to add to the skeptic paranoia is an episode title that is really serious! and not having anything to do with a thing, in a place...

Anonymous said...

someone please talk me out of my crazy worry that, because the episode description says that in a new 'storytelling' twist the characters are all taking on other roles... that booth and brennan are in bed... as other people??its makes no sense but neither does the episode description...

Angela said...

Oh I don't like the this title af all! it sounds like last season's "The pain in the heart"... really, they are geniuses in creating teasing titles! In excited and in the same time terrified about the finale. I mean, i've waited for years for BB to get together but I want them to do it right, not just having sex and stop! yeah, I know, i'm a romance lover ;-) We just have to wait a month and hope!

Gigi said...

It could refer to soooo many possibilities but I have to doubt if it is the end of the series. How funny would it be to see Brenan preggers? I mean seriously I thought Angela would have a tiny human before anyone else! Whomever said that it probably starts with them in bed (the end) and ends with how they got there is the most likely interpretation of the title. But then again... this IS Bones...

luscious said...

Hi bones fans I have a theory on the title but I think it is way off I think that the end is the end of Bones wanting a child in the beginning of her relationship with booth because she will be getting the unconditional love that she craves and thinks only a baby could provide however as already pointed out it usually has something to do with the case.

Wendy said...

I like your theory :) Can't wait to find out what it truly does refer to.

lily said...

I CANT WAIT!!!!! it will be kinda funny to see bones pregnant though:-) lol i mean like booth and bones... parents together? i dont know though.. maybe theyare just teasing us and it might be in a dream or something. just a theory. if bones has a baby angela i think will want a baby like same time as bones. she was the one who said she wanted kids while all along bones said she didnt. o well still cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gigi said...

Ok so I was thinking about this... and I am wondering if this baby thing will truly stick. Especially with her revelation about her experience in foster care (up to this point she has said nothing other then she knows what it is like to be in the system) that she will instead adopt a young child out of foster care to save them from what she couldn't save herself from.

Dani said...

i dont necessarily think we have to worry about Brennan getting preggers just yet... would really crimp what they could do crime solving wise...

Gigi said...

That is one of the reasons I don't think she will be pregnant... unless she became pregnant in real life then they would probably work it into the story somehow... hmmm she was wearing a flowy top last episode.... JK!

Anonymous said...

After seeing the episode stills i have came to the conclusion that the sex scene is part of 'work' to make it look more like they are the married couple they are supposed to be. I did not want to put this post with the episode stills incase it ruined things for some fans.

Groovycathers said...

Hi, first time poster here, great blog.

I read Hart Hanson saying that the love scene is *REAL* and NOT a hallucination/dream sequence. He said the implications will have a huge impact on S5 i.e. either Bones is pregnant and/or they are finally a couple.

If they do become a couple, people shouldn't worry. I think they have learned the lessons from Moonlighting 20 years ago (that's depressing) - the writers made some bad errors and I think the Bones writing team will avoid the same mistakes - I want soppy AND chemistry! It can work.

Stephanie said...

I think they could definitely make Booth and Brennan a couple and pull it off. Their bickering about all the different issues like religion and stuff isn't going to end just because they're romantically involved. Heck, if anything, that new relationship status might increase it. Their bickering is often more than just flirty banter, unlike some TV couples, so I think it could work.

I like the theory luscious presented, too. I thought I might be more on board with this baby storyline by the time May actually rolled around, but nope. I still don't like it, haha. I'm excited to see everyone like Zack and Max back, but I gotta say, the alternate reality thing, while it sounds awesome, kinda makes me nervous, too. I just hope it doesn't end up being really silly and out of place.

luscious said...

I have had a horrible thought about this episode. could caroline be the victim if max and zack are suspects surely not please dont let this come true. Its just she is not in any of the episode stills. OMG

N2seeleyBooth said...

There is a short article by emily on buddy tv I don't know how to make a link

whitewalledhome said...

okay so this is how i see it working out. bones and booth sleep together in real life and all... then when the team starts working on the case each person takes a role. its like one of those things where they act out the crime to explain it. they are obviously acting out the parts of all the suspects to get a better idea of "who dunnit". as for the title... i really think that i reffering more to the end of the season and the beginning of b&b as a thing. im really looking forward to it.

