The End in the Beginning... How Do Hints of the Alt-Reality Show Now??

As many are starting to notice, events that occurred in "The End in the Beginning" at the end of Bones Season 4 are starting to show up in Season 5 episodes.

Let's use this post to start a list. I'll add it to the short list on the left and we can keep it updated as new ones show.

Thank you, Cheryl, for the email suggesting this post.

Allow me to start:

S5 Ep:1. Harbingers in the Fountain

Angela walks into Brennan's office with the anxiety filled expression "akward...akward, very akward!"

BB Shipper said...

meant 'Awkward' ... I did that 3 times incorrectly... Now that was awkward :0/

Great idea for a post!

In A Night at the Bones Museum, Brennan reaches out to fix Booth's tie.

This may be a stretch, but the three piece suit that Booth wears in Dwarf in the Dirt, reminded me of the three piece suit that we see in End in the Beginning.

well in the Dwarf in the Dirt, Booth was wearing a vest, if i recall he wore one in EitB.... i liked it..lol
it was like Jane's from the Mentalist's look :)

S5 Ep:6 Dwarf in the Dirt

Gordon Gordon talking to Sweets and referring to Booth as 'Agent B' - In EiTB Booth's dream character was called 'Mr B'

@Ellen - no I dont think the vested suit was a stretch, I think its also a valid connection - Booth has never worn anything like that before

MnM said...

..and Booth did say he missed the clothes.
His clothes...that's one thing he has control over and can "bring to life" from his dream-- unlike, his relationship with Bren.

Off topic: Can I just say how much I love Booth's wardrobe so far this season? The leather jacket, the fbi t-shirt, the vest, the button down navy shirt...
*sigh* He looks hot.

n2seeleybooth said...

How about Booth saying " I would kill for you"
Booth saying I would know if she loved me vs I would know if she was cheating on me ?

1)Someone on a Fox message board suggested that Hodgins' "Murder most foul"= murder most fowl= The Tough Man in the Tender Chicken.

2)Vaziri didn't have an accent in the dream, and we found out in Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood that he doesn't have one in reality either.

3)Clark mentioned Cain and Abel in the dream; Dr. Wyatt mentioned Cain and Abel in The Dwarf in the Dirt.

Yaay! Thx Wendy :D I agree with all the posts so far. I went back & checked (yes I'm addicted. Your point?): the vest in the end in the beginning has a bluer tint the the front & the back is a slightly different colour as well. But a vest is DEF new for Seeley. And hot ;) Then again, it's not the vest that makes him hot;) Will post if I think of anything else later, since I'm not really supposed to be on this site at the moment;)

In the finale there were a few humorous remarks made by Bones and now we have Bones the other night trying out "joshing around" and telling jokes - also, she did so when she said she would be Booth's village of "800 or less" -

In the finale, she joked about how they were a pretty interesting couple because people thought he was a murderer and her a cheater and she said it with the same smile and grin as the last episode.

I don't think the vest has anything to do with the Mentalist - t his show has a great audience they don't need to copy from from another show. I agree that Botth's choice with the vest is a throwback to the finale.

I can't remember the last line of Bones' story in the finale but it seemed a bit similar to the very last line Gordon Gordon said - something about taking wings/angels? Will have to go back and check. I know GG said "giggling angels" but can't remember her line.

I'm hoping we get past this sad/homesick Booth because he has seemed lethargic to me this whole season and I'm hoping that is the reason - I want kick butt Booth back baby!

Wow Bones fan are sooo paying attention to everything!!!I agree with everything that's been posted(I hadn't realised one or two so thanks!) apart from the one about Booth's leather jacket.Booth was wearing a leather jacket when he was off duty before the coma. The first example that instantly springs to mind is the last scene of Judas on a Pole(since I almost know the epi by heart by now!)but it could have started even earlier-I'm not sure...

olivia said...

