Does anyone know what the song was featured in this episode? "where is the center of the mind" was a part of the lyrics

All i have to say is end scene... AWWWWW!

I wonder what Booth whispered to Bones after her speech. He was "hiding" behind his glass like his does when he is trying to be subtle.

Anonymous said...

Oh snap. Settin' the pieces in place...1st she warms up to the idea of children...then Booth realizes he's in love with her...aaaaaand now she believes in love.

Part of me is like "OOC! OOC!"

but the shipper in me is channeling her inner Angela and being very happy.

Rolywa said...

That end scene was a glimpse of the future couples! Loved Brennan being worried about Booth's new logic about love! Great character growth...the case was fine but the Jared story line made the episode worth it.

Maggy said...

I don't think its OOC. Her character is growing and changing... I think its awesome how they've been learning from each other. Besides, of course Bones believes in love. I am almost positive she realized this in the season 4 finale.

Which I really did like this epsisode... REAL cute scene at the end...

BUT I still feel like we're in limbo here with Bones and Booth. I mean NOTHING new is happening! Where is the wooing??? I want more than pizza :P

I really loved Vincent in this episode. Normally I find insecurity appaling, but something about his ability to express his insecurity showing his security with the others in the lab...I know that is Bass ackward...and his attempt to channel his random ramblings was very endearing as well....

Mary said...

The end scene was just PERFECT! I also liked how Jared had difficulty explaining what role Bones played in his bro's life (partner, friend..) I don't think that what Bones said was OOC; she still said it in a very Bonesy way. They are def. setting the stage for a B&B relationship. The question is when!

Amanda said...

Miss Mary: my brother refers to Vincent as "the one with the information Tourette's".

Some of the other interns are:

The emo kid (bro's favorite)
The uptight kid (Clark)
Wendell (the only one bro knows by name)

To quote Wendy "Blurring lines, blurring lines". When Bren found the arrow head at the dentist's ex-lover's house, the guy turns to Booth & says "What did she just say?". Booth translates for him. Remember when he would have been just as lost?

And then Bren, honestly confused as to y Booth's logic applied to her criminal father should not also apply to Jared's ex-escort gf. Only she could have gotten to him so effectively & I think it's her innocence. She has no agenda. She really is confused & if it weren't for her trusting Booth on matters of the heart she really would not have a r'ship with Max at all.

I like it when Booth explains Bren in a happy insider tone "Yea...she's into toasting now. She's really good at it.".

& I LOVE how Bren kicks the wrong bro under the table & how that allows Jared to explain Bren's intentions, endearing her to Padme & clearly expressing her opinion to Booth.

And how perfect is it that she toasts abt Booth in the Founding Fathers in a truthful & positively flattering way while still keeping her eye on the facts as she knows them, given that this is where she toasted Booth in CMITML? And that the last time she hurt Booth because she believed what Jared said & Jared was here for this toast tonight as well? It's like Bren's Toast Reveals More of her Heart Toward Booth, Take Two. Love it!

PS I wonder if being with Padme will make Jared grow up so I can like him?

I LIKED Jared tonight. :) I'm sitting there thinking, how weird is this? Both Jared AND Brennan later in the car are calling Booth on his un-Boothyness. If you watch again, really listen to what Jared says ABOUT BOOTH before he storms out. It's good, and spot on.

Ditto for Brennan and her stomach ache over Booth's sudden change in his belief system. So Brennan ... and again spot on.

Sometimes our Mr FBI Guy just needs a kick in the head. Or under the table. :)

We continue to see how much they both have learned from each other and have grown so close. She was feeling physically sick when she worried that he was not demonstrating his normal belief system. She definitely got him on the right track this time.
Did you notice the sweet and patient look he gave her when reprimanding her for talking about Jared's girlfriend in front of Sweets?
He finished her toast again just as he did at Christmas. When she started talking about Booth and how she didn't believe in love when she first met him, it was clear she had changed her mind and now believes in love because of him.
I liked the scenes in the lab with the rest of the team, also, on this case.