Anonymous said...

the episode will be a hallucination during Booth's surgery . . . the end of the beginning refers to a quote by Winston Churchill talking about the beginning of the end of the terror of the Nazi's.

Cassanadra said...

There was a poster on TV.com that mentioned that in this episode, Booth may wake up from his injury that he had in Wannabe in the Weeds. At first, I scoffed, thinking that it would be ridiculous (and too much like fanfiction) to say that Booth had been dreaming this whole season, but the more I think about it, the more possible that reality becomes. We know Hart knows people hated last year's finale, and if that episode was a part of Booth's post-gunshot dreamland, then Zach really wouldn't be an apprentice, so he'd be back on the show. It would also explain, as said poster remarked, why Gormogon would be able to make an appearance in S5 (of course, there are other explanations for that, too).

So, honestly, I don't know what to expect. I just thought that person's theory was pretty interesting.

I'm pretty sold that the Booth/Brennan hook-up will amount to little in the long run, but that's just me being a skeptic.

Anonymous said...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eazgezS8ozE

I can totally buy most of it as a part of Booth's dream sequence (coming out of surgery), but there is something else that has caught my attention.
Having now seen the preview, there is something about the hook up scene that looks familiar. I'm not sure if it is the curly hair or the straps of that black dress, but Bones looks like Roxie (from Girl in the Sand).
There isn't a chance that this is a flashback to something that maybe-already-kinda-happened, is there? Hope not.

And the punch that Booth lands is definitely Jared. Wonder if that is a reaction to the triangle thing ED mentioned.

Eeek - I can't wait!

Anonymous said...

Wow! Those 2 previous comments have set my mind into overdrive. Both scenarios seem possible. Re the flashback to something that's already happened - it's possible and you're right, Anon, she does look like Roxie in the clip. Very interesting and well spotted! Maybe it's a way for the writers to give us what we want without committing to BB being in a relationship. I mean, if they got together way back in S2 land and haven't yet resolved their relationship, this won't really impact on S5 - essentially, we're back where we started...UST abounds. I do think the entire night-club case will turn out to be Booth's drug-induced dream but, this won't mean that the sex didn't happen and maybe that's what HH meant when said it wouldn't be a dream. Perhaps he meant that only that part would be real, the rest will be a fun way of concluding the season without it unduly influencing the direction of S5? As regards to it all being a coma-induced dream, again by Booth, following his shooting near the end of S3 - this also makes sense, and would explain why Zack's there. But, it won't explain why the new interns are there, because they didn't show up until S4 and so Booth would have no knowledge of them... Food for thought, people!

It's definitely a major twist, whether it turns out good or bad depends on what they do next season.

reporting in from Canada...found the episode completely lacking...perhaps it is the danger of hyping it so much...almost inevitably a disappointment.
I know there will be lots of people who enjoy it so please don't freak out for my thoughts on this...but for me, it was just really bad. I feel completely uninspired to tune in next season...and I think the ending is a sad excuse of a 'cliffhanger'...a cheap tactic to draw fans back after a really poor effort at a season finale. For a season that showed glimpses of real brilliance, this final episode was a massive letdown and does not do justice to the series. As for HH's comments about this episode being a "love letter" to the fans...not sure who he addressed that letter to, but this fan is not feeling the love!

millie said...

any other canadians agree/disagree?

Julia said...

I would agree to a point. I think I would have enjoyed this episode more if I had no expectations going in. All the hype was distracting and a misrepresentation of what the episode was about. I think maybe on repeated viewing I'll be able to appreciate it for what it is. Was the ending gimmicky? Hell, yes, but call me a sucker, I want to find out what happens.

Anonymous said...

wow. i didnt think i could be more nervous, and now all these negative reviews... its like i cant do anything until i see this episode.

Anonymous said...

does anyone know if its been put online yet? i dont have time to watch it air tomorrow or friday and cant stand waiting that long?