Ok I have three- and forgive me if these are previously mentioned:
1) "Grow a set"- Stewie then GG
2) When Bones takes off Booth's tie in Tender Chicken- another tie moment
3) In tEitB- Jared says to Booth, "you think everything you feel is true"...and the references to "truth" in season 5. That one may be a bit of a stretch.
I love this game :-)

@ Olivia

well, really, I'm just copying s'thing Olivia noticed & posted under The Dwarf in the Dirt ep discussion:

"Has anyone else noticed Booth's repeated mentions of a lover's ability to "read" what is going on with their partner:

1) tEitB: "If something was wrong between us I'd know"
2) tDinD: "If you've been in love with another man for 10 years your husband knows" and "I'd know if she loved me"."

(Tho, really, I think Booth is too close to this one to know if she loves him).

@ Courtney

A bit of what was said in TEITB at the end

You love s'one, you open urself up to suffering. That's the sad truth. Maybe they'll break ur heart. Maybe u'll break their heart & never be able to look at urself in the same way. Those are the risks. u see 2 ppl. You think they belong together but nothing happens. The thought of losing so much control over personal happiness is unbearable. That's the burden. Like wings, they have weight. We feel that weight on our backs. But they are a burden that lifts us. Burdens that allow us to fly.

Cheryl said...

Copying from Deepa Dev (comment posted under TDITD ep discussion)

"Did anyone else think that Booth's vest and GG's '...hereafter known as Agent B' - were totally references to TEitB?"

olivia said...

Ok this also may be a stretch, but I am just looking for this stuff now...in tNatBM, did anyone else think the line from the Mummy movie that Bones quotes could be a reference to tEitB:

"And I shall awaken memories of love, and crime, and death"

In TEITB, Cam called Brennan cold, and then when Brennan worried about it to Booth, he told her she was Iceland, cool to the touch and volcanos underneath...

In Harbingers in the Fountain, Angela excused Brennan to the psychic about her chilly exterior because she was warm underneath... and IIRC, later in Tough Man/Tender Chicken wondered how she could be friends with a cold Brennan.

Cheryl said...

I can't recall seeing Bren in any necklaces in TEITB. If she was wearing one, it would have to be s'thing small to escape my attn. She always had earrings tho, her rings & nail polish. This season, I've noticed a few scenes where her necklaces are less chunky or are absent all together.

Anonymous said...

Brennan's always wearing a long coat in this season-- her coa played a pretty big role in tEitB case. I wonder if one of them will get a bullet hole in it?

Looks like both B&B are liking their clothes from the finale :o)

The Dwarf episode had a man in love with his brother's wife and in the End in the Beginning, Jared Booth was in love with Bones - his brother's wife.

olives said...

Aha! I'm not the only bones/mentalist obsessed fan out there! I totally agree with all of these especially @courtney with the man in love with brother's wife!

Sweets played the keyboard in TEinTB in his gormogon band and didn't we learn in pain in the prodigy that he does indeed play the keyboard or at least can assemble one lol

I was so sure that episode was a hint that Jared and Angelia would hook up this season, but now seems i was so wrong. Just have to wait and see now if Max will have a Cell phone or not.

I rewatched DitD last night and noticed one more (if not previously mentioned). Booth and Bones standing side by side in the FBI hallway waiting for the victim's brother talking about how they are good at what they do, very similar to standing side by side at "The Lab" talking about how they are glad they are not crime solvers.

Sarah said...

I thought the following was very interesting:

In 'The End in the Beginning', Booth uses logic on Bones to comfort her:

Bones: I don't like people thinking I'm cold fish.
Booth: Look, if you were really a cold fish, you wouldn't care.
Bones: You used logic on me, that's sweet.

In the new episode of Season 5, 'The Goop on the Girl', Booth does the same thing again:

Bones: Max told me that being alone at Christmas means that nobody loves you. She's burying her son. Alone. On Christmas. I think that's heartbreaking.
Booth: I know when I say 'heartbreaking' you say that the heart is a muscle so it can't break, it can only get crushed.
Bones: Isn't it heart-crushing?

Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. :)

I apologise for writing 'mum' as opposed to 'mom' but being Australian it's not really in my nature to conform to the colloquialistic writings of another continent. :)

Anyone notice Booth's line in GotG about the bomber 'answering the call'?? In EitB Brennan checks with Booth to see if he's still going to 'make the call'. Just something I picked up - thought it could be linked :)

Cheryl said...