My girlfriend and I just got done watching and we both said the same thing after Brennan gave her toast. We both looked at each other and smiled and said she just told Booth she loved him. Most of her speech supposed to be for Jared and Padme but her eyes for the most part was on Booth. Even when her gaze wasn't on Booth whenever she said LOVE she turned to him.

One discussion we did have was why she was upset about Booth and Jared fighting. My gf thought Brennan was upset about how Booth thought of Padme's past. Her thought was that if Booth was against her sexual past, how did Booth judge Brennan's sexual past considering how open she had been about her sexual past and thoughts of sex in general. I countered she was more upset because she thought Booth was being hypocritical about family issues considering the work he did to get Brennan to accept Max.

this is PERFECT. Its gone past sexual tension and flirting and the show is really getting Booth and Bones to this intimate, beautiful, same-page level. Not too long ago getting them together would have been ludicrous because their views on love, dating etc were so radically different. After episodes like this, they are really becoming truly compatible. its AWESOME!

didnt dig the total lack of Angela though.

That was a great end scene!

I really like how Brennan reacts to Booth's un-Boothiness in this episode... When he falters in his formerly rock-solid belief system, she is the one that steps in and reminds him - once again, she's guiding him back to his former self, like she has done many times this season.

But, beyond that, I like that she opens up and admits what powerful effects his belief system has had on her life: first with her relationship with Max, and then with her belief in love. The fact that she is able to say those things so openly shows real growth and caring on her part - and I think it likely means a great deal to Booth.

I'm enjoying the line-blurring between the two of them this season - whenever Booth is uncertain, Brennan is there to help/counsel him in her own way, showing more and more heart in the process. A very cool character progression!

What a beautiful little episode! I didn’t really expect there to be such character development this week, given all of the development we saw last week, but I’m SO pleasantly surprised. It makes sense that Booth—after trying to follow Brennan’s lead last week, seeking the truth even if it might hurt him—would try to do it again, doing what he called the “rational” thing by trying to dig up information on Padme. Of course, we all know it wasn’t rational; it was motivated by Booth’s desire to look out for his brother. I really don't think his "sudden abandonment of a belief system" was in any way coma related; Booth just has a blind spot when it comes to Jared, and he always has. He loves his brother, but he’s willing to do just about anything to make sure Jared is making good choices in life, especially after his realization (at the end of Conman) that he needed to step in and end Jared’s drinking problem. Booth always steps into Jared’s life to protect him, which in this case means protecting him from what Booth sees as an unhealthy relationship. In his own life, Booth would be willing to ascribe to the “love conquers all” mentality, but he doesn’t trust Jared to be mature enough to choose a girlfriend who is actually deserving of that type of forgiveness.

I love that it took Brennan to point that out to him. She pointed it out with a beautiful combination of “brains and heart”—her comparison between Max and Padme was 100% logical (and very accurate), but it also came from a place of real emotional vulnerability. Booth’s inconsistent logic actually made Brennan’s stomach ache because she has reached a point where she accepts Booth’s belief in love. I don’t even think she herself realized that before this episode. She has trusted it and acted on it before, forgiving her dad for his crimes, but I think it wasn’t till her stomach turned inside out that she realized how much she NEEDS Booth to keep believing in the power of true love. For one thing, it’s Booth-y. For another thing, it’s a belief she has begun to base her own life on, with her dad and Russ, and she needs to know that she hasn’t been wrong to trust him on this issue. But it’s about more than just family. She has told Booth in the past (Cinderella in the Cardboard) that she wants to believe in love, to lose herself in another person. I think Brennan wants that person to be Booth. Brennan needs Booth to believe in love because she wants to accept the fact that she loves him. She knows what she feels for him and wants to define it as love. She is SO CLOSE! I can hardly wait.

Kudos, KM! Really beautifully put :)

I thought perhaps with Booth checking up on Jared's gf that it was partly out of his usual brotherly over-protectiveness, but possibly out of jealousy as well. When they first get together he's looking at the two of them and it just kills him that Jared has the kind of relationship he wants and doesn't have yet.