Bay said...

A 'love letter' to the fans?? Perhaps. It did seem like HH got some inspiration from fanfictions with what happened to Booth.

Gimmicky? As Sweets would say. TOTALLY.

Emily and David's fans would be glad to see the interaction between the actors but will be devastated about the lack of interaction/closure between B/B.

WARNING SPOILER STARTS..

Many people predicted that it would either be a hallucination like how they ended House MD)or an Alternate Universe.

And it was unclear whether the first 42 minutes narrated by Hodgkin's were from Booth's or Brennan's POV, as the former was having a weird dream and the latter writing her story.

(I'm more for Brennan's story cos of the revelation at the last 10 secs that Booth couldn't recognise her. The narration and what she typed were kinda different too.)

But at least it is clear that Brennan is pretty certain about her feelings for Booth. To take up the burden of their relationship... and fly.

Bay said...

Yes it has been put up online. I downloaded the eppy from this link.

hi bones fans just watched the final episode really disapointed and one I wont bother wasting my time watching over. spent too long in dreamland definately a cheat so much for no dream sequence. If that episode was a love letter then I think bones is dumped.

What?
What was HH thinking? While it was entertaining seeing the nightclub owning Mr B and his wife Bren play house because they look like two characters we all know, it was in no way what this fan wanted.
I was hoping for Special agent Seeley Booth and Dr Temperance Brennan to take their partnership to another level, instead I got pwned by some lame half-assed creative season ender.
:(

Anonymous said...

So what is the best way to sent hate mail to HH? He said he would take responsibility for fans not liking the finale, then boy is he in for it!

Anonymous said...

In a way this episode paves the way for the whole B/B relationship to start all over from the beginning.

I agree the episode was from Brennan's perspective, she finally realises she does care for Booth in a more than 'partner thing' way. The question next season is will she actually try to do something about it, when Booth seems to be sufferring from temporary amensia. Sort of paves the way for a Jared love triangle as well, next season, if Booth doesn't snap out of his amnesia relatively quickly the B/B boat might just take a little longer as in Season 7 to actually take flight

Anonymous said...

Ugh!!! I loved and hated this episode in very unequal measure.

The plus points being: it was nice to see the characters taking on different roles and the mystery itself was half way decent (Wendall was so funny!) I didn't mind so much that almost the entire episode was either a comma-induced dream or the imagining of a new novel (I'm plumping for the latter being the case)- but we had been promised MORE by HH.

This episode should have been a stand alone and would have worked fine as maybe the penultimate of the series, but as the season finale, it sucked.

As Motley Crue kept playing, I was clock-watching thinking...get these guys off the screen, cause there's like 4 minutes to wrap this story up and also have reality intrude so we can have a clue as to where season 5 is headed! When we finally get back to the real Brennan and Booth, there was something like a minute and a half left of the show and so not only was the actual ending a complete let down but it felt rushed. I accept that Brennan's thoughts about the 'burden of love' etc can lead us to surmise that she knows she's in love with Booth AND this is progress, but having Booth devoid of memory at the moment this is revealed just comes across as lazy writing. It's just so contrived and as a loyal viewer, I hoped for more from the writers. There were so many ways they could have had Brennan acknowledge to herself that she's in love with Booth without it dispelling the tension next season and yet the writers opted for a cheesy cliffhanger.

Also, as a final point...even though the bedroom scene was erm...nice and all it really fell flat in my opinion because it wasn't real. I'll take a couple of REAL LIFE meaningful glances between those two over that scene any day.

I'm done. That's it. I will spend the summer looking for another tv show to obsess about. If this is Hart's love letter to the fans, he must really dislike us. Bitter, party of one!

Actually I expected this episode to be totally horrible.

But it was okay. Sure it felt more like a filler episode than a finale, which was kind of dissapointing, but I'm not about to stop watching Bones just because of it. It was AU, that was very apparent from the beginning so I didn't feel duped by it. I wasn't even surprised by the 'twist' it was a bit cliched like everyone said.

