UNC Chapel Hill rates Procedurals

The UNC Chapel Hill newspaper blog has a full list of TV show procedurals, breaking down the ones to try, ones to discard and the ones to keep (with some in-betweens). Guess which show tops the keepers list?

CSI? nope

NCIS? nope (though it's a close 2nd)

Bones is the keeper of all keepers, according to this author.

If “NCIS” is the best of CBS’s procedural dramas, “Bones” is the best procedural, period. Like “NCIS,” “Bones” has found that success lies in capitalizing on the supporting cast. The audience can appreciate every character on “Bones” because they are well written and amusing, and somehow manage to make terms like “calcium hydroxylapatite” pertinent to us. By focusing on the characters and their relationships, the hour feels more personable than any that CBS brings us. Plus, there’s always the guarantee of gross-out shots of decaying bodies!

The main draw of the show, however, is the sexual tension between Brennan (Emily Deschenal) and Booth (David Boreanaz), both of whom work the longing stare and hidden smiles well enough to create the best will-they-won’t-they dynamic this side of Ross and Rachel.

Bottom line: If you watch one procedural this season, let it be “Bones. (Just don’t watch while eating dinner. You will lose your appetite.)

I couldn't agree more with these sentiments. I like Bones the best bc it is more character driven....and I love all the characters. As a big fan of Friends' Ross & Rachel, I always thought of B & B as having that kind of chemistry. I would love to see them together but I also love them the way they are...so I guess I'm torn.

It says waht it has to say. I just love when HH, ED, DB and the crew get the recognition they deserve.

Seems like 'Bones' is finally getting the credit it deserves!... After 5 seasons!, Awesome right? I think the show is havin' their best moment. And I'm so happy for all of them. Because if there's a show these days that deserves all the recognition.. That will be 'Bones'! :)

Bones all the way, baby!

My 12 year old sister - who grows ever more exasperated with my Bones obsession - loves CSI. I've tried watching a few episodes of CSI NY and I tried to like it, but I couldn't. It wasn't even because of the characters or the cases, I couldn't even pay attention to them because the camera work was just really irritating: unneccesary zooming in and out of just a couple of feet; fast switching from one person's face to another's; once I saw an interrogation of a suspect shown through a flashback, even though it had just happened a couple of minutes ago - why couldn't they just show it normally?

I don't know if this is the case for all episodes, but it seemed to be for the ones I watched.

I've seen a bit of NCIS, but it was in French, so that didn't really help.

In no universe did I ever think a little blog post for a UNC magazine would make it onto my favorite blog about one of my favorite shows!

Thank you guys for showing your appreciation. I love getting the word out there about our show :D

Sonya! That is amazing! I can't remember which, but either Hart Hanson or Stephen Nathan have posted a link to the article on twitter.