Unrelated note although some of the look-we're-breaking-stereotypes parts of the gay football player storyline were a bit self-congratulatory, I did love the scene when Booth questions the other player in the interrogation room. I love the interrogations that really bring out the vulnerability in people and give us such an honest moment of humanity even from some character we're never going to see again.

K-
I had the same, hmmm I think there's a wee bit of jealousy going on. Jared finds love and is ready to get married so quick when Booth & Brennan have been side stepping their love for so long.

I had a hard time following this case, but I still liked the episode

Anonymous said...

Am I the only one who thinks the case was somewhat disinteresting and all over the place? There seems to be an overall lack of case interest, with neither the victim nor the killer garnering sympathy from me. There were too many distractions with the murder weapon and millions of suspects. Granted the last scene was marvelous (and in fact propelled Booth and Brennan's relationship more leaps and bounds in one ep, than in the entire previous season), but I felt that scene was the only saving grace. Otherwise, I would have spent time texting, scratching my ass and dumbly staring at the screen for an entire 44 minutes. On another note, I was happy to see Jared back and found Mr. Nigel Murray's anxiety over Brennan's approval to be quite endearing.

TRUTH

Courtney said...

I didn't pick up jealousy on Booth's part - I thought his reaction to the lightning speed engagement was - as someone else said - a reaction to what he considers his brother's less than solid decision making skills. He's been protecting him all his life and gotten himself in trouble - I think it is just an automatic lifelong response for Booth to shield him.

I understand that the relationship between B&B has changed - but, that doesn't mean they have to completely kill off the sexual tension -

Just because they have gotten so meshed and connected to one another doesn't mean that the as yet unsatisfied sexual desire has vanished.

They could (and should in my opinion) re-ignite some of that tension because right now I actually see them as nothing more than really close friends.

It is not believable to me that B&B shouldn't still be smoldering no matter how much blurring between heart and brain as occurred.

My rant and please, Mr. Boreanaz, please put some weight back on...you look good as always but with more weight on you? Yowza! (my opinion of course).

Bonesfanatic said...

Good episode from a BB point of view. Case a bit of a non event.

I definitely felt I saw a hint of jealousy cross Booth's face in the first scene with Jared.

Loved the last scene. Loved the fact that Bones is now prepared to declare in public that she can believe in love - of course quite clear that this is because of what she feels for Booth.

Re DB, I agree, why is he so skinny all of a sudden? His weight loss is very noticeable. In my opinion, he looks much better with the extra pounds.

The only downside with the episode for me was that it does feel a little like we are treading water.

I know this emotional development from Bones is kind of necessary for them to get together but I really think we also need to ramp up the sexual tension. I really think some kind of fight would be helpful. Otherwise I am not sure they are ever going to face their real feelings.

I really want to feel like they are desperate to jump each other "bones" (like the last scene in the Night in the Museum")as well as loving each other!

Regarding those who feel more UST is needed: I'm wondering if a potential love interest for Booth wouldn't rock the boat a little bit. It's been a while since he's had one and Brennan's been getting away with murder. Hacker? Really?

TRUTH

bonesfanatic said...

I have thought for ages that would be great as Brennan needs to be shaken up a bit. I can just see the heart to hearts with Angela now.

Alas, I think we have gone too far now that Booth has admitted he is in love with Bones and he has accepted he has to be patient.
For him to give up with that approach, something would have to crack first - like he makes his feelings clear to Bones and she rebuffs him. Then he may turn his attention elsewhere only for Bones to realise what she is missing out on. Hey, actually, that would be kind of good actually, get things out in the open but keep the angst.

Of course, the best thing would be for them just to get it on but I don't see the nervous "powers that be" doing that this season!

Did anyone else notice that this episode echoes some of the older ones in having two (!) great B&B car scenes, the discussing of very personal topics while trying to figure out cause of death (this used to drive Clark nuts, remember?) and great chemistry between Hodgins and an intern which we haven't seen since Zack left? Something's very right with the script-writing!

And I agree with Miss Mary that Vincent was brilliant in this episode .. none of the wooden-intern stuff we've seen before!

Looking forward to the rest of the season--with the great B&B scene at the end which was so masterful in its naturalness (did you notice how Booth had absolutely no idea at the beginning what Brennan was going to say??), it can only get better!

olivia said...