Reading the twitters before hand actually explained a lot, that they weren't able to fit into the hour long episode. I would have liked to see all the squints there with Brennan at the hospital and all that. But all we got was the AU in this episode.

I guess now its a long wait until Season 5. Any ideas when that'll be?

Lynn said...

Well what can I say about this episode. I guess I loved it and I hated it. I was so dissapointed when it wasn't real at all. And then the part about the episode that was real was like 2 minutes. Way too short. I have no idea what to expect from season 5, but can someone please remind me not to read spoilers about the season finale of season 5. I guess that when you don't know what to expect, you can't be dissapointed.

Anonymous said...

I thought it was so clever! We learned soooo much about the characters, and mostly, about our girl Brennan! The stuff she was writing told us soooooo much about how she feels, it really was very clever of Hart to have it happen that way, giving us what we wanted to see but with a twist.

I loved it, and I really feel that it opened a lot of doors for season 5!

Michelle said...

I really liked this episode. I think that Hart Hanson is a genius! I loved the way that he used to continus the story and the sex-tension between Brennan and Booth.
I was shocked at the end, but, ok, I liked. I really want to see the next season!
Sorry for my bad English... =]

jac said...

Amnesia is just Latin for "lazy writing". A very disappointing ending to a very good season.

Anonymous said...

I probably would have liked the episode if I hadn't heard any spoilers or speculation. I hate to say it but getting so involved in reading the blog likely ruined it for me.

keerz14 said...

here i was thinkin the real booth and brennan were gonna be taking a little bit of a step forward, but instead they took 6 seasons back..............and there is'nt even 6 seasons.

I kinda hated and loves this episode at the same time. Nice to think that Emily and David got to have fake sex and make out though :P

Anonymous said...

This Canadian thought that this show was horrible! The sex that I've been waiting for for an entire year was lackluster because it wasn't real! It was just two people making out...not exciting at all because it wasn't Booth and Brennan. I'd have rather waited longer. I spent the entire episode waiting for them to get back to the "real" characters and get out of fantasy land! I loved the last minute or so but I would've liked to see that play out...not some alternate reality!

I think that the story line wasn't just Booth's dream or Brennan's story, I think it was a fusion of how they both feel.

Anonymous said...

Ugh. Didn't like it at all. The fans will be happy my rear end.

Anonymous said...

This ep. sucks! I've nothing more to say.

Anonymous said...

I thought it was amazing !!

We know how Brennan feels; we know who Gordon Gordon was talking about. She wanted that entire story to come true, which is why when Booth said it felt so real, she very painfully said "It wasn't really." I mean, did you see her face?!?!?

I think this was an excellent way for HH to show us a side of Brennan that we never, ever see; just how deeply she truly does feel attatched to Booth.

I know a lot of people aren't happy, but wow. Just wow. I loved it.

Anonymous said...

Emily D looked very uncomfortable doing the sex scene with David. She showed much more fire when she had a similar scene with the character Sully. What's up with that? Does she know how lucky she is? Millions of women would have loved to be in her place. Come on this is David Boreanaz one of the best looking men in the world. OMG!!! How I wished I was her for just that one scene.

Stephanie said...

I don't think she looked uncomfortable. That scene with Booth and Brennan in this episode and the scene with Brennan and Sully from season 2 were two very very different scenes from two very very different relationships. It's almost not even right to compare the two, in my opinion.

So I watched online, and I LOVED it! I know that doesn't seem to be the popular opinion, but I really did like it. I've spent the last week trying to figure out how in the world they were going to have this nightclub story mixed in with sex and still have it all affect their relationship in the real world, and I just liked it. It was clever and different. I'm hoping certain parts will be better explained next season, but so far, I'm happy.

luscious said...

alright there I would urge all fans to give this a second viewing I just watched this over and despite my earlier ravings as I felt really let down this episode is actually not so bad, but I still dont love it it was actually a guy at work made me watch this over and I will thank him as I went to work in a very dispondent state and now it doesn't seem so bad.