No, actually...missed that one. Hmmm...

olivia said...

In fact, i never really understood the "make the call" line in TEinB...???

Cheryl said...

I think it was a literal phone call related to the running of the club...maybe it had to do with booking an act. They never explicitly said.

olivia said...

@cheryl: Maybe it will come back at us this season...? Perhaps it has yet to be explained.

JL from Canada said...

@Oliva, @Cheryl "The Call" was definitely about Booth calling Motley Crue to play at the club because the context of the conversation was about not having a DJ and Booth allowing Sweets to audition. Brennan is ensuring he is still going to make the call the The Crue because she knows Sweets and his band aren't going to work for the club.

Cheryl said...

@JL
What? No faith in "Never Ending Summer"? lol.

olivia said...

@Cheryl- LOL! I'm looking at sweets in a whole new way! :-)

Cheryl said...

Because he's fantabulisticulous? ;)

Kamara said...

yeh, I definitely think 'the call' refers to Booth calling Motley Crue. This is so fun! Makes me pay evn more attention to detail in every episode! :)

One that goes both ways (a reference from previous events and a sign of things to come): Sweets and Daisy's impromptu liaisons in unorthodox locales. Previous event: Sweets and Daisy reconciling in his office after Sweets confronted her about being spotted by B & B in the Bridal shop in tCitC; Gormogon's music stirring amorous feelings in Daisy that she showed to Sweets in the lost & found of The Lab after Gormogon's audition in tEitB; Thing to come: Sweets and Daisy's reconciliation in the Jeffersonian storage facility in aNatBM.

Well,my mind must definitey be in the gutter, judging by what you are all thinking about "the call"!Because since I first watched the finale I thought "the call" was some kind of innuendo:

"You're made of soft spots. You're still going to make the call, right?"
"Off course I'm going to make te call,I'm not soft in *that*" (with a wink)

plus the fact that the conversation was repeated in the bedroom ("Are we having doubts?")

Now,that sounds to me like it could foreshadow Booth's marksmanship difficulties in Dwarf in the Dirt and the whole "phallic frustration" (if I remember GG's words correctly) behind it.

Judging by what you all think,my mind must have definitely been in the gutter...

chillip said...

possibly tangential, but brennan's manipulation of booth's ties seems to now parallel booth's use of fruit pies. regarding tie-ins to tEitB, there's been, what, four tie manipulations in season 5 so far.

Emily said...

I noticed one today! In the Proof in the Pudding, Hodgins has a map/plan of the Jeffersonian on a cloth/napkin.
In the S4 finale, Angela draws one for the victim on a napkin!! :O

jenny said...

100th epi!In the scene where the judge's car is examined and Booth and Brennan start arguing,he calls her a "cold fish".
In EitB Brennan says people think she's cold fish and she doesn't like that, and Booth assures her she's not cold fish, she's "Iceland" ;)

Now I'm wondering if this is Brennan's book(meaning she still remembers the moment bitterly)or Booth's interpretation/addition(meaning he feels guilty about calling her that, after all these years).Could be both...

Cheryl said...

Good one Jenny!

Now that we've had the Beginning in the End, someone should start up with a list again. There were quite a few references to tEitB

Emily said...

In 6x03, Booth finds out that Angela is pregnant by the fact that she doesn't drink wine anymore. And when he finds out, he says 'nooo!' in a disbelieving tone, and the whole thing is kinda similar to his finding out about Brennan's pregnancy in EitB. :D

Alison said...

Season 6 Episode 4, there is a "Science Dude" who films one of his shows with Brennan in her lab. At the end of the episode, we see a huge glowing sign in the background of this scene which says "THE LAB" just like in the Season 4 finale.

In The Beginning in the End Hodgins is eating a tower of wings, I don't remember where he was at the time but they are sitting...on his desk maybe?

Anonymous said...

The pile of wings can be seen in the finale as well as in the episode with the hoarder, a similar structure is seen slightly out of focus where Hodgins is working.
