How did you develop your Obsession?

So, other Bones-obsessed fans, how did you find Bones? Are you an 'original' fan? A writer's strike fan? When did you find it, and what kept you coming back?

I am a proud writer's strike fan who kept coming back for the entire package, with the BB relationship edging out the rest of the reasons :)

I have watched religiously since the very first episode aired. In fact, I have had a TiVo season pass for Bones since the pilot.

I wasn't really that in to it, though I told someone I watched it on/off to try impress em! Got in to it when iTunes had "Titan On The Tracks" free of charge, haven't turned back since!!

writer's strike fan. Kinda glad the strike happened. Not sure I'd have found it otherwise. Now this is the only show I watch!! I barely watch Grey's anymore. I love Bones and the entire cast that make me laugh every week :)

I gave it a try when they've started to air the first season here in Hungary (2007 spring) and because of DB (Buffy/Angel shows were here, too, although I haven't seen them because they were on cable I think, so only heard about the buzz and seen a picture of DB.)

I liked it from the start, but honestly I only watched it because they were after House (although House is on a different channel here, paired up with Desperate Housewives) and I thought they were a good pair (H'wives started to annoy me). :)

Since it was a Spring&Summer schedule I could't watch it every week, so I dropped out eventually. About the time when 3x06 - Intern in the Incinerator were aired in the USA I was in a situation where I had to improve my English, so I started to search for informations, blogs, communities about this show (constantly messaged on the IMDB board). My obsession hit me then. I couldn't stop it!! Thanks to the internet, I was able to catch up to you during the writer's strike but only found your blog after the season ended. I became a regular reader about the time S4 began. Now your blog is the first (and only) I read every day because seriously, yours is The.Best! I occasioanlly read spoilerblogs, but stopped them after Korbi spoiled the Doctor in the Den episode entirely.

I'm a sort of writer's strike fan. My mom always watched Bones and so I'd see parts. But then when the strike happened I had nothing to watch, so I sat down and watched an episode with her. I've been hooked since. (watching it now as I type this, actually)

Miss Mary said...

I was totally hooked from the first episode. It was a mixture of accident and fate. I have always been a fan of procedurals, humor, and UST and this show, from day one had it all. I had never heard of it, nor seen any previews. One night my remote was missing, and the TV was stuck on FOX, I didn't bother looking for it for the full hour! It was my favorite time I lost something!

Milky said...

I knew the show existed for a while and wanted to see it because of DB... but having no cable TV (FOX is paid here in my country, obviously) and it not being shown on free tv had me waiting.
Then, suddenly I see it in an open channel here... they aired it without a strict schedule, so I had to guess when it'd be on--- and liked it not only for DB, but as a whole. But then they stopped airing it, and it was a looooong til I could watch another ep.
It was during the strike (though I had absolutely no idea about it at the time) and I remembered about this show I had liked so much... thought I'd give it a try and watch the latest ep...

Santa in the Slush. I laughed and went gooey with the ep and I needed to know how they had changed from the eps I had seen (afterwards I'd know I'd watched S1 eps) to that wonderful ep!

Since then it was my obsession. Got every ep and watched it as soon as I had it in my hands; it was around the time I discovered OWB, too. Since then Bones has been with me daily, lol, making me do things I had never done before (like reading and writing fanfic) and enjoying and... well, I bet you know what I'm talking about.

My family would watch if on and off, and we were always interested in it, and I always thought that Booth and Brennan's relationship was so cute. This past year, my roommate at college watched it religiously, and I'd come into the room and find her watching it, and soon enough I had pulled my desk chair up next to the computer to watch with her. Then I saw the commercial for the season 4 finale, and I thought, "Ooh, I need to watch that!" But since the Office was on that night, too, I waited and watched it online. When the first scene happened, I was completely confused, and I thought I had missed something in the previous few episodes, 'cause the last one I had seen was The Double Death of the Dearly Departed. So I had to go back and watch several in a row to make sure they hadn't hooked up and I missed it! Since then, I've been addicted.

I'm a fan since the first episode. I knew David Boreanaz from Angel and the idea of having him on a forensic show made me watch it. Would it be weird if I say that what got my atention on the pilot was Emily's eyes lol, I've never seen such a beautiful eyes.

