Spoilers on OWB

This post has been a long time coming.

I wish I didn't have to make it.

One of the biggest things that keeps me motivated to keep OWB going strong is for the online crowd that dislikes spoilers. I am one of them. There are many places where spoilers are totally FFA and not hidden and that's great for those people who enjoy them. I still post them because I think everyone who loves them should still get them here if they want them.

But not everyone likes spoilers.

That is why you see me try to give warnings for every video, article, promo, description, etc as to its spoiler level. That is why I tell spoiler-phobes to stay away from comments on any post that is about spoilers. That is why I have GIANT RED WARNINGS telling you to PLEASE NOT SPOIL!

And now I am on the cusp of having to moderate all comments just because people cannot pay attention to very obvious requests to please not spoil. I know it is hard for some people to separate their current comments from what they already know is about to happen but, for many people on OWB, it is incredibly disrespectful if you don't.

If I start moderating comments, that means that on episode discussion nights, about 9 or 10, comments will stop until early the next morning and, effectively, so does the discussion.

I don't want that to happen.

That means that if you post this 3 paragraph commentary on the episode and then tack on 2 lines of obvious spoilers at the end, I will have to deny your comment and all that great stuff you typed will be lost.

That means that I will have to reject every single comment that has any spoilers if it is not on a spoiler-related post.

I do not want to do this, and I don't think you want me to do this either.

Here are the basic rules for spoilers on this blog:

1) We basically run on an air-date rule for spoilers. If it comes from an episode that has already aired in the US, then it is not a spoiler.
2) If I am posting a spoiler, then consider the comments for that post spoiler-y and stay away if you don't like spoilers, even ones for other episodes. Spoiler posts are spoiler posts.
3) If it is a non-spoiler post, don't even link spoilers, please! If you are trying to share a link so I will post it, you can either email me at obsessedwithbones[at]gmail[dot]com or find a spoiler post to share it. I get an email for every single comment that is ever posted already and, while I don't always get to read them right away I do read every single one of them so if you post it on something slightly older it will still get noticed.
4) Read. If I say no spoilers in HUGE RED LETTERS it's because it's a problem on the discussion posts and I mean - NO SPOILERS.
5) When in doubt about your comment, reread the post to check, and preface it with a huge SPOILER WARNING line at the top of your post. (It will make it easier to avoid, but also easier for me to find to delete if I must... :) )
Please don't make me start modding comments. I am the only person running this blog and I don't want to stunt the community in that manner. I want everyone, those who love spoilers and those who do not enjoy spoilers at all, to enjoy OWB.

THANK YOU for this, Wendy.

Thanks, Wendy. I appreciate your hard work to keep this place as spoiler-free as possible, as I feel there is no where else I can go to remain spoiler-free about Bones and still get all the current, non-spoiler news. Hopefully people will take more notice of the no spoiler request on the episode discussions because I would also hate for that discussion to be delayed. But if that's what it takes to keep things spoiler-free I do prefer it over the alternative.

Wendy, just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you do on this site. I really, really appreciate OWB -- it's a great place to go for Bones fun without spoilers. You're fighting the good fight. I don't think I've ever gotten spoiled from OWB, and I'm so grateful. (That could be because I almost never read any of the comments -- I'm just here to see what YOU'RE posting. :)) Thanks and love!

Thank you very much Wendy! I am one of those who does not care for spoilers too much, sure I like the occasional small one but not to the extent of sides or anything like that. I really appreciate how you run this site and never think your work is taken for granted! :D

just a warning. i like to use tv.com to get episode info. i was a little shocked at the detail of some of the episode summaries in the main season 5 page. i would advise spoilerphobes to not go there. i sure wish i hadn't :(

(and, of course, thanks wendy!)