Ok so admit it, how many times did you watch Bones' "love" toast :)

The area of progession, on Booth's part, that I am most impressed with, is he really appreciates now Bone's honesty. He just smirks when she blurts out the unspoken obvious! And the attempted kick under the table- awesome!!!

Tracy said...

I loved it! The case was a bit of a nothingy one for me, but I loved the character development. Favourite bit, apart from the toast scene, was when Booth said about the background check that it's "something you do for people you care for" (or something similar i forget now) and Bones said "so does that mean you check the men I date"?
Just spoke volumes to me bout her knowing how much she means to him.

One quick (probably very daft( question. If next weeks ep is 14 and the 100th ep is 16...where does number 15 come? Are we not getting that til april too? I had a look on tv.com but it just skips over that ep so I was confused.

@ Tracy:

As far as I can tell, ep. 15 won't be airing until April 1st.

I like to think that, after Brennan's toast, Booth said something (behind his glass) to the effect of, "You know we're gonna talk more about this later...be prepared."
Fanfic anyone?

Anonymous said...

I like how, after the toast, both Booth brothers lean in to whisper something to their significant others, kind of as matching gestures...

Booth is doing the same thing with Brennan as Jared is with his fiancee - a subtle little gesture that again emphasizes how couple-y B&B have really become :)

Fay said...

Somehow I don't see Booth's running background check on Jared's girlfriend and all his attitudes towards their fast relationship are being un-Boothy (or abandoning his own belief system for that matter - he still believes in love, he just doesn't believe Jared could find it, so fast, and with a former escort). That in fact is very consistent with his previous way of dealing with personal life.

First, he's over-protective, with his little brother and with anyone he cares about. Remember he did background check on Rebecca's boyfriends? And we all know he totally did check out Brennan's dates too! Second, I do think he did the background check on Padme a little bit out of jealousy. As the recap on Zap2it (http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight/2010/01/bones-mixes-things-up-a-little.html) points out, "the psych major in me needs to point out that Booth clearly wants something to be wrong with Jared's fast-tracked relationship to excuse Booth's inaction with Brennan". Third, I have to say that Booth has always been quite judgemental and hypocritical when it comes to certain issues (and I say that lovingly, that's part of the character's charm!), so it doesn't surprise me at all how he reacted to the whole Jared situation.

What's really different here, is that Brennan (and Jared) called him out on it, and it's Brennan who made him realize that the whole point really should be letting Jared make his own judgement and giving him his blessing. Brennan has good influence on him!

Back to the other parts of the episode, they have the science aspect (love the explanation on how the skull cracks from inside-out, by the way), (somewhat) tackling gay issues, plus Vincent's need for approval. I think I get what they're trying to do in each of these plot-lines. But somehow they don't gel well together for me. For me, without the end scene, this would be a "meh" episode. But then again, not very episode can be as epic as Proof/Pudding.

historynut - please no kicking in his head, he's just had brain surgery ;-)

I gasped after the end scene and kept asking to myself: did she just admit she loved him? It sounded exactly like that. After this epi, I'm pretty sure she does and is aware of it on some Bonesy-level (if she was conducting an objective experiment on herself, observing her own behavior, would she conclude that she's in love with Booth? :))

Hurray for seeing Angela and Bones discussing love issues and Booth again (sorry for Ange however for not being a genius in Bren's eyes).
And loved the Hodgins-Nigel-Murray duo too, which only proves to me how good a person Hodgins is.

No need for me to re-word what you all said on the BB aspect, I just love how the two of them are slowly becoming one (and am happy for Booth to finally get some hope from Bones)!

olivia said...

@gabriel- I agree completely- I loved the look in Booth's eyes during the toast. It was pure hope! (and patience)!!!!!

Miss Mary said...

I was so dolled up over Vincent that I didn't comment on BB. Love their dynamic in this episode, not forced but yet propelled them forward. Th
There was something lovely about her true honest concern (resulting in a tummy ache!) not only for the Booth boys but also for what it means to the relationship with her father.

