Grumble Grumble Grrr Argh

Why? Why? Why? This is such a huge headache and really frustrating for Americans...

Bones premiers in the US on Thursday September 17th but begins on Wednesday September 16th in Canada. Again. For the season.

Hooray for everyone in the world but the US?

Thank you for the link, Julia.

Wendy,I discovered this on YT about an hour ago..I posted it on LJ but I thought you might want to check it out too. It's not strictly Bones related but it's definitely a surpise! It seems David Boreanaz is not the only one in the cast of Bones that has played a vampire... ;)

I love the British show TopGear and understand that it takes months, or more, for new episodes to show on BBCAmerica. I would never expect to get them before Britain!

I'm pissed about the Canadians getting it early, too. It's not that I don't like Canadians (I do like them. HH is one, too) but I am a little afraid it might hurt the ratings. We should launch a campaign to get all Bones fans that watch it early and are a 'Nielsen' family to make sure they watch it again when it airs in the US. Can one even estimate by how much the ratings go down (if they do?)...

well, at least we only have to wait a day. And Hart Hanson is Canadian, so the country did provide us with our favorite show runner. :-)

That link is awesome with Emily as a Vampire. That would be funny for Hart to do something with DB and ED as vamps together. Maybe a Halloween episode.

I don't know if the early airing really effects ratings or not. The Nielsen family is only about 5000 households. How many of those really watch it early online - and if you had a Nielsen meter in your home and was a Bones fan, it would be natural to watch it live I think.

Hart has mentioned that the ratings for Bones is even higher in Canada than in America. I hope that means many more years of Bones. :-)

I'm definitely not a vampire person, but that clip was hilarious! Thanks, Jenny.

This is kind of weird and irritating that Canada gets them first, but...it is only one day. I'm not sure it would hurt the ratings, though. Only the impatient die-hard fans will stay up until 2 or 3 AM to watch online early, and those people (like me...I did that a few times last year after I discovered it was possible) are probably likely to watch again live for a second viewing.

I'm not complaining about it airing a day earlier but I see your point. However, FOX Network is the one to blame and no one else. Unfortunately, it will make the episode discussion much more difficult - some of us will have it watched online or live on Canadian TV while the US-fans will wait for their airing. I much prefer it when we have all the same timeline so that nobody spoils anything by accident.

Wendy, there's a poll done online where Bones fans can get to vote their 10 most favourite episodes of all seasons of Bones.I thought you might want to post it here?I already voted!

This Canadian fan isn't complaining! Wednesday is the only night that I don't work nights so I was sad to see the show move to Thursdays. I pledge to keep my mouth shut about spoilers so the rest of the fans can see it like I can!

It doesn't bother me to who gets to see it first, just as long as I get to watch it. For discussions, just don't start until Friday.

NO WAY!!!! for once, for the tv, its better living in canada!!! :D

I can't see it hurting the ratings because last time I check Canadian channels are not factored into the ratings. Ratings are based on US viewings on network channels.

oh boo hoo my heart bleeds. Poor you, you have to wait ONE DAY. Thats SUCH a long time, how can you stand it.
Please, stop whining. In Australia we wont be seeing it until next year. We only just finished season four last sunday.
America gets pretty much everything first, whether it be movies or books or tv shows. I cant believe that you are actually throwing a tantrum because you didn't get your way just for once.

sorry to you all, but being an aussie myself, im kinda in the same mind as anna
at least you start the season THIS year
dont know what i would do if i couldnt watch it online:D

Yeah, if it helps you. Us aussies just finished season 4.
Doubt we'll be seeing season 5 until at least june next year....

Well,if it makes you feel any better I don't know if they'll ever show Bones on tv again here,or when that will be! :( They showed Seasons 1-3 last summer, one episode every night Mon-Fri(that was the cool part) BUT no S4 this summer or any news on it.Nothing! If we didn't have the internet to rely on I wouldn't be able to watch it AT ALL!So one day seemes minuscule to me,compared to that.
Of course I can understand how Americans might feel or the concern about the ratings but this has been discussed so much that I think if you live in the US and you are a real fan you know you'll have to turn the tv on on Thursday, even if you couldn't wait and gave in to downloading/watching the episode. So I guess there won't be a real problem...

Actually, Anna, my main complaint is the headache as a Bones blogger. I don't care that I see it a day later than 1/2 the people, truly. Even before I had an infant I was not at all tempted to try to watch it online.

I hate that it fractures the online community into seeing it a different times, and the fact that it makes it impossible to read Twitter or maintain any semblance of non-spoiler discussion in everyone's excitement about what happened before it even airs in the country that produced it. Hence my assertion about the 'headache'....

Stephanie said...

I'll agree with Wendy about what it does to the online community. That's a concern for a lot of US fans. I didn't even think about avoiding Twitter on Wednesday nights now. I had the end of season 4 ruined because I was on the Bones IMDB page, looking up a season 2 guest star or something, when I noticed the first topic on the discussion board was titled "Who are you? WHAT?!" Well, it didn't take a genius to figure out what that was referring to, and the episode had just barely aired in Canada.

And America gets everything first because we produce it. TV shows and other forms of entertainment are one of our biggest exports (we learned that in my economics class a few years ago,) so it's just really unusual when another country gets our products before we do.

I understand the frustration for the US fans, but since i'm canadian... Yeah!! Anyway, it doesn't make a huge difference for me since i'm used to watch bones on Fox Channel. This year i'll just watch all episode twice!

But you all said you're might be spoil before the epidose aired in your country... usualy the entire world except the US is spoil by online community because the show is not aired the same day of yours...

Wendy said...

Oh if I had my way everyone would see it on the same night, trust me. It's not "waaaaaaaa, someone took away my fun". It's "God, this is frustrating and annoying and a pain in the rear and doesn't even make any sense!"

Is there any way we can have earlier discussion posts this season? I'm Canadian, and I always want to talk about it so badly right after it airs, but don't want to spoil it for anyone. This is my favourite place to talk about Bones! It's not a huge deal, because I usually watch it Thursdays, too (although I miss most of the discussion due to time zones). But it was just frustrating to come here all excited after the episode, and then remember that I can't talk about it yet.

So you have to wait a day for it. I have no idea when the UK gets it. All i can hope for is we get it 2weeks after you guys. Which means i have to try to avoid this site for two weeks so i don't get tempted to download it early and spoil it.

Thats a point actually, anyone know when Sky1 starts showing season 5?

I think it's Thursday 8th October, 9pm on Sky1.

Thanks! Bit shit were that far behind.
