Hart Hanson on the (lack of) Emmys for Bones

LATimes Blog has an article up about various shows that deserve Emmys and yet are constantly overlooked. Bones leads the pack:

Hart Hanson, executive producer of " Bones," has almost everything a show runner could want -- a hit series with a hot leading man and woman, praise from critics and a loyal and growing fan base.

But one day a year, Hansen laments what he hasn't got. On those annual mid-July mornings when the nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards are announced, Hanson always hopes to see his show among the list of award contenders. And he is almost always let down.
If only they didn't misspell Hart's name through half the article...

I found this on EW's site. There is a clip, at the end, about David's 'must' list. It's kind of cute.

So true about HH's name. But then, after years of theater and film work and like, fifty seasons of CSI some people still print William Petersen's name as Peterson... Guess those spell-check programs still get the best out of our media reporters. How sad.

Also, David is going to be on the Bonnie Hunt show TOMORROW (5/28).

I could understand consistently misspelling it, but having both Hansen and Hanson in successive sentences? That's one lazy editor. I agreed with the sentiment of the article, however. Quirky shows don't often get recognized. Still, David and Emily deserve acting nods more than most people I see on tv.

And Ausiello has a Bones scoop. Thought I don't know if it counts as a spoiler, or even a scoop:

The Bonnie hunt appearance is a rerun. Will check out the other stuff now though... :)

I would love, love, love to see Emily Deschanel get an Emmy nomination. Unfortunately, Bones is one of those shows that doesn't really fit with the shows that normally get the drama nods, but it also doesn't really fit with the normal comedy nods. I've been saying the Emmys need new "dramedy" categories for years.

One problem I had with this article, though, was the quote from the Rules of Engagement producer that said, "It seems like popularity and ratings aren't important." Umm...they're not when it comes to the Emmys, and that's exactly how it should be. If popularity and ratings/box office numbers counted for anything in the Emmys or Oscars, we would have stupid stuff constantly winning and not the people who deserve it. That would be like letting the most popular kid in school be valedictorian - not because they earned it, but because everyone likes that person best. The Emmys definitely need some updating or reworking, but basing them on fan popularity and ratings is not the way to go.