We can...and should...and must forgive the rrors in judgment of our loved ones...errors like drawing a rediculous line perhaps????

Anyone know if Jared and Padme are sticking around, they may be just the kick in the pants these two need....

Another great episode. And I even felt that way before the final scene! It seems I've gotten almost everything on my wish list now - good case, real characters among the suspects, Angela&Brennan scenes, interesting science, season 1 Brennan bone checking, more Hodgins, better clothes for Brennan. (Really liked the return of the white coat because seriously, who can afford a new coat every week.)
Thanks show!

It looks like The "hope and patience" that Gordon Gordon suggested to Booth is paying off.

I loved Mr. Nigel-Murray in this episode too!

Also, after the end scene my husband said "they are already a couple, this is ridiculous!" I totally agree, the only thing missing is the sex!

Last night was the four year anniversary of the night my girlfriend and I met. Between Brennan's speech about love being real and the speech Booth gave about making love versus "crappy sex" from the Death in the Saddle episode TNT ran the other day really helped an already romantic night. The writers of this show are sooooooo good lol.

I honestly love the old fashioned style of how B&B are progressing, building a relationship on knowing each other, knowing each other's hot buttons, the little glances towards each other like they're the only ones while in a crowded room. I love the sly knowing glances Jared and Padme gave each other. They knew Brennan wasn't talking about them she was talking about her and Booth.

Man I'm a softy lol.

R Malove said...

Normally not my thing to comment on epis, but I think I need to on this one :-) First, I think I was one of the few people who really liked the case in this one-mostly because we saw a return TO the case! Most of this season the case has kind of been swept under the rug, so I was glad to see it front and center again. And when Mr. Nigel Murray is good, he is very, very good. And, I think, served as a much needed kick in the pants to Brennan, who used to praise Zack all the time but hasn't bonded with any of the new interns even though he's been gone how long now? It's a reminder that she's working with people, not robots.

I see them bringing back some of Brennan's less endearing traits even while cultivating her new ones, and I think it's a good thing. It does us good to remember who Brennan was before they started playing with her character. Remember the scene in...okay, can't remember which show it was without looking it up, but she was trapped with the crazy doctors and just ran until Booth saved her? Does anyone else remember Brennan kicking serious ass in season 1? She's not soft, and I think we forgot that for a little while.

That said, I loved her anxiety over Booth's non-acceptance of Padme. I think he was being an untrusting older brother making sure his baby brother wasn't going to get taken for a ride. It was very non-Booth-like, however, and I'm glad he was called on it. Brennan's anxiety shows her understanding of Booth's non-rational behavior without realizing the logic behind it. In typical Brennan fashion, however, she saw it her way. His beliefs no longer fit into the way she saw him, and that scared her because she was basing many of her own life decisions and changing attitudes on him. That scared her, and the fact that she could say that was awesome.

I have to agree that Booth was jealous of Jared and Padme. He's still in love with Bones. He knows he's still in love with Bones. And he knows Bones isn't ready for him to be in love with her yet-may never be ready for him to be in love with her, although those of us on the outside looking in know better! He's doing his best to be okay with that, because it's better than walking away, but I have to agree that it had to hurt, watching his brother get so easily what he wants so badly. The time's coming when that bomb's going to blow, and it's going to be spectacular when it does!

R Malove said...

Oh, but the use of the word "hinky"? Soooo not cool Booth. That was jacked straight from NCIS. Abby, anyone?

KM said...

@ R Malove,
You make some really excellent points! Thanks for posting! I agree that Brennan's change doesn't have to be completely linear--she is figuring out how to relate to Booth, but that doesn't magically help her people skills with everyone, especially the interns. Zack never needed her praise (though he did love it), so she forgets that the interns still do. She is also still very afraid to attach herself emotionally to another assistant.