I have been on this site ALOT just
looking around and reading all the great comments.I have only seen part of the episode on youtube. I think I know who the killer is but right now that doesn't matter. Here is my interpetation: I think that Bones was reading and writing to Booth and Booth could hear her and interpreted it with his own thoughts and feelings. She knows what she wrote and so does he because she was reading it to him as she wrote. I think that when he came out of his coma he thought it was real but realized it was just all a dream. I think it was what they both wanted. She wrote it and read it out load and Booth lived it in his sleep induced coma. I am thinking that he doesn't really have amnesia and when he said "who are you" it was in the way of wondering "if it wasn't real than he was asking her what are we really to each other?" because he sees it as her feeling the same way he does: he loves her, she loves him. It was like they both lived the dream: she writing/reading it aloud and Booth dreaming it along with her. Does this make any sense? My other conclusion was that he really thinks that she is his wife and when she said it wasn't real it confused him and that was why he said "who are you" like basically if it wasn't true than who are you? I don't know but one or the other of those is what I am leaning towards. We shall see after I watch the whole episode tonight on TV.

Angela said...

Yeah I totally agree in seeing it a second time! The first time I was sooo angry and disappointed and everything but now that I watched it again I could appreciate the whole episode better. Of course, I'm STILL quite disappointed about the ending, sadly my expectations were too high and that's never a good thing because you get disappointed easier, but I'm not that much angry as before! Actually now I'm more impatient to see how they manage the whole thing in next season! They have set up a great storyline! How am I supposed to wait all summer? Can't we have the season 5 premiere like next week??Hahah!!
Anyway. Disappointment aside I liked the episode. I'll say everything when the discussion topic is open, don't wanna say all things again ;-)
To those who did not like it, try to watch it again, not focusing on the final disappointment ;-)

Anonymous said...

I posted the long post a couple of post up. I just watched the end. I know who the killer is and all that but I am curious about what people think of my idea about the very end. I am thinking Booth doesn't have amnesia. I think he was dreaming and Bones I think was either just writing or writing and reading out loud. So if this is the case than they are both on the very same wavelength, only Booth made up the cast and their parts but he dreamed of he and Bones together, married and in the end of the dream having a baby. I think once again it is what they both want: to be together because they love each other, I think they both know it now. When he said that it seamed so real, the dream he had, and Bones said it wasn't real maybe he thought: then just who are you if you aren't my wife, or he thought: then what are we to each other?:I love you, I know you love me now. Like I have said a few times, I almost am convinced that he doesn't have amnesia. Quite the cliffhanger.

I watched it again (the fifth time today... Hey I'm a fan!!!)
And I like it more each time, I mean the lines are so great the scene where Angela, Sweet, Daisy, Wendell & Co respond to Cam & Jared, in FBI HQ, with Caroline their all so GREAT, so funny ...

During the all episode each character is so Faithful to another, like Booth and Brennan who are honest/in love to each other (the car scene and the Jared/Booth fight, the bedroom scene) and the "squints" too so loyal, protective to Booth and Brenn'
I love this line it's Brennan's : "They love us, especially you"

The final scene in the alternate reality is awesome, Bones pregnant [*I'm smiling*]

I liked the fact Booth call Bones "Bren'" or "Honey" I told myself if one day in the show they become a real couple it will be like that...it will be sweet and loving...

And the final scene: beatiful, I mean four days in coma and Brennan is here.Has she even leave?
And if she's the one who wrote the "dream" but Booth "live" it maybe they're now at the same page...well if Booth remember Brennan soon, I hope so, Ihope it's not a beginning again, I mean not a beginning with no "guy hug" and no "holding hands" or drinking together on a sofa...

I don't like the "triangle-thing" too... I like Jared is okay but just in the little brother role no less, no more!

Well I clearly can't wait for season 5 to begin! I so LOVE this show!!!

Kisses
Môö French again!!!