I've been a fan since the first episode aired. It was a strange happening for me. I had discovered Kathy Reichs in January of 2005 and was so fascinated by her books and her characters that I had read all seven books released by that point in the matter of two months time. This is unheard of in my world as real life doesn't leave a lot of time for pleasure reading and everyone knew they must be good if I managed this accomplishment. About the time that her next novel was released, I started hearing rumblings about a show based on her character Temperance Brennan. Well, I had to check it out. Though the episode was different, it was still really enjoyable and I have had no problem keeping the Temperance Brennan of the novels separate from the Temperance Brennan of the show. I love both equally. So much so that I have a season pass on iTunes for the episodes and a preorder in place at Barnes and Noble for the books as they come out.

This show is the only thing I watch religiously on television these days besides the news. While I had never (please don't hate me for this) seen or heard of David Boreanaz before this show, I am a total fan of his now. The man is amazing. Emily Deschanel was certainly a find as well. She is fabulous as the genius who doesn't understand pop culture and has "a lot of psychology" despite it being a soft science. The leads are incredible so it is no wonder that the rest of the cast is just as good creating this wonderful product that gives us at least an hour's reprieve from the real world once a week.

Long live BONES! and God bless Hart Hanson and Barry Josephson!

I am a Writer's Strike fan. It was March of '08 and I was visiting my sister at her apartment. She had rented the first season at Blockbuster and *insisted* that she finish the episode she started.

Being the younger sister that I am, I threw a fit and said that if she was going to make me watch this show then she needed to start the episode over so I at least had a small idea of what the heck was going.

That episode was 'Two Bodies in the Lab'. Need I say more? :)

I discovered Bones during the Writer's Strike. I've always loved reading mysteries and suspense, and had just started watching procedurals when I tuned in to TNT late one night. I watched one episode (Woman in the Tunnel) and was hooked. My hubby downloaded S1 and I watched the entire thing in just 2 days, even though the sound was out of sync! And I've been obsessed ever since...

It has been airing in India for a while... but i could not catch it regularly and was a little confused. But i loved B&B. When we moved to London last year and discovered really high speed broadband and online sites with all episodes - i got hooked. Converted my husband. Covertly convinced him to get me the DVD boxset for our 5th wedding anniversary :)..And now am testing the abilities of the dvds not to get completely erased by watching it obsessively over and over again. What makes me thrilled with OWB and other forums is the fact that I am not completely loony. Or atleast there are other loonies like me!

I got pulled in about a year ago, was using Hulu.com to watch House episodes (I don't have a TV), had watched all the House stuff Hulu had, so just "picked something" to pass time.

I think the Fallout Christmas episode was the one I picked. Didn't stop watching until I'd watched all 10 episodes on Hulu at that time.

I knew about Angel/BtVS from when my daughter was still home ... but had never watched either and remember puzzling big time about how in the heck you pronounced David Boreanaz's name.

The writing, the ensemble cast, the sparks between B/B, the heart and the humor... They had me at hello.

With no more episodes to watch I went looking for more info. Of all the Bones sites all over the internet, OWB was the one I fell in love with because of Wendy's reviews and the discussions.

I've since watched them all, over and over, via Amazon. I don't watch any other TV shows, have never watched much TV period. House caught my attention; Bones has kept it.

And I love OWB. It has a different feel and approach than some of the other sites I read but don't post much on.

Keep it up whatever you do, Wendy!
You are truly appreciated!

I found it during the writers strike and after a couple of episodes, I went on line to catch up with everything.

I have become so obsessed I enjoy watching each episode multiple times.

It's edged out every show on my agenda.

Stephanie said...

My first episode was the season three premiere. I had wanted to watch before, but my grandma who watched told me it was really gross, so that kept me away from it for longer than it would've otherwise. By the end of that episode, I liked it (and was already asking when B&B were gonna hook up!) and then by the end of "Death in the Saddle," I really liked it. "Mummy in the Maze" made me really love it, and "Boy in the Time Capsule" is what got me obsessed. I think it was the Brainy Smurf scene that stole my heart. Plus, I've always said that I fell in love with the show because Brennan is the exaggerated, pop-culturally-challenged version of me!