I, too, would like to see Brennan return to her butt-kicking ways, at least when it's necessary for saving her own life (like with the doctor--which, btw, was the season premiere, "Harbingers in a Fountain.") But I do like that Brennan has softened a bit from the Brennan of season one, who kind of wanted to kick people just because she could. She also realllyyy wanted that gun. Brennan has now come to realize the cost of taking a human life, and she has realized that she has Booth to protect her, so she no longer wants a gun so much. She also has less anger now, so she no longer needs to attack people with so much force. I like that transition. But I do agree that, in moments when her life is in danger, she should FIGHT. It's fun to see, and it's a testament to her strength.

I do have to say that, in my opinion, Booth's actions were perfectly in character. He's always so protective of Jared, and he's also jealous that Jared has what he wants. It makes sense that this situation would bother him. Booth wasn't rejecting his "love conquers all" mentality. He just didn't believe that Jared was capable of feeling a love so mature and all-encompassing and forgiving. But Jared has clearly grown up a lot, and his relationship with Padme seems healthy and honest. As soon as Booth realized that, he was on board.

I love that it took Brennan to point that out! As you mention, she wasn't exactly looking at the whole picture (or she would've seen the Boothyness in his desire to protect Jared), but she was looking at the part of the picture that mattered most to her: LOVE. Brennan believes in love now because she believes in what Booth has TOLD her about love. That's the only definition she knows, and just when she is starting to accept it, Booth temporarily sets it aside. I can see how his inconsistency would scare her--and I love that it did! You're right--a major explosion must be coming. It's going to be beautiful!

KM said...

Unrelated thought on this whole sexual tension thing: I love that the past few episodes have been more about meshing and blurring lines than "tension"--it's still there, of course, but we just don't see it, because we see them acting like friends. We look back on earlier episodes, where they seemed closer to skirting that line--where Booth got right into Brennan's face with little Jasper or Brainy Smurf--and our tendency is to think, "look at that tension. I don't feel that anymore, and yet supposedly Booth is in love now." It just occurred to me that Booth's new feelings are probably the REASON why we don't see as much tension. Booth was always able to do things that skirted the line between friendship and romance because his feelings for her weren't as strong. He could get into her face without being absolutely overwhelmed by the desire to kiss her. Now he can't. The last time their faces were that close (in "Night at the Bones Museum"), he actually looked like he would've moved in for the kiss if they hadn't been interrupted. He was definitely tempted. But Booth is determined to keep it slow ("hope and patience"!) so as not to scare Bones away. So he has to pull back. He has to act in accordance to this "just friends" boundary he has set for himself. He has to push those feeling away, because if he skirts that line like he used to, he knows he might push it too far. So what we see as a lack of UST is actually a lot MORE UST, but it just doesn't translate on television. Just something to think about...

Sexual tension is not something you can control - if you feel it, you feel it. It doesn't mean you have to act on it. They used to effectively let us see that tension. Of course, the relationship has changed after over four years and they are clearly into one another but, for me, I don't buy the kinda blah energy between them now - it is like they have been together for a long time as lovers and fire has diminished (as it want to do) from their sexual lives.

Watching some of the earlier episodes the last fews days and I can't help but feel that DB's energy is just different than even up to last year's finale. I personally don't attribute it to the brain tumor, more to the writing and directing.

I liked Booth when he was more animated - even, dare I say, a tad (not a lot) more goofy - like when he jumped in the air when the clown in the haunted house thing cackled at him.

It's hard to explain what I'm seeing - but, I have talked to a few friends who have also watched the show since the beginning and they too are seeing a different energy with Booth.

I also think the Booth character had more humor - I used to laugh at loud at some of Booth's lines and actions; now, I find the humor more in the other characters with Booth being more reactive to them.

Shep said...

I actually love kick-ass Brennan. To me that was Brennan. Not that I don't like her now, I just prefer the earlier Bren. I think Brennan's always known the cost of a human life - she's always valued human life highly. I think she should still ask for a gun, or Booth should give one to her without her asking - to show that he trusts her not to shoot anyone. Yes, Booth will always protect her but she wouldn't be Brennan if she didn't want to protect herself. Besides, Booth can't get all the but-kicking fun!

I'm quite late to the discussion - my brain was just too tired yesterday for me to write down everything I wanted to say.

liked this episode. We had another S1/2 moment with Brennan doing her bone-staring thing: yay! Although I wasn't keen on the music they used for that scene.