Ergh I hated this episode, it was awful I really don't like the way the show is going i can't seem to take it seriously anymore it seems like HH is taking the fan base for granted and has started to take it as a bit of a joke. I thought it started well but for the whole fantasy thing to last the entire ep was too much, I wanted to see how brennan and the gang coped when Booth was in surgery and if he was in a coma for 4 days how they dealt with it. The scene in ep25 where brennan is with them all just before Booth goes to surgery was in my opionon one of the best of the season and I wanted to see more of these strong emotions coming out. I can't believe what happened at the end it makes me want to scream, we have been waiting for 4 seasons for B/B to get together and now they make Booth forget who she even is, although I did fear this at the end of ep25. The only thing I did like about this episode was seeing the whole cast from all seasons, that was nice! HH if u read this blog i am one angry fan and you better redeem yourself with season 5 with Less gimmicks please. Stop playing us and give the fans what we want!!

Anonymous said...

I can't believe this. This isn't happening. I'm so disgusted I don't know what to do with myself. HH, you bastard. I mean, WHAT THE HELL!??????

Dani said...

I loved that this all happened in an alternate reality, i mean come on... they barely touch most of the time, how the hell would they end up in bed together telling each other they loved each other...when barely a kiss or touch had been shared..?!

People knew this wouldnt be a romantic hook up between the two of them, HH never made ANY secret of the fact that this would be a cheat and yet here folks are screaming about how disappointed they are in, what i thought was a well put together episode that did more to advance the relationship between them then any other, i mean, she's admitted she loves him for cripes sake!!

My two cents

Stephanie said...

Anonymous, I'm actually thinking the same thing in regards to your theory. I'm not convinced he's really going to not remember her. The guy just got out of a 4 day coma, for goodness sake. He's highly disoriented, and he just had a dream that he seemed pretty convinced was real. He's confused. Having him truly not remember her is, I think, the predictable route when you're dealing with a brain surgery storyline.

Dani, I agree with you, too. I really and honestly don't understand all the hate for this episode. I'm about to go watch it for the third time, and I love it. Hart said it was gonna be a cheat, and really, what showrunner is actually going to announce that his characters are going to really have sex a year before it happens? When it really does happen, we're not going to know ahead of time. As for the finale scene, it was sweet. It was loving. It was romantic. It was exactly how we all want to see them for real some day. I didn't have a problem with it.

Stephanine, I am the poster that said that Emily did not look comfortable with the scene with David. I taught she would be really comfortable doing this type of scene with David B. I was talking about real people not characters. This had nothing to do about relationships between characters.

I agree with you Stephanie. The whole episode was a big metaphore for the charachter relationships! Vincent N-M saying Zack that he is the type of lunatic who goes to jail for not comitting a murder? There are so many clever subtexts and charachterization. Also Booth haven't even called out Brennan on the possible cheating. Lot of shows do not show this kind of faith between their charachters. If there is a rumour about somebody cheating, they instantly do something stupid, broke up, then realize that they have been mislead, blabla. Booth had complete faith in Brennan and didn't go mad for nothing! I very much loved it!
The dynamic of this episode was very different from the others. If somebody REALLY hates it beause it is not what they wanted, then it's selfish. I can see what Emily said about not dissipating the tension between them. There are a lot of possibilities they can go from here, and either way I am sure they will get closer to each other. This was a unique episode and all-in-all I liked it.

I tried to like it, but the whole time I was wondering what was going on, all the characters felt awkward. Though I did like some of the in-jokes, overall it built up to something dissapointing, I mean the final line from Booth, really? HH had to play that card? I will give this episode another viewing sometime the down the line though.

OMG... I felt so cheated... I agree with Stefan the characters just felt weird. At the beggining everything felt so weird I just couldn't follow. I also agree I would have liked to see Brennan during Booth's operation/recovery. Also how can Booth not know who Brennan is if he just dreamt of her and swore it felt real! Either way I think the amnesia or whatever Booth meant by "who are you" was way far fetched. I think the whole episode was ridiculous; and okay I knew that some way or another there would be a cheat, and I was expecting it but this just went to far. THE WHOLE EPISODE WAS THE CHEAT. If you ask me HH is in for some serius trouble. Season 5 better be good and he better come up with a good way to fix this mess because fans (including myself) are not going to like watching B&B having to start over just when things were heating up. Overall I don't know wethere to feel sad or just plain pissed. I had a lot of expectations that just got crushed, and this episode just got me confused.