And Lara, I don't think it's weird that you loved Emily's eyes right away. Emily's eyes are amazing! TJ's, too.

I happened upon The Blonde in the Game one boring night at my house. My best friend had been telling me how great Bones was since S1 but I was totally resistant to watching it. My reasoning was that I don't like horror or gore of any kind so imagine my surprise when I actually liked Bones. By the time Jasper the pig came in to play, I was hooked. I caught up on the old episodes during a brief hiatus that was going on then and I've been a fan ever since.

I joined in between seasons 3 & 4. During the spring of 2008 my Remington Steele fans were going on about this show and how the chemistry of the leads was the best they'd seen since Steele aired 20+ years ago. Finally I borrowed the S1 discs from a friend. I watched ep 1 and thought it was just "ok". But I remembered that Steele's pilot (actually the 2nd ep to air) had a bit of a different feel to it vs. the rest of the series, so a few weeks later I watched ep 2. From that point on I was hooked.

It took me about a week to watch S1 and then I had to wait for my friend to mail me S2. I can't remember if I started watching it on Friday night or Saturday but I was done with S2 by Monday night. By then S3 reruns were airing so with the help of fox.com and Hulu I managed to see everything but Santa/Slush and Man/Mud. After awhile I tracked those down on some site with a small screen and Kanji subtitles!

@TrishJean, don't feel bad, I'd never heard of David either. I wasn't watching any show regularly until I got hooked on Bones. Even now it's the only thing I watch each week, though I may add Castle in the fall.

Love this site; it's like one-stop-shopping for Bones info! And after reading all the spoilers for the first half of the season and making a decision to be relatively spoiler-free for the second half, I appreciate the effort Wendy makes to label everything so well!

Stephanie said...

Ooh, forgot to mention that after I found the show during the beginning of season 3, I begged my parents for the first 2 seasons for Christmas (so much so my Mom said she was hearing "I want Bones!!" in her sleep!) Well, I got both seasons and watched all 43 episodes, plus special features and commentaries in four days. I don't think I did anything else for four days but watch Bones.

Of course, then the episodes became one gigantic tangled mess in my head and I had to watch them all again...slowly, haha.

I was bored and flipping channels one day and decided to watch. it was during season one, The Graft in the Girl, about halfway through, I thought it was interesting but then sort of forgot about it because I couldn't figure out when it was on until I caught an episode again in the middle of season two, I've been obsessed since then!

Just recently got into it, via the TNT back to back airing on weekday afternoons. They were kind of going in chronological order, but I decided to start from the beginning on DVD and am currently working throught season 2. The chemistry between all the team members is the main attraction for me, followed closely by Emily's... well just her being Emily and how perfect she seems to be for the role. I don't remember her from Cold Mountain, but Mrs. Morgan was a pretty minor character and I've only seen it once.

I thought Zooey was a cutie, but Emily has got that cool, calm, refined beauty that can just stop you dead in your tracks.

One thing I know that is going to be excruciatingly hard once I do get caught up is waiting for a week for new episodes. Ah, well, I'll enjoy the DVD's while they last...

I got on board around the writers strike after catching the "Man in the Fallout Shelter" episode. I used hulu and surf the chanel to go back and watch all of the episodes in order. That took about a week or so.
The last show I watched religiously was West Wing, but since then I haven't really kept up with much. I've been a fan of the autopsy/forensic type shows for some time (I love me some Michael Baden & Kathy Reichs), so Bones makes total sense for me.

Like Trish Jean, I had never seen DB in anything - but I love the Booth character and he fills it well. ;)
At this point I have all of the seasons on dvd or dvr (4th) and I watch an episode a day for fun.
Obsessed much? Definitely.

A fan since the first episode aired here in Germany (which is about a year after it originally aired in the US). I tuned in because I knew DB from Angel and because of the Kathy Reichs books. lol, that is an embarassing one, because in the beginning I didn´t watch because of DB, his acting back in the days of Angel -imho - was sometimes less than stellar, so I decided not to watch

well, that was a decision I regretted a little when I stumbled upon Bones while channelsurfing...

