Bones and Fringe make Compelling Thursdays

Sort-of great article on why Bones and Fringe make for great Thursday entertainment. There really aren't any spoilers in the piece, so read away.

What do you think of this statement?

I've come to terms with "Bones," seeing what the drama truly is - a romance. It used to bother me that Brennan's forensic scientist continually wound up in all these life-and-death situations. It just wouldn't happen. Once I checked my brain at the door, I truly began to enjoy it. I can see why 10 million tuned in each week.

you need to be seeking fantasy to really 'get it'

This whole review irritated me. First of all, I'm sooooo sick of the Moonlighting references. Bones and Moonlighting are different shows with different writers and different characters, and they aired 20 years apart!! What went wrong with one show and one audience two decades ago does not mean it will also happen with Bones!

I don't know why he thinks Bones requires him to check his brain at the door. Because it's a character-driven romance? I don't really understand his comment before that, either. Brennan's been in maybe, what? Two or three life-or-death situations in four years? Sometimes I wonder if some of the reviewers are watching the same show I am.

I'm so glad you noticed that as well! That statement really irked me! I think the show is very intelligently written and that he is missing a great deal by giving himself a temporary labotomy!

@Stephanie - I totally agree, the Moonlighting comment totally wound me up and it's simply not true, getting them together, would (IMHO) give the show a whole new dynamic, andf HH is totally capable of delivering if he wants to, from the odd episode I saw of Judging Amy, he managed to write her managing a relationship succesfully.

(Are you the same Stephanie who posted on Bones Spoilers last week? - if so I wrote you a reply BTW)

Yeah, that was probably me, haha. Sometimes this blog has the info first, and sometimes the Bones Spoilers one does, so I frequent both :)

I've always gotten why the shows are compared. I just think the frequency at which they're compared is too much. I feel like they've been compared SO much, it's going to be like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Like, everyone's been telling us for years that Bones is going to completely fail when Booth & Brennan finally get together, and since so many people have been telling us that, that's exactly what's going to happen because that's what everyone (including, apparently, the network) thinks will happen. And obviously, as you pointed out on the other blog, there were many other problems with Moonlighting, but, of course, no one talks about that. Everyone just blames it on the couple being together.

I agree that this particular show could probably pull it off, and the relationship with these characters would give the show a whole new dynamic. I understand where all the Moonlighting talk is coming from (and the if they couldn't do it, why should any other show be able to?) but I think the comparisons sometimes have a harmful affect, so I really wish they'd cut it out.

I second that about S4 :'(

Unfortunately, I can't do it with Bones, I don't want to have to do it with Bones :(

@Petit Chat I kind of agree with you :( I don't know if I'm frustrated with the journalist for saying that or not.The thing is,one of the reasons I loved Bones so much from the beginning was that I DIDN'T HAVE TO "check my brain at the door" to enjoy it,unlike many many other shows out there. But season 4,I started having to do it more frequently than I ever thought would be possible for Bones... :'( And,as you say,I don't want to have to do that with Bones...
Keeping my fingers crossed for Season 5...