Come on, romantics. Help me out here.

I, too, have sort of mixed feelings about the finale, but I know that it will improve upon subsequent viewings; there will be quite a few clever references, like Vincent telling Zack he's the kind of dope who goes to jail for a murder he didn't commit, that I missed on the first broadcast. And when I find these little gems, at a time when my husband isn't in the living room and I can re-re-rewind the DVR and inspect the episode for lovely little moments a couple dozen times without him making fun of me for hours...but I digress...wait, where was I?

Yes, it was clearly irritating not to have a solid 42 minutes of Brennan & Booth exchanging those looks that give us a little thrill, a tiptoe closer to the deep, abiding love that's simmering under the surface, plus some finale-worthy tension and a great in-universe murder mystery. Or let's run with the coma, and I would have LOVED to see the doctor telling Brennan he had no idea when Booth would wake up. I want to see her fall apart in the most un-Bones-like fit of emotional brokenness we could imagine, at the thought of losing him forever, knowing she'd never had the courage to express her deepest wants to him I wanted Anglea to witness it all and realize how madly Bones is in love with Booth, even if Bones doens't know how to express it in words. And we didn’t get either of those. We kinda got HH's version of the Wizard of Oz. Which was cute, and a little funny, and confirmed, in a way, the things about B&B we know to be true. And maybe it's a light prediction of things to come next year. Who knows?

Things that are not a disappointment...I love the idea that Brennan sat and wrote this mystery/love story with Booth's subconscious following along, hanging on her every whispered word. That for four days, while his broken mind struggled to repair itself, she wove in his dreams this love story between two people, who personality-wise, were wired JUST like her and Booth, who despite their incredible differences, were inseparable, unshakable, in the face of incredible opposition, and that Bones shared the story with him, knowing full well that were he awake, Booth would see though it all. Don't you see, that this was the first time she felt safe to give voice to her feelings (barely safe enough to write it, but not safe enough to not delete it once she'd voiced the final words)? When she might hide behind the veil of plausible deniability a little longer? This is a big step for a character with her history, so terrified of tying her happiness to another.

Just you wait until this silly, foggy, post-op temporary amnesia!crap wears off (side note: like 13 years ago somebody in the X-Files fandom coined the phrase Salad!Mulder after the edisode "The Blessing Way" when the Anasazi indian ancestors covered a naked Mulder in cedar branches and danced around his comatose body in a healing ritual, and my internal TV-obsession-related dialogue had never been the same. …hmmm, another hot FOX actor in a coma, with a partner who has a hard time admitting she's madly in love with him. It only took another eight or nine years for Scully and Mulder to get together. Let's hope Hart doens't follow the Chris Carter method!!). Anyway, I want to see what happens then, when coma!Booth wakes up for real, when the Booth we know returns. Will he remember the dream then? Will he know it wasn't a dream at all, but rather a love letter woven into a whispered fiction by his desperate partner? GASP! I'm all a twitter at the possibilities.

But UGH, I have one terrible thought. That Booth's amnesia!crap will drag on an episode or two longer than it should and Jared will fly in, fresh from his soul-searching in India and appear very concerned about Booth and try to *comfort* Brennan, and that TPTB will be sillly enough to have Jared make a pass at her and instead of immediately knocking his teeth down his throat, they will write Brennan so she lets Jared kiss her before she comes to her senses and knocks his teeth down his throat. I'm all for her kicking his butt the moment he shows up feigning fake concern. Once a weasel, always a weasel. Taking advantage of her like we know he would in a vulnerable moment. I hope she kicks him in the whatsit. I loves me some Bones righteous indignation.

Ugh. What more can I say? I should be in bed instead of writing this.

They will end up together. Why?

Picture two people who aren’t together, but should be.

You guys are all so insightful, your plot thoughts/feelings, spot on in my opinion.. I've been reading all over the Bones forum world and I have to say this site is awesome so many intelligent people adding.