I was hooked within a few minutes, and especially by DB, and this whole chemistry thing going on with ED, and the little differences to all the other procedurals

I was a big fan of the first two seasons of NCIS because of the Tony/Kate relationship. I was really dissapointed when that ended, but i read on a blog somewhere that the Bones/Booth relationship was similar. So i went and bought the 1st season and watched it within a few days, I then went out and bought 2&3, I was so hooked! This show for me is on par with x-files (which is my all time fav)and i love that bones flimes in the exact studio where x-files was filmed (oh the magic).

I saw an ad in magazine about Bones season 2 and there was a picture of David and Emily. I loved David in Buffy and Angel and was obsessed with both shows and I've always liked murder mystery/cop shows so I thought I'd give it a go. I can't even remember the first episode I saw: it feels as if I've been watching from the beginning. Whatever the episode was, I fell in love with the show.

I used to sleep in the living room around that time, for a few months, since my grandmother had come over froma abroad so naturally I had to give up my bed. I used to watch Bones at like 11pm and midnight when everyone else was asleep.

I spent my summer catching up on episode's I'd missed and of course I stumbled upon OWB, which has fuelled the obsession to a new level!

It was last year while season three was still airing and I was taking a forensics class, and the teacher decided to show an episode of bones. Well, ...the episode was Aliens in the Spaceship. Yup, I was a goner. The whole episode I can remember going crazy trying to figure out what the relationship between the two partners was, and even before I knew the characters I found myself getting mad at Cam for being woth Booth. At this point, there was like 2 episodes left in season 3 so I decided not to watch these, but start from season 1. I now have all 3 seasons, and I started watching weekly from the very start of seaosn 4. I have never missed a week now, and I am always changing my schedule around so that I can watch it live! =] This is the only show that I am obsessed with, besides maybe NCIS. But my Bones obsession is much much much stronger.

Then my fave character left from CSI and I got more and more into the Bones fandom. Now this is the only show that I religiously watch :)

I remember seeing the promos for the frist season and thinking it looked good, like the X-files. I caught a few S1 episodes here and there when I was able, but I didn't become OBSESSED until the Two Bodies in the Lab episdoe aired. From then on I tried never to miss an episode.

I saw bits and pieces of The Man in the Cell on TBS, and I ended up stopping on the part where Brennan's "in the shower" waiting for Epps to come to her apartment. I was so sure that it would be your typical "woman's in the shower, killer comes to find her, she must be saved by a man" that I actually yelled at the TV. I was SO incredibly surprised and happy when Brennan stepped out of the bathroom fully-clothed and holding her gun, expecting him. After that, I was hooked. Because, really, shows that have women who can take care of themselves are kind of few and far between.

I should say that that happened around the end of August, so I rushed to watch all three seasons in time for the season 4 opener.

I started to watch the show because of David Boreanaz. I can't believe how good looking he is. I have to admit I didn't know who Emily was. I watched the Pilot and thought she is a pretty girl, but that is all their is in Hollywood. Pretty Girls. She just had something different that increased my fascination. I have been obsessed since then. I have never ever seen two actors fall into their characters so readily when being interviewd. Both have admitted that they have a really close strong friendship off screen. Because of that and their acting abilities, that's what makes this a great show. I LOVE IT.

I've been a fan since day one. Of course after Angel went off the air I was sad. But then I really got into forensics shows. So when I started seeing the promos and saw David had a new show and it involved an area of forensics I never heard of before I became interested. The bonus was that the lead character was a butt kicking FEMALE, so I was hooked. But I have to admit, I didn't become OBSESSED until probably the second season. Now I am thoroughly in love with not just David, but Emily and the entire cast, including Hart, Stephen and Barry.

I passed by the television one night and happened to see David Boreanaz on screen; I said, "Oh, that's the guy from Angel" and kept walking. Being a big fan of his, however, I spied the first season on DVD at Sam's Club for $15.

The concept was enough to hook me into buying it. I watched the entire thing in two days and then (because no matter where you look online the second season is ridiculously expensive) watched the second season online over the summer. I joined in on the third season on television and from the first episode in the third season I've watched it religiously ever since.

It was the fact that everything was focused on the characters as well as the crime, and the BB, and David Boreanaz mixed in with Emily Deschanel, TJ, Micheala Conlin, and eventually Tamara Tayler that got me hooked. I'm officially Obsessed with Bones and proud of it too!