The B/B stuff was great. They really are learning from each other. However I'd rather they stopped actually saying that they are and just went with showing it. I didn't find it un-Boothy either, for him to run a background check on Padme - he used to for Rebecca's boyfriends. He was being usual over-protective, slightly judgmental Booth. I loved the car scene with Brennan and her 'stomach ache' and it was right of her to question Booth.

I also liked how they made Zigler more human instead of just standard suspect with motive, although I wasn't keen on the obvious, as K put it 'look-we're-breaking-stereotypes parts of the gay football player storyline'.

Loved Nigel-Murray and the experiment with Hodgins. However, I did miss Angela in this episode. I don't mean the H/A/W storyline type Angela, I mean Angela just being herself with her one-liners, which I can't seem to remember seeing in a while. I miss her brilliant lines sometimes 'so somebody gnawed on this arm like some kind of man-corn'. But one thing I am glad of: she said 'Sweetie....' :)

"I think she should still ask for a gun, or Booth should give one to her without her asking - to show that he trusts her not to shoot anyone."

I agree, also because if Booth really cares for/loves her & thus wants her to be safe, he should want her to be safe no matter who protects her, whether it be him, someone else or her ; he should want her to be able to protect herself if he really loved her, & not want to be the only one to do it cause it's impossible & thus dangerous & selfish.

Oh I forgot, I prefer the earlier Brennan too.

I agree with many of the comments here re the UST issue with B&B.

I do think that Booth is staying true to Gordon Gordon's counsel and is being patient with her...letting her work through her feelings before he puts it all on the line for them. I also agree that this doesn't mean that there's no sexual tension. There is (IMO) but its definately more reserved, less 'sparky' - for want of a better term. I love the sparky stuff but agree that if Booth flirted and pushed that side of their relationship more, then he might not be able to reign in his feelings if she showed even the slightest interest in taking things further.

And we know, for Booth, sex is about more than the physical act itself (at least it is with people he cares about - don't tell me that man hasn't had a one night stand at least once!)- therefore, I think he is trying to resist the call of his 'biological urges' for fear that he'll fall into bed with her, only to find that she's not ready to deal with the implications of that level of intimacy.

I'm of the mind that unless there's an undercover case (whoo hoo) or some kind of angsty plot twist (and really, if the writers throw in a love interest for either one of them, I think they'll have a fan mutiny on their hands) then this is the way their story will play out. Eventually, Bones will come round...and when she does it'll be huge! I kinda like the idea of Bones making the first move...thoughts anyone??? :)

A side note: are we to assume that Booth loved her before his coma, seeing as his feelings don't appear to have diminshed since his last brain scan?

I, too, have thought about Bones being the one to make the first move....remember how she went for it with Sully? Now that would be something!
They are so close and so in love that it's not realistic at all that both of them don't feel a strong urge to kiss or jump each others bones almost on a daily basis. We need to see that desire from Brennan demonstrated in some way because we know from the past that she really enjoys sex and considers it an important part of ones life. She HAS to feel that daily ...Booth is so hot and she loves him.
Btw....Booth did also check up on Hacker when he asked Brennan out. "40, never been married, etc."
And, yes, we are to assume he loved Brennan before his coma. We knew anyway....remember how sad he looked at the end of the epi about Brennan's book when Sully and Bones are kissing in her office? He was hurting then because he loved her.

I want to add to my post above @2.20 p.m. that even though I think Booth should resist jumping into bed with her without first talking about what this will mean for them. I DO think he should 'grow a set' and tell her that he loves her. I mean he's never given her a clear sign (and we all know she's no good at reading people and so the sign has to be pretty damn clear).

If I were Brennan I would be struggling to discern his actions. First he tells her that there's a line you can't cross (and then promptly sleeps with her boss), then he tells her that he loves her in a "professional, atta girl kind of way", all the while he flirts and tries to charm her. Man up, Seeley Booth, and quick!

I mean, we all see that he loves her and is struggling with it but how is she meant to know!

ceecee - thanks for your views re Booth's brain scan...I wonder if the writers will mention this again at some point.