My thoughts? Well I've watched the epi four times, (Sad, I know) still cannot reconcile why HH had to go with amnesia, (old, saw that coming, I'm a old gal :-)) Or is it post op confusion? With dream/Bones narration, of a story she deleted!? Deleted! rewind 2 seasons? Oh brother! Pray not.

HH twitter reply to question freaked me out too. 'Not a dream, not a book, meeting of minds' WTF? Yes it was fun, Bones crew in different settings and roles, Chicken pyramid awesome, Daisy Wick, she's my girl! Zach having yet 'another' bad day! He he..

Bad things: cheated.. that's not sex! Not even between a old married couple! I should know 20 years this August!!..We saw more in Death/departed and Scientist! It was rolling about with lips, no tongue? Whats that all about? LOL. Looked kinda awkward to me. DB didn't pull that off at all. Which was a shame..We have a saying in Blightly, if it aint broke, don't fix it.. I think if this isn't resolved rapido, it's just been broken..

Love to hear from you all, tidings to all, role on season V

Oooo Ps. Four years they have been dancing around one another, many people have said their hook-up would be contrived if they just jumped into bed.. Well.. with what HH and the writers have given us over the years, specially this season, I cannot see why they 'wouldn't' just go for it. Enough foreplay Hart, we might go off the boil. That's it I'm done. Night night sweet dreams.

I can't believe I saw the same show as others here. It was IMHO absolutely brilliant! It was knock-it-out-of-the-park brilliant!

Maybe some folks analyze too much without really analyzing. At the start of the episode we get a picture of Booth in bed and Hodgins doing a voiceover. What does the narration sound like? It sounds just like a novel or short story! So this is a story. Could it be Booth imagining in his anasthetic haze? No, because the story was well developed, there were no surreal moments, there was nothing to indicate it was anything other than a detective story. Booth had no part of this. Who do we know of the characters in the show who writes detective fiction? Brennan! It's a story written by Brennan.

Once you get that, the other parts begin to fall together. She used people she knows as characters in the story. Some of them have similar characteristics to the "real" people and some don't. Angela "doesn't have much of a visual sense" and Sweets, as a bartender, is "almost a psychologist."

Booth and Bren love each other very much, which is something Brennan can't admit to herself. But her story alter ego understands this, understands that Booth would do anything for her, and is not worried in the least that Jared accuses her of cheating on Booth. And neither does Booth. They both know themselves and the other. Talking about the Persian, Bren says that it wouldn't be irrational (a form of rational, one of Brennan's favorite words) to think she was having an affair with him. He's (the Persian) is handsome. Booth replies "I'd know the energy was bad between us, I'd know." And then he adds, "just as you (Bren) know I couldn't murder someone." And she comes back with "I believe you would murder someone for me."

Booth and Bren have this extraordinary relationship that mirrors Booth and Brennan, but adds love to it. Then Jared is discovered to be the killer, protecting Booth the way that Booth has protected his brother for a long time.

And yes, there are lots of inside jokes. That makes it fun. Sweets' band is Gormogon. Max Keenan works for The Gravedigger (although Booth thinks he IS the Gravedigger).

At the end of the episode the narration dissolves into words on the computer screen, the voice changing from Hodgins to Brennan. She looks at it for a moment, then deletes it. He wakes up and we find out that he's been in a coma for 4 days. She's been there the whole time, I'm sure of it (although there's nothing to prove that). Then he drops the bombshell, who are you?

HH said it would change the relationship and allow it to go in different directions. I believe that wholeheartedly, and I'm excited for next year to come!

Hmmm I read spoilers and was kinda pissed off that Brennan and Booth didn't hook up for real, but all in all I did enjoy the episode, I laughed at all the inside jokes. I also loved the end, IF Booth can't remember Brennan it should make for an interesting season next year. ( I never considered that the line "who are you" would be considered a redirect till I read some comments on here, and now I believe it could definately be Booth trying to distinguish fact from his dream, but I'm leaning more toward it being a straightforward comment, I mean the guy did just have brain surgery it's not such a leap that part of his memory could be affected)