I was babysitting last summer, late one Saturday night, after the S3 finale. The kid I was watching had already gone to bed, so I plopped down in front of the family's TV. They had cable, so after a little bit of channel-surfing, I stumbled on a rerun of Wannabe in the Weeds. I caught the episode right as they found the guy's head...Anyway, I had absolutely no idea what show I was watching, but I really liked it. When I got home, I did a little search on the internet to find it, and started watching season 1 on Hulu. I nearly drove my parents crazy yattering on about how I couldn't wait for the S4 premiere, and then I kicked them off their bed for two hours to watch it when it came back. I've been hooked ever since, and I've even managed to get my mom hooked too. For Christmas, I bought myself the Season 1 & 2 DVDs, and have been making my parents watch with me during the hiatuses. I have no idea why, but my favorite episode ever is Man in the Fallout Shelter. I once watched it 3 times in a row!!

I have been a fan for almost a year now.

Last summer I was studying abroad at Oxford and on my last day there my roommate and I decided to go do some sightseeing and catch things we had missed. We wanted to see the Divinity School at the Boldlein Library, but were told that we couldn't because Bones was filming there that day. I had heard of the show but didn't know anything about it. Fortunately, my roommate knew the show and she got really excited. We realized that they were walking around outside rehearsing a scene so we got to stand out there and watch them for a few minutes. It was very cool!

When I got back to the States I had about a month before going back to college so I got the DVDs from my library and found season 3 online. I think I got obsessed about half way through watching season 1. By the time I was watching the second season I was staying up until 1 am or later and waking up at 7 wide awake and ready to watch more!

I actually only started watching this past winter, whatever was available on Hulu and the Fox site (with two young children I don't get to watch much prime time TV.)

I started watching because of a brief interview with Emily that appeared in Parade magazine--some of her comments about the show intrigued me. Plus Emily and I have the same birthday, and that even got me interested.

Have not been watching the episodes in any logical order, but I've been enjoying all of it, especially the humor and chemistry the actors have with each other.

I finished all the Kathy Reichs books right before TNT started airing old eps last summer. I started with the first episode then scrambled to catch up before season 4 started airing new last fall. Now I'm totally hooked and have a series recording to re-watch all the older episodes!

I'm not sure we even got season 1 in Aus. Somewhere in Season 2 I was hooked...OMG! and when I say hooked I do mean hooked! My DVD players screams NOOOOOOOO!!!!! when I start from the beginning.....again...season 1...the pilot... and work throught them all!
I did a uni subject this year on the web... so of course all my assignments and research was done based on Bones' websites!
I have never had an obsession before and I have to say it is a little scary lol!
I love many episodes...but the Boy in the Bush ALWAYS makes me cry.

My mom had been trying to get me to watch it since the first season, I kept putting her off (I hate her taste in television shows). Anyway, I was hanging out with her one day and watched an episode with her this past December(the one where Jared goes on a date with Bones). Thankfully, I had just finished Grad school and had the time to catch up quickly by watching all three previous seasons in the span of 2 weeks. I have been hooked ever since...

Started watching sometime during the first season, after I realized "Angel" was on a new show. I've been recording and watching ever since!

I watched it in Germany several years ago, the first ep I saw was A Boy in A Tree. I didn't like it much so I stopped watching. Last summer ago while in France with my host family I watched several eps from season two I think and became hooked. I came back to the US watched the first couple eps from season four in the fall. Then I went back and watched them all from the beginning. Have stuck with Bones ever since.

I started watching around the 3rd season, but I had bought the first 2 when they came out. I knew I wanted to watch them because of David. I just got my mom to start watching Bones and she likes it as well.

I watch this show for one person and one person only.(David Boreanaz). From the great majority of comments it seems that a lot of people feel the same way. In an interview Emily stated that the reason that the show is a success is because DB is so handsome. ITA!!!!!

Watched since day 1. I didn't know both actors and I was not particularly impressed.
But the second episode, Man in the SUV, with Tessa, a jealous Brennan and that wonderful, amazing, emotional final scene when he goes back home to Tessa and she goes back to her lab.. I got sooo hooked.
By Man in the fallout shelter, I was already busy looking for information on the internet about David, Emily and the whole show.