I agree, we need to see more evidence of their attraction to each other. Esp from Brennan who has never been backwards in coming forwards.

I liked this episode!
All I want to add to this, is how much I loved Booth's line that "there are no rules, there's just life,ok? It's just life..."
I find it so true and I think that Booth has said so many beautiful things through the seasons...
I just remembered his "everything happens eventually, you just got to be ready for it". I really hope that the B&B realationship happens eventually... when they are both ready for it.Some time soon, hopefully!!!!

It's all going to be all right. They're going to be together. They know how each other feels about the other (I believe in my heart of hearts Brennan knows Booth loves her and not as Booth described after his brain surgery lol.)

No man has ever EVER hidden any big news or feelings from a woman with any degree of success. I do think and would enjoy seeing Brennan is going to have to make the first move. Booth had to have her at his marksmanship test. He is afraid to fail her in any way and right now he's got her on a high pedestal so high he's afraid he'll never be good enough for her.

Of course he is though. Team Booth all the way. :)

I agree with what Courtney said. I see a totally different Booth this season as well. It is hard to put a finger on it. It just seems as though I don't know maybe he has lost some of his zest for the show?? In an interview I saw around X-mas time he said something to the effect of; if this show ends, I will just start looking for my next show. Plus he has said he hopes Booth and Brennan never get together! I don't like to conjecture about ones personal life as I have no idea, but perhaps the weight loss everyone notices and his less than enthusiasm in this Seasons episodes....IDK, maybe he is unhappy?? I have been watching week after week hoping to see the sparky Booth of old, but I only continue to see half-Booth! Is it the writing?? At the end of the Proof in the Pudding when he and Sweets are walking out he makes some wild eye movement, funny and cute.........that is what I miss in him this Season, he has a knack for such great facial expressions.....where have they been?? I sort of agree that something needs to happen to shake things up. It is like watching an old, boring comfortably married couple now!!

I've been trying to figure out in what kind of setting the writers are going to have B&B get together or be more obvious about their love and i think that jared's wedding is a great setting for them to come to terms openly about what they have. it will bring back memories of angela and hodgin's wedding where they were left at the alter and there will be love in the air. i think that would be perfect for them. and for angela and hodgins too, if anything hasn't happened between them by that time. fingers crossed.

I agree with the comments on the new, more subdued Booth...

@anon 8:16, I'd like to believe it's a deliberate acting choice on DB's part, and not a result of a sudden lack of enthusiasm in his role (which would be rather sad!)

I'm pretty sure it's intentional - in The Dwarf in the Dirt, Angela tells Gordon-Gordon that Booth seems sadder, less happy-go-lucky, and blames it on homesickness for his 'dream-world.' So, in my mind, that's a solid explanation for the change in behavior. Also, he could have been concerned or preoccupied with Jared's situation this week, which led to a quieter demeanor.

Having said that, if this new Angsty Booth is all Brennan-related, then she needs to jump his bones STAT. I think a lot of the show's energy comes from the exuberance and optimism DB brings to his character, and it feels like something's missing when he's so blah :|

Hah, 'jump his bones.' Gotta love unintentional puns.

Is Booth an idiot or what nowadays? Where's that laughing and positive Booth who was jamming with Brennan when she sang Girls just wanna have fun near the end of season 3? Now he just stares and looks like there's nothing going on in his brain.

Still he could say that he felt that Padme was 'hinky' (I guess that was the word). After sitting in a cafe 10 minutes or so with Jared and her?

And then there's this Brennan who looks at him with bambi eyes and smiles like a sun. And he can't see anything! He must have some 'Anti-Brennan' contact lenses which prevent that kind of information to come to his eyes.

If I were Hodgins I'd say that they put a microchip to his brain that some unnamed FBI ADD can control.

is there a place where we can chat about all this with spoilers included????? the problem with my being addicted to spoilers is I know whats going on with B/B love and dating-wise in this season just enough so I feel like I cant comment on anything here without blurting something out!

On the left hand margin of the main page under "Posts of Note," there is a link that reads "Spoiler chatter" or something similar.