4 Years of obsession, and getting worse.

I am also one that fell in love with Emily's eyes. And I'm a girl :-)

I have pretty much watched it since the beginning, but only recently has my liking of the show turned into love and borderline obsession;^)

I wish I could say I started m obession from the start of season 1. However, I first watched the premier of season 3 because it was on after (or before I can't remember) my other obsession, House. I have been hooked ever since, and the obsession has led to loving Angel and Buffy (I know, kind of the reverse from everyone else) It didn't take me long to run out and buy the other two seasons so that I knew what was going on.

My nickname is Bones! I am into genealogy and that is what I've been called for years! I missed the first episode, but became an instant fan after the second one aired. Of course, my sweetie is now called Booth. If we are someplace where there is no TV then we watch on iTunes. We have all the DVDs and are anxiously waiting for next season to begin. BTW: this blog is a great community.

Me too - I got into Bones and my husband used DB as leverage to get me to watch Buffy/Angel

It seems to me that a lot of viewers started to and continue to watch this because of David Boreanaz. What a LOVEFEST!!!

Well, I don't really know when I felt in love with Bones. I could say since day one (in Italy, of course...) because I watched the promos of the Pilot and I've been totally kept by the "I don't know what that means" line. (The italian version is a little different from the original one, because Brennan is asking Booth if "Scully&Mulder" is a beer brand). I immediatly thought "Wow, somebody that doesn't know who Mulder and Scully are, she's a sort of alien. I like it!". So I started to watch it on and off, because the schedule of the italian television was "embarassing" (Prime time on Saturday for s1 and around midnight for s2...). Last spring I bought Season 1 DVD box set and last summer Season 2. In Italy season 3 has been aired only on Pay Tv (I don't have it), but I've got my season 3 DVD box in english and watched season 4 online.
I really obsessed but I have to admit that I'm not alone. The italian fandom is very big.
Last but not least, Bones is the only show that I strictly watch OV, because the italian dubbing (is it right?) is awful.

I was a Kathy Reichs devotee first....when I heard about the show, I made a date of watching the pilot. Although different from the books, I love the show! Haven't missed an episode!

I had read all if Kathy's novels and then one day I saw a Bones episode was posted on Hulu.com (I don't own a television and I hadn't watched any show consistently for more than 5 years). The episode I saw was the season finale of S1, so of course I had to immediately go back and watch the season from the beginning. And then all watch all the other episodes to catch up to S4.
I spent a small fortune buying all the episodes that weren't on hulu from itunes and now I go to my parents' house every week to watch it.

I am an "original" fan. LOL. I remember watching FOX and i saw a commercial for the premiere, and I thought it looked like it was going to be a cool show. So the day it premiered, I watched, and was hooked.

I remember thinking it might be interesting when the show first started, but never watching it. Then I caught the episode where Hodgin's proposed to Angela & she turned him down and thought, "I need to watch this show." Which I promptly forgot to do. Well I saw a couple more reruns (on TNT), and caught the last of Season 3 last summer. Then I went out and bought Season 1 and Season 2 and watched them both within 2 weeks. Then I watched all the Season 3 episodes that were available on the Fox website. And then repeated the whole process. And I watch religiously to this day!!

In Greece, "Bones" started airing in last year's summer. Since i was on holidays then, i didn't start watching it from the very beginning, but when i did, i fell in love with all the characters, and the entire show! Since then, i can say that yeah, i'm deeply obsessed, and have watch all the episodes more than once!

My sister (a med student) kept nagging me about Bones since the show aired for the first time in Greece. I live in the UK, and I decided to watch the 3rd season only last January (yep, I know it's not an orthodox way to watch a series) and I got stuck!!! I'm a scientist myself and I just loooove Brennan. Plus, DB is hot ;) I just can't wait for Season 5!!!!

My mom got me watching this show about the middle of S4. Now we watch it every day, and we've both seen every episode at least 3 times each.
We always get each other hooked on things... I got her hooked on Gilmore Girls, she got me hooked on Bones. I got her hooked on Twilight, she got me hooked on CSI.
